Trifecta Of Magical World, Shedaresthedevil, Swiss Skydiver Drive More Than $100 Million In Sales At Fasig-Tipton November

The Fasig-Tipton November Sale, marketed as the world's premier breeding stock event, proved worthy of the marquee Tuesday in Lexington, Ky. Fasig-Tipton's flagship breeding stock sale established a new record gross, selling more than $100 million in the single session for the first time in the sale's history, including 26 fillies and mares which sold for $1 million or more.

Grade 1 producer Magical World in foal to multiple leading sire Into Mischief topped the sale when sold for $5.2 million to Whisper Hill Farm and Three Chimneys Farm (video).

Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, offered the 11-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor as Hip 203. Magical World has produced four winners from four to race, including multiple Grade 1 winning millionaire Guarana (Ghostzapper); Grade 2 placed stakes winner Magic Dance (More Than Ready); and current 3-year-old winner Beatbox (Pioneer of the Nile). Magical World is out of Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home, from the immediate family of champion Sky Beauty and Grade 1 winners Violence and Tale of Ekati. Magical World also has a yearling colt by Gun Runner and foaled a colt by Quality Road this year.

“[It was a] remarkable evening tonight,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. “We were so fortunate to have a tremendous group of horses… It was almost impossible to believe the quality of horses on the grounds.”

Record-setting Kentucky Oaks winner Shedaresthedevil topped the racing/broodmare prospects on offer, selling for $5 million to Whisper Hill Farm, Flurry Racing, and Qatar Racing from the consignment of Hunter Valley Farm, agent (video).

Offered as Hip 232, the four-year-old daughter of Daredevil ran the fastest Kentucky Oaks in history, going 9 furlongs in 1:48.28 while defeating champions Swiss Skydiver and Gamine and Grade 1 winner Speech. Shedaresthedevil's seven graded stakes victories also include this year's Grade La Troienne Stakes and G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes. To date, she has earned $2,331,458 under the tutelage of trainer Brad Cox and has won or placed in 15 of 17 career starts.

Eclipse champion Swiss Skydiver was the sale's top broodmare prospect, selling for $4.7 million to Katsumi Yoshida from the consignment of Runnymede Farm, agent (video).

Offered as Hip 246, the 4-year-old daughter of Daredevil won five graded stakes last year en route to champion 3-year-old filly honors, including a victory in the Preakness Stakes over Kentucky Derby winner and subsequent Horse of the Year Authentic. Swiss Skydiver captured the prestigious G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga last year at three and won this year's G1 Beholder Mile Stakes. She won or placed 12 of 16 career starts and earned $2,216,480 for owner Peter Callahan and trainer Kenny McPeek.

“Our friends from Japan have become a major component of this sale,” said Browning when asked about the high level of participation from Japanese buyers. “We live in a global world and we're fortunate that we have a global marketplace here.”

The sale's top weanling was Hip 107, a filly by Curlin out of Grade 1 winner Sippican Harbor, which sold for $750,000 to West Bloodstock, agent for Robert and Lawana Low from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

The chestnut filly is the second foal out of G1 Spinaway Stakes winner Sippican Harbor, from the immediate family of Group 1 winner Peter Davies. Hip 107 was bred in Kentucky by Lee Pokoik.

“We were supported by an unbelievable cross section of horses from an unbelievable cross section of consignors and owners,” added Browning. “That's what it's all about: it's the quality of horses that you have the opportunity to sell, and we were fortunate tonight to have an all-star cast of offers and support (from) a tremendous buying base from all over the world. I couldn't be any more pleased.”

Overall, 149 horses changed hands for a sale-record gross of $103,699,000, a 15.9 percent increase over the previous highwater mark, set in 2018 when 141 horses sold for $89,473,000.

The average rose 23.2 percent to $695,966 from $565,049 in 2020 and was good for second-highest average in sale history. The median was $300,000, up 50 percent from 2020 and good for third-highest median ever recorded at The November Sale. The RNA rate was 21.1 percent. Twenty-six fillies and mares sold for $1 million or more.

Keeneland September Sale Blows Past 2020 Totals With Five Sessions Still To Go

The Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington, Ky., completed its sixth of 11 sessions on Sunday with cumulative sales of $278 million, exceeding total sales of $238 million recorded for last year's entire 12-day auction.

To date, Keeneland has sold 1,169 yearlings through the ring for $278,883,000, for an average of $238,565 and a median of $180,000.

Demand for Thoroughbred racing prospects continued to drive strong results Sunday, the final day of Book 3, when 280 yearlings brought $33,461,000, for an average of $119,504 and a median of $87,500.

First-crop sire City of Light was represented by Sunday's two top-priced yearlings and three of the session's five high sellers.

Topping the session was a colt by City of Light from the family of recent TVG Del Mar Debutante (G1) winner Grace Adler who sold for $700,000 to West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable and St. Elias. Consigned by Farfellow Farms, he is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Hessie's Girl and also from the family of Grade 1 winner Bullsbay and Grade 3 winner Our Khrysty. Our Khrysty is the dam of Grace Adler.

West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable and St. Elias, was the session's leading buyer, acquiring five yearlings for $1,325,000.

Breeze Easy/Tom McGreevy, agent, paid $525,000 for a filly by City of Light who is a half-sister to stakes winner Mizzen Beau. Her dam, the stakes-placed Donna Getyourgun, by Stormy Atlantic, is a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Clearly a Queen. The filly was consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent.

A colt by Violence brought $500,000 from Maverick Racing. Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, consigned the colt, who is out of the winning Congrats mare Tulira's Star and from the family of Grade 3 winner Mountain General.

With sales of $3,557,000 for 29 yearlings, Taylor Made Sales Agency was the session's leading consignor.

BBA Ireland went to $475,000 for a colt by Gun Runner who is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Royal Mo and stakes winner Tara From the Cape. Consigned by Brandywine Farm and Gun Runner Syndicate, he is out of Royal Irish Lass, by Saint Ballado, and from the family of Grade 2 winner Irish Linnet.

City of Light also sired the colt from the family of champion Xtra Heat who sold to Wesley Ward for $460,000. Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent, consigned the colt, whose dam is the Congrats mare Sudden Heat.

The September Sale continues Monday and runs through Friday, Sept. 24. All sessions begin at 10 a.m. ET.

Gun Runner Colt Tops OBS Spring Sale’s Opening Session

Hip No. 118, a son of Gun Runner consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Donato Lanni, Agent for Michael Lund Petersen, for $850,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2021 Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

The gray or roan colt, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Monday's under tack session, is out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Salamera, by Successful Appeal, a half sister to champion Vivaldi Girl.

Hip No. 185, a son of Distorted Humor who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Monday, was sold to Spendthrift Farm LLC / Myracehorse.com for $550,000. The bay colt, consigned by Mayberry Farm, Agent, is out of grade one stakes placed Silverpocketsfull, by Indian Charlie, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Unforgotten.

Maverick Racing / CMNWLTH paid $550,000 for Hip No. 297, a son of Midnight Storm consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed a quarter on Tuesday in :20 4/5, is out of Tasunke, by Indian Charlie, from the family of Grade 1 winner Tap to Music.

Hip No. 44, a daughter of Munnings consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Fawzi Nass for $425,000. The bay filly, who turned in an under tack quarter in :21 flat on Monday, is a half sister to twice-champion and Preakness Stakes winner Lookin At Lucky out of Private Feeling, by Belong to Me.

Hip No. 104, a son of Noble Bird consigned by Ocala Stud, Agent, was sold for $400,000 to West Bloodstock, Agent for Robert E. and Lawana Low. The chestnut colt, who breezed a quarter on Monday in :20 4/5, is out of stakes winner Rosebud's Ridge, by Tiger Ridge, a half sister to the dam of graded stakes winning millionaire OBS graduate C Z's Rocket, winner of the recent Grade 3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap at Oaklawn Park.

Hip No. 262, a son of Twirling Candy consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, was sold to Nicoma Bloodstock / Ben Gowans, Agent for $375,000. The dark bay or brown colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance on Tuesday, is out of Sumlin, by Eskendereya, a daughter of graded stakes placed Visavis.

Solis / Litt went to $360,000 for Hip No. 132, a daughter of Valiant Minister consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who worked a quarter in :20 4/5 at Monday's Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Savingtime, by Kantharos, from the family of champion Blushing Katy,

Hip No. 202, a son of Cairo Prince consigned by Randy Miles, Agent, was purchased by John Ballantyne / N B S Stable for $335,000. The gray or roan colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Smart 'n Special, by Smart Strike, a full sister to Grade 1 winner Shadow Cast.

For the day, 181 horses brought a total of $17,829,500 compared with 154 selling for a total of $13,209,500 at last year's opening session. The average price was $98,506, up 14.9 percent compared to $85,776 in 2020 while the median price was $50,000, compared with $46,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 19.5 percent; it was 19.8 percent last year.

The Spring Sale continues Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Hip No.'s 305 – 608 will be offered for sale.

Three Horses Lead Keeneland November’s Fourth Session At $300,000

Three horses – Quality Heat, Sex Symbol and a weanling colt from the first crop of Mendelssohn – each sold for $300,000 to top results of Thursday's fourth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Keeneland sold 227 horses for $13,153,000 on Thursday, for an average of $57,943 and a median of $42,000.

Cumulatively through four sessions of the 10-day auction, 748 horses grossed $115,681,000, for an average of $154,654 and a median of $90,000.

Bluewater Sales, agent, consigned Quality Heat and Sex Symbol.

Springbord Farm purchased Quality Heat, a stakes-placed 3-year-old filly by Quality Road. Cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect, she is a full sister to Grade 2 winner Frank Conversation and from the family of Grade 1 winners Unusual Suspect and Golden Doc A. Her dam is the stakes-placed Unusual Heat mare Rushen Heat.

Springbord, which also paid $55,000 for a weanling filly by Mastery consigned by Bluewater, was the session's leading buyer, spending $355,000 for two horses.

Green Lantern Stables/Patrick Masson, agent, acquired Sex Symbol, a 3-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo carrying her first foal by City of Light. Out of Grade 1 winner Icon Project, Sex Symbol is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Fashion Business and from the family of Grade 1 winner La Gueriere and Grade 2 winners and sires Lasting Approval and Munnings.

The $300,000 Mendelssohn weanling sold to Larry Best's OXO Equine. Four Star Sales, agent, consigned the colt, who is out of Abuntia, by Olmodavor. He is from the family of champion Susan's Girl, multiple Grade 1 winner Copelan and multiple Grade 2 winner St. Joe Bay.

Spanish Star, a 6-year-old daughter of Blame who is a half-sister to Belmont Stakes winner Sir Winston and is in foal to Arrogate, brought the day's second-highest price of $275,000 from Crestwood Farm, agent. Consigned by Woods Edge Farm, agent, she is out of Grade 3 winner La Gran Bailadora and from the family of Canadian champion Woolloomooloo.

West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stables, paid $270,000 for Bambalina, a 4-year-old daughter of Bernardini and champion Perfect Sting. She is carrying her first foal by Street Sense. Consigned by Hidden Brook, agent, Bambalina is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Smart Sting.

The session's leading consignor was Lane's End, agent, which sold 35 horses for $2,113,000.
