First Foal A Colt For WinStar Farm’s Independence Hall

MGSW & GISP Independence Hall (Constitution) sired his first reported foal when a colt out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Seascape was born Monday, Jan. 16 at Mahoney Eden Manor Farm in New York. The colt was bred by Mahoney Eden Manor, Dark Horse Racing Stable and Cutair Racing.

“He's a very leggy, racy-looking colt, just what you imagine when you look at Independence Hall,” said Britt Wadsworth. “If they come out looking as such, we're all in good shape.”

From the first crop of leading sire Constitution, Independence Hall, who bred 202 mares in his initial book, was a stakes winner at ages two, three, and four and banked $881,500 for owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Robert and Kathleen Verratti, Twin Creeks Racing Stables and WinStar Farm. He currently stands at WinStar Farm for $10,000 S&N.

Flightline Leads TCA Stallion Season Auction Roster

The Thoroughbred Charities of America Stallion Season Auction presented by Mt. Brilliant will begin Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. and run through Friday, Jan. 6, with staggered closing times starting at 4:30 p.m. ET. Nearly 200 seasons will be available for online bidding on Equiring.com. Select seasons to Constitution, Flightline, Good Magic, Maxfield (with 2024 breed back), Nashville (with 2024 breed back), Not This Time, Nyquist (with 2024 breed back), Olympiad, and Quality Road will be sold at the 'Tis the Seasons Celebration on Sunday, January 8 at the Grand Reserve in Lexington, Ky. Tickets can be purchased here.

“This is a spectacular list of seasons,” said Mike McMahon president of TCA. “It's going to be one of the most exciting auctions we have ever held.”

Bidders or their authorized agents may bid on select seasons by attending the event in-person or they may email ehalliwell@tca.org to register to bid online or by phone. Non-season items including a John Deere ZTrak mower, an eighth pole from Keeneland Race Course, a meet and greet with Flightline, a condo in St. Thomas, and week-long stay at a Florida beach house will also be offered in the live auction.

Additionally, an online silent auction of non-season items including halters worn by Tapit, Gun Runner, and Jack Christopher, a Florida Derby package, artwork, unique experiences, and more will be offered. A list of silent auction items is available here.

Maggi Moss will be honored with the Allaire du Pont Leadership Award and Second Stride will be honored with the Ellen and Herb Moelis Industry Service Award for their dedication to Thoroughbred aftercare.

NYTB Stallion Season Auction Returns in Late Jan.

New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB) will conduct its annual Stallion Season Auction from Friday, Jan. 27 to Tuesday, Jan. 31 on www.Wanamakers.com.

The auction raises funds that allow the NYTB to carry on its two-fold mission of promoting New York breeding and racing and protecting the welfare of industry stakeholders.

Attracting donated seasons from farms in the Empire State and Kentucky, the auction has included McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, Sequel New York, Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions, Rockridge Stud, Darley, WinStar Farm, Darby Dan Farm, and Gainesway Farm.

“The benefit of our annual stallion season auction is that it allows participants to find great value on stallions from leading farms in New York, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and elsewhere while helping our mission to protect and enhance the incentives and awards that have made the New York-bred program the strongest regional breeding program in the country,” said New York Thoroughbred Breeders Executive Director Najja Thompson.

New York-bred program stakeholders receive more than $60 million distributed in purse money, incentives, and awards for New York-breds who compete in more than 600 New York-bred races run annually on the New York Racing Association circuit and Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack.

Additionally, there are specific enhanced programs targeted for New York-Sired New York-breds, including the $2.3 million 10-race New York Stallion Stakes Series and the New York-sired owner's bonus programs on the New York Racing Association circuit.
