Monmouth Sports Book To Open At 25 Percent Capacity Friday

Monmouth Park's opening day today will feature a six-race twilight card, simulcast wagering and sports betting at the William Hill Sports Book, with attendance limited under guidelines from Gov. Phil Murphy as part of the restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Monmouth Park's attendance allowance will be driven by direction from the Governor's Office, the Division of Gaming Enforcement and the New Jersey Racing Commission.

All patrons entering the track will be required to wear masks and will be given a brief health questionnaire. No outside food or beverages are permitted.

Post time for the first race for the track's 75th season is 5 p.m. Post times on Saturdays and Sundays will be 12:50 p.m. except for Haskell Day on July 18.

Parking and admission are free except for Haskell Day.

Attendees will be spread throughout the expansive facility to promote social distancing and other protocols that can be found at www.monmouthpark.com.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement has approved 25 percent attendance of listed capacity in the William Hill Sports Book area.

Under Executive Order references from the Governor's Office, no more than 500 people gathering will be permitted in certain areas. With indoor dining prohibited throughout the state, all inside dining may now be counted as outside dining in attendance totals.

Shore Thing: Monmouth Opens Friday With Limited Crowd Size, COVID-19 Protocols

In accordance with new state restrictions, Monmouth Park will tentatively be limited on crowd size for live racing days starting with opening day on Friday, July 3, when post time for the six-race twilight card will be 5 p.m.

The restrictions on crowd size are part of the ongoing COVID-19 guidelines and the exact numbers are pending final guidance from state officials.

“We will continue to operate under the protocols mandated by the Governor's office,” said Dennis Drazin, chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, operators of the racetrack. “We're happy and grateful that we'll get to kick off our 75th season of racing tomorrow and look forward to fuller capacities when permitted.”

Outside dining at the racetrack will be utilized to the fullest extent possible, under state guidelines, as will the William Hill Sports Book, which will be permitted to open at 25 percent capacity.

Gates open for simulcasting, live racing and the Sports Book at 11 a.m.

Admission and parking are free all season except for Haskell Day on July 18.

Monmouth Park, William Hill Sports Book Will Reopen To Fans On July 2

Monmouth Park will re-open for simulcast wagering and sports betting at the William Hill Sports Book on Thursday, July 2, after Gov. Phil Murphy gave approval for the track to do so on Monday as part of state's Stage 2 loosening of restrictions to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Monmouth Park, which opens for its 75th season of live racing on Friday, July 3, will be permitted to operate at 25 percent capacity starting July 2. Additional details are forthcoming.

Monmouth Park has been closed to fans since March 16, when restrictions were put into place to slow the spread of the virus.

“We're grateful for Gov. Murphy's leadership throughout this pandemic and look forward to getting back to some semblance of business as usual in these times of a new normal,” said Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, operators of the racetrack. “We know our fans are as eager to return to Monmouth Park as we are to have them back.”

The 37-day live Monmouth Park meet will run from Friday, July 3, through Sunday, Sept. 27. Post time on Fridays will be 5 p.m. (except for Sept. 4 when it will be 12:50 p.m.). Saturday and Sunday post times will be 12:50 p.m., except Haskell Day on July 18, when the first race goes at noon.
