Explainer: Having violated the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Rule #2280 (Use of Riding Crop) and pursuant to Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Rule #2282 (Riding Crop Violations and Penalties–Class 3), Jockey Diego Herrera, who rode Wizard of Westwood in the seventh race at Los Alamitos Race Course on July 3, 2022, is suspended for ONE (1) day (July 22, 2022),and fined $250.00 for one (1) strike over the limit. Furthermore, Jockey Diego Herrera is assigned three (3) violation points that will be expunged on January 4, 2023, six (6) months from the date of final adjudication pursuant to Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Rule #2282 (Riding Crop Violations and Penalties).

Explainer: Having violated the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Rule #2280 (Use of Riding Crop) and pursuant to Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority Rule #2282 (Riding Crop Violations and Penalties– Class 3), Apprentice Jockey Ricardo Ramirez, who rode It's My House in the eighth race at Los Alamitos Race Course on July 3, 2022, is suspended for ONE (1) day (July 22, 2022), and fined $250.00 for one (1) strike over the limit. Explainer: Pursuant to a Stipulated Agreement and Mutual Release with the California Horse Racing Board, Trainer, Stable Agent and Owner Peter Miller, is suspended for 7 days (June 6, 2022, through June 12, 2022) and fined $10,000.00 for violation of California Horse Racing Board rule #1502 (Program Training Prohibited) which occurred from December 23, 2021, through March 24, 2022, at San Luis Rey Training Center.

Explainer: Mr. Frank Gabriel is hereby fined the sum of $4,000 for failing to follow proper claiming protocol of horse Battalion. Battilion was claimed out of the 4th race on May 28th 2022. The claim of Battalion was void due to this action.

Reyluis Gutierrez is hereby fined $500 for his improper use of the riding crop by exceeding the allowable use in the overhand manner.

Explainer: Jockey Drayden Van Dyke, who rode Disco Ball in the third race at Santa Anita Park on Feb. 5, 2022, is suspended for three racing days (Feb. 13, 18 and 19, 2022) for failure to make the proper effort to maintain a straight course in the stretch, causing interference which resulted in the disqualification of his mount from first to second. This constitutes a violation of California Horse Racing Board rule #1699 (Riding Rules–Careless Riding). Pursuant to California Horse Racing Board rule #1766 (Designated Races), the term of suspension shall not prohibit participation in designated races.

Florida

The following rulings were reported on the ARCI's “Recent Rulings” webpage. All but one of the rulings, however, show “no penalty” for the medication violations. According to a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the rulings that indicate “no penalty” are from samples collected prior to May 20, 2021, when the Division adopted new testing procedures on the back of litigation.
“As a result of litigation, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering developed and adopted new administrative rules regarding testing methodologies, measurement uncertainties, and screening limits for racehorses. These new requirements have been in effect since May 20, 2021,” the spokesperson wrote.
“Cases involving samples collected prior to that date were resolved pursuant to negotiated agreements between the Division and trainers. Relying on these new requirements, the
Division continues to help protect the safety and welfare of racehorses and the integrity of the races themselves,” the spokesperson added.
