Pennsylvania-Bred Gun Runner Colt Tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings sale concluded Tuesday with figures on par with the 2019 renewal, with eight of the top 10 prices paid for yearlings bred in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York.

Hip 371, a colt from the first crop of Pegasus World Cup winner Gun Runner, sold for $270,000 during Tuesday's session to top the sale (video).

The chestnut colt was purchased by Lambe Bloodstock from the consignment of Becky Davis, agent. Hip 371 out of Stormy Tak, a daughter of multiple Grade 1 winner and millionaire Lady Tak, making her a half-sister to Melody Lady, dam of this year's Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt winner Volatile. The sale topper was bred in Pennsylvania by Jon A. Marshall.

A pair of Maryland-bred colts sold for more than $200,000 during the second session to account for the sale's second- and third-highest prices. The first of these was Hip 451, a son of Flatter which sold for $250,000 to Bell Gable Stable from the consignment of Northview Stallion Station (David Wade), agent (video).

The dark bay or brown colt is out of Apple Cider, a More Than Ready daughter of Grade 2 winner Who Did It and Run, and half-sister to stakes winners Giant Run and American Victory. Hip 451 was bred in Maryland by Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds.

The third-highest price of the sale was paid for Hip 383, a son of Street Sense sold for $240,000 to West Bloodstock, agent for Repole and St. Elias Stables from the consignment of Chanceland Farm, agent (video). The bay colt is out of the Polish Numbers mare Tanca, who has seven winners from as many to race, including stakes winners Cordmaker, Las Setas, and Corvus. Hip 383 was bred in Maryland by Robert T. Manfuso and Kathryn M. Voss.

The sale's top filly was a daughter of Malibu Moon sold for $140,000 during Tuesday's session (video). Offered as Hip 541, the filly was purchased by Charles J. Zacney from the consignment of Candyland, agent. The bay filly is out of the unraced Street Cry mare Fire of Freedom, who has produced four winners to date, including multiple stakes placed Travel Advisory. Fire of Freedom is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Flat Fleet Feet. The top filly was bred in Maryland by Candyland Farm.

All told, 379 yearlings sold for a total of $9,161,200. The average was $24,172 and the median was $14,000; both figures were nearly identical to last year's results. The RNA rate was 21 percent, also on par with 2019 results.

Distorted Humor Colt Tops OBS July Sale Finale

Hip No. 1027, a son of Distorted Humor consigned by McKathan Bros. Sales, Agent, went to West Bloodstock, Agent for Robert E. & Lawana Low for $700,000 to top the final session as well as the entire Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age.

The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at Sunday's under tack session, is out of Tizacity, by Tizway, a daughter of stakes winner Vindy City.

Hip No. 724, a son of Malibu Moon consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Carolyn Wilson for $260,000. The bay colt, who worked an under tack quarter in :21 1/5 on Friday, is a half-brother to graded stakes winner Keen Pauline out of Grand Pauline, by Two Punch.
Hip No. 983, a son of Laoban consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent, who sped the Sunday under tack session's fastest eighth in :9 4/5, went to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $255,000. The bay colt is out of One Look, by Henny Hughes, a half-sister to graded stakes placed Before You Know It.

Oracle Bloodstock, Agent for Amanda Butler went to $230,000 for Hip No. 783, Faithful Soldier, a son of Not This Time who turned in an under tack quarter in :21 2/5 on Friday. Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, the dark bay or brown colt is out of Impetuous Youth, by Candy Ride (ARG), a daughter of Grade 1 winner I Believe in You.
Hip No. 859, a daughter of Anchor Down consigned by Julie Davies LLC, Agent, was sold to Down Neck Stables LLC for $200,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth on Friday in :10 flat, is a half-sister to graded stakes placed current 3-year-old OBS graduate Dream Marie, second in the recent Delaware Oaks (G3), out of Lin Marie, by Curlin, a daughter of stakes winner Coy Cat.

For the session, 179 2-year-olds sold for a total of $6,396,700, compared with 186 grossing $7,510,100 at last year's third session. The average was $35,736, compared with $40,377 a year ago, while the median price was $15,000, compared to $17,000 in 2019. The buyback percentage was 18.3 percent; it was 15.8 percent last year.

Four older horses sold for $42,000 compared to nine bringing $69,200 in 2019.

For the entire sale, 517 2-year-olds sold for $15,830,800 compared with 615 horses grossing $21,349,300 a year ago. The average was $30,621, compared to $34,714 a year while the median price was $13,000 compared with $17,000 in 2019. The buyback percentage was 20.5 percent; it was 18.7 percent last year.

Next on the OBS agenda is the October Sale, set for Oct. 13 through Oct. 15, featuring Yearlings, 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.

Not This Time Filly Tops OBS July Sale’s Second Session

Hip No. 640, a daughter of Not This Time consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Emerald Sales, Agent for Tobey L. Morton, for $270,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age.

The chestnut filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the fastest at the distance at Thursday's under tack session, is out of Exotic Design, by A.P. Indy, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Exotic Wood and a full sister to stakes winner Key to Power.

Dennis O'Neill paid $185,000 for Hip No. 383, a son of Half Ours consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent, whose quarter in :20 1/5 on Wednesday was the sale's fastest at the distance. The bay colt is out of All About Ju Ju, by Into Mischief, a half-sister to stakes placed Gregorian Bay.

Hip No. 473, a daughter of Palace Malice consigned by Hoppel's Horse & Cattle Co., Inc, was sold to Clay Scherer, Agent for Al & Bill Ulwelling, for $175,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance on Wednesday, is a half-sister to stakes placed Merveilleux out of Breech Inlet, by Holy Bull, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Bauble Queen.
Hip No. 427, a daughter of Uncle Mo consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, who breezed three-eighths in :34 2/5 on Wednesday, was purchased by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, for $150,000. The bay filly is out of Bama Belle, by Giant's Causeway, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Funny Moon.
West Bloodstock, Agent for Repole Stables, paid $110,000 for Hip No. 643, Amount, a son of Curlin who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 on Thursday. Consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, the chestnut colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Size out of Extent, by Pulpit.

For the session, 155 horses sold for a total of $3,869,800, compared with 225 grossing $7,719,700 at last year's second session. The average was $24,966 compared with $34,310 a year ago, while the median price was $13,000, compared to $17,500 in 2019. The buyback percentage was 25.7 percent; it was 17.3 percent last year.

The July Sale continues Thursday at 10 a.m. Hip No.'s 721 – 1114 will be offered.

$1.25-Million Quality Road Colt Tops OBS Spring Sale’s Final Session

Hip No. 1018, a son of Quality Road consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc., (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Ben McElroy, Agent for Arman Shah, for $1.25 million to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

The bay colt, who breezed a quarter in :20 3/5 at Friday's under tack session, is a half-brother to graded stakes-placed stakes winner Standard Deviation out of False Impression, by A.P. Indy.

Hip No. 1312, Fortunate Son, a son of Speightster consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, was purchased by OXO Equine LLC for $1.1 million. The chestnut colt, who breezed a quarter on Saturday in :20 4/5, is out of stakes-placed Auspicious, by Indian Charlie, a half-sister to graded stakes-placed Flatter Than Me.
Hip No. 1298, a son of California Chrome consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to West Bloodstock for Repole Stable Inc./St. Elias Stable for $725,000. The gray or roan colt, who turned in an under tack quarter on Friday in :20 3/5, is out of Diva Style, by Unbridled's Song, a half-sister to classic contender Tiz the Law.

Hip No. 1299, a daughter of Liam's Map consigned by Cary Frommer LLC, Agent, who worked Friday's fastest eighth in :9 4/5, was sold to Rigney Racing LLC for $700,000. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Ebony Moment, by Smart Strike, a daughter of graded stakes winner Ebony Breeze.
Hip No. 953, a son of Not This Time consigned by Julie Davies LLC, Agent, was sold to Marc Tacher for $575,000. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Friday, is out of Delightful Melody, by Tapit, a daughter of graded stakes winner Bending Strings.
Hip No. 982, a son of Shackleford consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Justin Casse, Agent, for $550,000. The chestnut colt, who sped a quarter in :20 3/5 on Friday, is a half-brother to champion Monomoy Girl and current 3-year-old graded stakes winner Mr. Monomoy out of Drumette, by Henny Hughes.
Hip No. 1175, a son of Kantharos who breezed an under tack eighth in :10 flat on Saturday, was sold to Frank Fletcher Racing Operations for $500,000. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, the chestnut colt is out of Illicit Affair, by Midnight Lute, a daughter of champion Silverbulletday.
Summer Wind Equine paid $500,000 for Hip No. 1310, a daughter of Malibu Moon whose quarter in :20 3/5 was co-fastest at the distance on Saturday. The bay filly, consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, is out of stakes placed Iroquois Girl, by Indian Charlie, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Salty Strike.
Joseph Brocklebank, Agent, went to $475,000 for Hip No. 1060, a daughter of Empire Maker consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Saturday, is out of Full Tap, by Tapit, a daughter of stakes winner Miss Challenge.
Hip No. 1149, a son of Hard Spun consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was purchased for $400,000 by Belladonna Racing II, LLC. The dark bay or brown filly, who turned in an under tack eighth on Saturday in :10 flat, is out of High Wire Act, by Medallist, a half-sister to graded stakes-placed stakes winner Not Abroad.
Hip No. 1314, a son of Flatter also consigned by Tom McCrocklin, was sold for $400,000 to J. A. S. The bay colt, who turned in a quarter in :20 4/5 on Saturday, is a full-brother to graded stakes-winning OBS graduate Favorable Outcome out of stakes winner Shananies Song, by Eltish.

For the day, 161 horses brought a total of $18,514,500 compared with 155 selling for a total of $16,728,000 last year. The average price was $114,997, up 6.5 percent compared to $107,923 in 2019, while the median price was $50,000, identical to last year's figure. The buyback percentage was 15.7 percent; it was 22.5 percent in 2019.

For the entire sale, 635 horses sold for a total of $58,905,000 compared with 674 horses bringing a sale record $72,945,000 in 2019. The average price was $92,764, compared with 2019's sale record $108,227. The median was $50,000 compared with last year's record $60,000. The buyback percentage was 18.4 percent; it was 19.8 percent a year ago.

The overall sale-topper was Hip No. 1254, a daughter of Not This Time consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, sold to Gary Young for $1.35 million to top the sale's second session. The bay filly, whose quarter in :20 1/5 was the sale's fastest at the distance, is out of graded stakes winner Sheza Smoke Show, by Wilko, a daughter of stakes winner Avery Hall.

Next on the OBS agenda is the July Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age, rescheduled from its June dates and now set for July 14 -16. The under tack show is scheduled for July 6 -11.
