Fairytale Continues For Shamardal’s Undefeated Cinderella’s Dream In Jumeirah Fillies’ Classic

3rd-Meydan, AED500,000, Cond., 2-2, NH & SH 3yo, f, 1400mT, 1:23.27, gd.
Godolphin's CINDERELLA'S DREAM (GB) (f, 3, Shamardal–Espadrille {GB}, by Dubawi {Ire}) made it three on the bounce with a fine closing effort in the Jumeirah Fillies' Classic Presented By Lincoln Aviator. She defeated stablemate Beautiful Love (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) by 2 3/4 lengths and won without being extended. The final time for the 1400m over the good turf was 1:23.27. Rated near the rear of the field for much of the race, the filly was wound up by William Buick and steered farther out into the course for the stretch drive. Once a gap appearance, she glided right by her rivals, including the stretch leader Frost At Dawn (Frosted). Beautiful Love also found more to take second, but was never catching the winner. Frost At Dawn was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third. “She was there for me the whole way,” said Buick. “She's still learning on the job as she'd only had two previous starts. It was a good performance from a filly who I think is progressive. Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) won this last year and went on to win the [G1 QIPCO 1000] Guineas, so she's in good company and I wouldn't want to rule anything out.” A winner of her maiden on debut at Lingfield last May, the bay triumphed at Thirsk over 1500 metres in September. The second foal for her two-time winning dam, Cinderella's Dream's latest half-sibling is a 2-year-old filly by Farhh (GB). Picked up by Godolphin for 800,000gns as a weanling during the 2015 Tattersalls December Foal Sale, Espadrille Is a daughter of High Heeled (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), who won the G3 St. Simon S. and placed third in both the G1 Oaks and G1 Coronation Cup. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0, AED339,166. Click for the ERA chart and video.

Godolphin Exacta In Cape Verdi, As Silver Lady The Latest Stakes Winner For Sea The Stars

It was a stirring game of jockeyship, as Mickael Barzalona and SILVER LADY (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}–Lumiere {GB}, by Shamardal) fended off the finishing rush of William Buick and English Rose (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) to win by a measured neck in the AED850,000 G2 Cape Verdi Presented by DP World CGG at Meydan on Friday. The Godolphin runners are both trained by Charlie Appleby. The duo had closed on stablemate Shining Jewel (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) who had set the pace for much of the race until midstretch.

Just off the leaders and tossing her head leaving the stalls, the bay eventually relaxed as Shining Jewel showed the way. Well covered up heading into the turn, positions were largely unchanged on the bend, and Mickael Barzalona cued his charge just before the quarter-pole. She promptly collared Shining Jewel to take the advantage. Meanwhile, the formerly undefeated English Rose was winding up with her run to the subsequent winner's outside, and gave every appearance of edging past, but her greenness told late, as Silver Lady proved game to the line.

“She's got a mind of her own, a bit of temperament,” said Barzalona of Silver Lady. “I took her down steady and she settled well during the race–it was rough the first part–but then she took a big breath and picked up well.”

A winner of a Newmarket maiden when unveiled last April, Silver Lady was promptly third in the Listed Michael Seely Memorial Fillies' S. in May. Given some time off, she returned to take sixth in another listed race at HQ in September and failed to menace when unplaced in the G3 Pride S. there in October, her final appearance prior to Friday's triumph.

Pedigree Notes

The 4-year-old is the 116th stakes winner and 70th Pattern winner for her sire, who stands at Gilltown Stud in Ireland under the banner of The Aga Khan Studs. The much-missed Shamardal now has 102 stakes winners and 52 group winners as a broodmare sire. The cross is also responsible for three other stakes winners led by four-time Group 3 winner Al Aasy (Ire).

Lumiere (GB) claimed the G1 Cheveley Park S. and was also placed in the G2 Lowther S., G2 Challenge S. and G3 Sceptre S. throughout her career. She hit black-type pay dirt with her first foal, the G3 Darley S. winner Highland Avenue (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), and Silver Lady is her second group winner. She has a full-sister to Highland Avenue named Dazzling Jewel who just turned three, a juvenile filly by Siyouni (Fr) and a yearling colt by Dubawi still to come.

Lumiere is a full-sister to GI E. P. Taylor S. heroine Sheikha Reika (Fr) (Shamardal), herself the dam of the stakes-placed Arabic Legend (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Sea The Stars Colt Overcomes Wide Draw In Jumeirah Guineas Trial

5th-Meydan, AED300,000, Cond., 1-5, NH & SH 3yo, 1400mT, 1:23.14, gd.
LEGEND OF TIME (GB) (c, 3, Sea The Stars {Ire}–Kissable {Ire} {G1SP-Ire, SW & GSP-US, $225,919}, by Danehill Dancer {Ire}) won a 7 1/2-furlong race at Haydock when unveiled in September, and plugged on to be fifth after a hampered passage in the G3 Tattersalls S. at Newmarket on Sept. 28. One of the leading fancies despite a horror draw in gate 14 of 16 in the full field for the Jumeirah Guineas Trial, he punched the breeze out wide as Athan (Arg) (Orpen) showed the way. Already only three deep as the field hit the turn, he maintained position in fourth approaching the lane. Given his cue by Buick, he soon let down past Saeed bin Suroor's Movie Maker (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), Athan, and the rallying Shamrock Glitter (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}), who raced against the rail. The last name made a race of it inside the final 100 metres, but Legend Of Time, despite covering all of that extra real estate, was going best of the pair to win by a length and give Buick his third win on the card and trainer Charlie Appleby his second. Athan was another 1 3/4 lengths back, two lengths in front of Movie Maker. “I was very happy with him,” said Buick. “We did expect him to win but the pace wasn't overly strong and he jumped well and had to cover ground. He's a very progressive horse and will be better over a mile.” Best known for finishing third in the G1 Moyglare Stud S., the stakes-winning Kissable has already thrown stakes winner and GI American Oaks third Amandine (GB) (Shamardal) and Loving Dream (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who has both the G1 Prix de Royallieu and G2 Ribblesdale S. to her name. Since foaling Legend Of Time, Kissable has a 2-year-old colt by first-season sire Pinatubo (Ire) and a yearling filly by Night Of Thunder (Ire). Second dam Kitty O'Shea (GB) (Sadler's Wells) was one of four stakes winners oftlinefoaled by G3 Park Hill S. heroine Eva Luna (Alleged), whose best was G1 St Leger and G1 Racing Post Trophy victor-turned-sire Brian Boru (GB) (Sadler's Wells). Derby winner Workforce (GB) (King's Best), as well as Kodiac (GB) full-brothers Best Solution (Ire) and El Bodegon (Ire) are all Group 1 winners from this line, while Workforce's half-brother Emissary (GB) (Kingman {GB}) ran second in the G1 Melbourne Cup. Dubawi’s Ancient Wisdom Wins The Futurity Trophy

After a 15-minute delay caused by Ballydoyle's Battle Cry (Ire) (No Nay Never) turning over in the stalls, Godolphin's Ancient Wisdom (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}–Golden Valentine {Fr}, by Dalakhani {Ire}) proved the most effective on Doncaster's deep ground to justify 5-4 favouritism under William Buick in Saturday's G1 Kameko Futurity Trophy. Back in action a fortnight after winning Newmarket's G3 Autumn S., the Charlie Appleby trainee was left in front initially and looked beaten for a few strides as the pack closed in two out. Regaining momentum to ultimately outstay his rivals with his pounding stride, the TDN Rising Star who was the second-highest-priced lot at the 2022 Arqana Deauville August Sale had 1 3/4 lengths to spare over Devil's Point (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) at the line, with God's Window (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) a head away in third.
