Weekend Lineup Presented By Fall Festival Of Racing At Laurel Park: Stakes Aplenty

The holiday weekend's Thoroughbred action is highlighted by the final live racing dates of the year at Churchill Downs, featuring the Grade 1 Clark, and at Del Mar, featuring both the G1 Hollywood Derby and G1 Matriarch, as well as the opening weekends at both the Fair Grounds and Tampa Bay Downs. At Laurel Park, the Fall Festival of Racing is offering six stakes on a nine-race Saturday program that gets under way at 12:25 p.m. ET.

Friday, Nov. 27

5:27 p.m. – $500,000 G1 Clark at Churchill Downs

W.S. Farish's multiple G1 winner Code of Honor will take on 13 rivals including graded stakes winners By My Standards, Mr Freeze and Owendale in the 146th renewal of the $500,000 Clark presented by Norton Healthcare (G1) – the marquee race of the Fall Meet at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

6:30 p.m. – $200,000 G2 Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar

A wide-open edition of the Hollywood Turf Cup – a handicapping delight for those who like the challenge of a well-matched and highly competitive field – will be the day-after Thanksgiving treat this Friday at Del Mar. A trio of out-of-towners add special spice to the handicapping stew – Donegal Racing, Bulger and Coneway's Arklow, Manfred Ostermann's Laccario and Agave Racing Stable or Sam-Son Farm's Say the Word. They'll all be making their Del Mar debuts. The race also has drawn its defending champion – Messineo or Sands' Oscar Dominguez, who rallied through the lane to win by a neck over turf star United in last year's running. It additionally has lured back a pair of runners who have been there before – Mr. & Mrs. Larry Williams' Ward 'n Jerry, third in the Turf Cup last year, and Little Red Feather and Tavares' Marckie's Water, fourth in the 2018 edition of the race.

4:57 p.m. – $200,000 G2 Golden Rod Stakes at Churchill Downs

Harold Lerner LLC, Magdalena Racing and Nehoc Stables' Alcibiades (G1) winner Simply Ravishing will lead a field of 10 promising juvenile fillies in Saturday's Golden Rod. Among the other rivals to Simply Ravishing in the Golden Rod is Kueber Racing's undefeated $98,000 Rags to Riches winner Coach. Trained by Brad Cox, Coach is a perfect 3-for-3 in her young career. She'll be joined in the starting gate by stablemate Travel Column. Owned by OXO Equine, Travel Column dazzled on debut by 4 ¼ lengths and returned with a third-place effort behind Simply Ravishing in the Alcibiades.

5:56 p.m. – $200,000 G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs

Cypress Creek and Arnold Bennewith's Breeders' Cup Juvenile third-place finisher Keepmeinmind will be in search of his first-career victory against a competitive field of nine 2-year-olds, which includes stakes winners King Fury and Sittin On Go, in Saturday's 94th running of the Kentucky Jockey Club.

6:27 p.m. – $200,000 G2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar

The Seabiscuit Handicap this Saturday at Del Mar brings together a big field of 13 turf horses from around North America in what should be an extraordinary race to watch and to wager on. Leading the field in career earnings at $1.8 million is Next Shares, who posted the 27 to 1 upset winning the 2019 Seabiscuit but who is winless this year in six races. Close at hand in terms of career accomplishments is Bowies Hero, who has earned more than $1.5 million with his last big win coming in the 2019 Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile. Next is My Boy Jack, who has banked more than three-quarters of a million. Starting his career on dirt, My Boy Jack was a top 3-year-old in 2018, including a fifth place effort in the Kentucky Derby before going on the sidelines in the fall of 2019 and making his return to the races in this race. Flavius appears to be a strong contender as well, having won the Tourist Mile Stakes this past summer before a troubled effort in the Shadwell Turf Mile.

7:27 p.m. – $300,000 G1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar

A field of 13 3-year-olds of both quality and quantity was entered the 79th running of the Hollywood Derby at Del Mar. Among the group were five shippers from East Coast-based trainers with two from Christophe Clement and one each from Chad Brown, George Weaver and Thomas M. Bush. Clement is sending out Decorated Invader, a winner of the G2 Pennine Ridge Stakes at Belmont Park and the G2 Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga last summer and Gufo, a winner as the favorite of the Belmont Derby on Oct. 3. Brown is dispatching Domestic Spending, a winner of the Saratoga Derby Invitational in August by a head over Gufo; Weaver will be represented by Ever Dangerous, fresh from a win in a $150,000 stakes at Keeneland on Nov. 6, and Bush sends Get Smokin, a wire-to-winner of the G2 Hill Prince on a yielding Belmont turf on Oct. 18.

7:00 p.m. – $300,000 G1 Matriarch at Del Mar

A field of nine, one-third from the stable of mega-trainer Chad Brown, was entered today for Sunday's G1 Matriarch Stakes, the signature event of the final day of the Bing Crosby Season. Brown's trio of shippers from New York is comprised of graded stakes winners Tamahere and Viadera and graded stakes-placed Blowout.

Weekend Lineup: Five Graded Stakes On Tap At Woodbine

Throughout the year, the NTRA will provide a guide to the best stakes races in North America and beyond. Races are listed in chronological order (all times Eastern). Full previews when available can be found through the link for each race.

Woodbine plays host to five graded stakes this weekend highlighted by Canadian Triple Crown standouts Mighty Heart and Belichick meeting again in the $125,000 Ontario Derby Stakes.

Racing from Aqueduct and Churchill Downs is televised on “America's Day at the Races.” The NYRA-produced show runs through Sunday this week on FS1 and FS2.

Racing from Del Mar and other tracks will be shown on TVG as part of its coast-to-coast coverage.

Saturday November 21

3:45 p.m.—$100,000 Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct on FS2

Woodslane Farm's Sadler's Joy will face fellow 7-year-old Grade 1 winner Aquaphobia in pursuit of a second straight triumph in the 60th running of the Red Smith Handicap going 1 3/8 miles over the inner turf. Trained by Tom Albertrani, Sadler's Joy has amassed the highest amount of lifetime earnings in the field with $2,648,160 through a record of 33-7-4-11 consisting of four graded stakes triumphs. The veteran son of Kitten's Joy notched graded wins during his 4, 5 and 6-year-old campaigns. In addition to last year's Red Smith, Sadler's Joy boasts triumphs in the G1 Sword Dancer Invitational in August 2017 at Saratoga and Gulfstream Park's G2 Pan American in April 2017 and the G2 Mac Diarmida in March 2018.

4 p.m.—$100,000 Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes at Del Mar on TVG

C R K Stable's Midcourt, the defending champion in Saturday's $100,000 Native Diver Stakes, looms as the one to catch and the one to beat in the 42nd edition of the nine-panel headliner. Midcourt, a gelded 5-year-old by Midnight Lute, has won five of his 14 starts, including his five and three-quarter length triumph in last year's Native Diver. The John Shirreffs-trained runner – a winner of $546,695 in purses — has been handled by Victor Espinoza in most of his career starts and will have the Hall of Fame rider in the tack again Saturday.

4:58 p.m.—$125,000 Grade 3 Ontario Derby at Woodbine on TVG

Queen's Plate and Prince of Wales Stakes winner Mighty Heart will meet up with stablemate and Breeders' Stakes victor Belichick in the Ontario Derby, set for 1 1/8 miles on the Woodbine Tapeta. After Mighty Heart took the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown series, Belichick turned the tables on the bay colt in the 1 ½-mile Breeders' Stakes on Oct. 24, putting an end to Mighty Heart's quest to become the country's first horse to sweep all three races since Wando achieved the feat in 2003. The Ontario Derby, for 3-year-olds, will mark the first race for both since the Breeders'.

5:06 p.m.—$100,000 Grade 3 Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs on FS2

Multiple graded stakes winner Finite tops the 35th running of the Chilukki Stakes run at one mile. Finite, a 3-year-old filly by Munnings, was the narrow runner-up finisher behind Venetian Harbor in last month's G2 Raven Run at Keeneland. Previously, the Steve Asmussen-trained Finite was on the Kentucky Oaks trail after victories in the G2 Golden Rod and G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes. Following her fourth-place effort in the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks, Finite underwent minor ankle surgery but returned to Asmussen's stable a few months later.

5:28 p.m.—$175,000 Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes at Woodbine on TVG

Multiple stakes winner and 2017 Canadian Horse of the Year, Pink Lloyd, looks to add to his black-type bonanza with a win in the Kennedy Road Stakes. Pink Lloyd will seek to top the Kennedy Road charts for the third time, having won the event in 2017 and 2019. Trained by Robert Tiller for Entourage Stable, the 8-year-old gelded son of Old Forester is unbeaten in four starts – all stakes – this year. His latest tour de force was a victory in the Gr3 Vigil Stakes on Sept. 5, an effort that pushed Pink Lloyd's career earnings over $2 million (CDN). It was also his fourth straight Vigil Crown.

5:58 p.m.—$175,000 Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes at Woodbine on TVG

The $175,000 Bessarabian Stakes for fillies and mares contested at seven furlongs on the Tapeta features defending race winner Amalfi Coast. The chestnut filly won last year's edition of the race to earn her first graded stakes score and enters off a victory last time out in the Oct. 23 Sweet Briar Too Stakes.

Sunday November 22

5:58 p.m.—$125,000 Grade 3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine on TVG

Nine 2-year-olds, including impressive first-time winner Haddassah, are set to contest Sunday's Grey Stakes. Haddassah, a bay son of Air Force Blue, didn't fly under the radar in his curtain-raising effort on Nov. 1. Trained by Kevin Attard, the Ontario-bred went off as the 9-5 choice in the 1 mile and 70-yard main track maiden special weight event, a race that was originally scheduled for the turf.

6:28 p.m.—$125,000 Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine on TVG

Mark Casse, who has seven Mazarine titles, has two opportunities to add to that impressive total, Sunday. The 1 1/16-mile Mazarine has attracted a field of seven 2-year-old fillies, including Casse charges Souper Sensational and Sleek Lynx. Owned by Live Oak Plantation, Souper Sensational has lived up to her name over two starts, including a fantastic four-length display in the Glorious Song Stakes on Oct. 17 at Woodbine. Sent on her way as the 3-5 choice, the chestnut daughter of Curlin widened her advantage down the lane, going on for the easy score in a time of 1:21.84 over seven furlongs on the Woodbine Tapeta.

Weekend Lineup: Breeders’ Cup World Championships Return To Keeneland

For the second time in its 37-year history, the Breeders' Cup World Championships returns to Keeneland on Nov. 6-7 where 14 races will help determine year-end divisional honors. NBC Sports will broadcast live all of the Breeders' Cup races with Friday's five races will be shown on NBCSN during a broadcast from 2-6 p.m. ET. The first four of nine Breeders' Cup races on Saturday will be shown on NBCSN from noon-2:30 p.m. ET, and the final five will air on a national broadcast on NBC from 2:30-6 p.m. ET, culminating with the Breeders' Cup Classic, which has a post time of 5:13 p.m. ET.

The Breeders' Cup World Championships will also be broadcast live on TVG. TVG will also show live racing from Del Mar and other tracks all week as part of its usual coast-to-coast schedule.

Friday, Nov. 6

1:50 p.m.—$200,000 Grade 2 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes at Keeneland on TVG

Stakes winner Ry's the Guy heads up a full field of 14 entered for the 1 5/8-miles Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes. Trained by Ian Wilkes, Ry's the Guy most recently won the Champions Day Marathon at Churchill Downs on September 1.

2:30 p.m.—$1,000,000 Grade 2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Keeneland on NBCSN and TVG

Ranlo Investment's Golden Pal is the 8-5 morning line favorite for the 5 ½-furlong race that drew a field of 14. Trained by Wesley Ward, who won this race last year with Four Wheel Drive, Golden Pal broke his maiden by 3 ½ lengths in the Skidmore at Saratoga after returning from Royal Ascot where he finished second in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes. The Juvenile Fillies drew a field of seven for the 1 1/16-mile test that includes the top runners from California, New York and Kentucky, all of whom are unbeaten. The one-mile is headlined by a trio of undefeated runners: Campanelle (IRE), Plum Ali and Aunt Pearl (IRE). Aunt Pearl cruised to a 2 1/2-length front-running victory in the Grade 2 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland October 7, five weeks after her debut win at Churchill Downs and is listed as the 3-1 morning line favorite. Campanelle, co-second choice at 4-1, won the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville and the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot as part of her 3-for-3 campaign. Kirk and Judy Robison's undefeated Jackie's Warrior is the 7-5 morning line favorite for the Juvenile, which drew a field of 14. 11:50 a.m.—$100,000 Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm at Aqueduct on FS2

Trainer Todd Pletcher will be represented by three fillies as looks to secure a fifth triumph in the 26th running of the Turnback the Alarm going 1 1/8 miles over the Aqueduct main track. Arriving fresh off a second career stakes triumph in the Lady's Secret at Monmouth Park is Teresa Viola Stable and St. Elias Stable's Nonna Madeline, who owns a consistent 12-4-3-1 record. The 4-year-old Candy Ride (ARG) bay maintained a stalking position in second in the early stages of the 1 1/16-mile Lady's Secret and engaged in a stretch battle with fellow Turnback the Alarm aspirant Royal Flag, holding off the stubborn foe to win by a nose.

12:02 p.m.—$1,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Keeneland on NBCSN and TVG

Michael Lund Petersen's Gamine is the 7-5 morning line favorite for the Filly & Mare Sprint that drew a field of nine. Trained by Bob Baffert, Gamine was an overpowering presence in one-turn romps in the Grade 1 Test Stakes by seven lengths and the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes by 18 ¾ lengths. Gary Barber's Got Stormy, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Mile last year at Santa Anita, is the 7-2 morning line favorite for the Turf Sprint over 5 ½ furlongs. Trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, Got Stormy finished second against males going a mile in two Grade 1 races this year before cutting back to sprints. She responded with a victory going 6 ½ furlongs at Kentucky Downs and then a victory at Keeneland in the Grade 3 Franklin County Stakes at 5 ½ furlongs. Klaravich Stables' Complexity, winner of the Grade 2 Kelso Stakes in his most recent start, is the 2-1 morning line favorite for the Dirt Mile that drew a field of 12. Trained by Chad Brown, Complexity will break from post 10 under Jose Ortiz. 1:57 p.m.—$2,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland on NBCSN and TVG

Peter Brant's Sistercharlie (IRE) and e Five Racing Thoroughbreds' Rushing Fall will represent trainer Chad Brown in the Filly & Mare Turf, a race Brown has won four times. One of those victories came from Sistercharlie in 2018 at Churchill Downs. Winless in two starts in 2020 following a third-place finish in her bid to repeat last year, Sistercharlie will be ridden by John Velazquez and break from post position two. Favored at 5-2 is Rushing Fall, a winner of five stakes in six starts at Keeneland and a Grade 1 winner at age 2, 3, 4 and 5. A winner of 11 of career starts that includes a score in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar, Rushing Fall will break from post position six under regular rider Javier Castellano.

2:36 p.m.—$2,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland on NBC and TVG

Trainer Steve Asmussen, who won the Sprint last year with Mitole, will send out two runners: Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt's undefeated Yaupon and L and N Racing's Grade 1 winner Echo Town. Joel Rosario rides Yaupon from post 10 while Echo Town breaks from the rail under Ricardo Santana Jr. Adding an element of intrigue into the Sprint is the 3-year-old Frank's Rockette for trainer Bill Mott. 3:15 p.m.—$2,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile at Keeneland on NBC and TVG

Michael Dubb, Head of Plains Partners, Robert LaPenta and Bethlehem Stables' Uni (GB) will take on the boys again as she bids to capture the Mile for a second consecutive year. Trained by Chad Brown, Uni has won two of three starts over the Keeneland turf course with the victories coming in the past two runnings of the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes. Favoritism in the Mile goes to Bonne Chance Farm and Stud R D I's Ivar (BRZ) at 4-1. Trained by Paulo Lobo, Ivar won the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland in his most recent start and will break from post 11 under Joe Talamo.

Trainer Mark Casse is represented by the duo of Heavenly Curlin and Tappitty Tappitty in the 1 ¼-mile main track Maple Leaf Stakes. Bred in Kentucky by Elevage II, Heavenly Curlin, a daughter of Curlin, has compiled a record of 2-0-1 from four starts. 3:54 p.m.—$2,000,000 Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff at Keeneland on NBC and TVG

Champion Monomoy Girl, the 2018 Distaff winner, aims to become just the fourth horse to win the Distaff twice when she faces a field that includes 2020 Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver. Owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stables, Monomoy Girl is undefeated in three starts in 2020 after missing all of 2019 because of a pulled muscle and bout of colic. Peter Callahan's Swiss Skydiver has won five of nine starts this year in a campaign that has taken her coast to coast. Derrick Smith, Mrs. John Magnier and Michael Tabor's Magical (IRE) is the morning line favorite in a field of 10 for the Turf to be contested over 1 ½ miles. WinStar Farm, CHC Inc., and SF Racing's Improbable has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field of 10 for Saturday's Classic to be run at 1 ¼ miles on the main track. Fifth in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile last fall at Santa Anita, Improbable has posted a 4-3-1-0 record in 2020 with the victories coming in his past three starts in Grade 1 tests. One of three Classic entrants trained by three-time Classic winner Bob Baffert, Improbable will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. and break from post position eight. Baffert's other two entries are Maximum Security, the champion 3-year-old of 2019, and Authentic, winner of the 2020 Kentucky Derby. Sackatoga Stable's Belmont and Travers Stakes winner Tiz the Law is the second choice on the morning line at 3-1.

Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's Isolate has done no wrong in his first two career starts and puts a perfect record on the line when shipping to New York for the 44th running of the Nashua going a one-turn mile. Trained by Kathy Ritvo, Isolate did just as his name suggested in his last-out gate-to-wire effort where he defeated winners over a sloppy main track at Gulfstream Park by 10 lengths. The Florida-bred son Mark Valeski was a three-quarter length winner against his Sunshine State-bred counterparts in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight on August 6 at Gulfstream, where he defeated next out-winner and subsequent stakes winner Poppy's Pride.

Weekend Lineup Presented By Del Mar Ship & Win: Calm Before The Storm

Graded stakes action is light stateside in the weekend leading up to the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland, but on Sunday in Japan, seven-time G1 winner Almond Eye will start in the G1 Tenno Sho.

A pair of listed stakes are featured on opening weekend at Del Mar, one Saturday and one Sunday. Also this weekend, a pair of stakes for 2-year-olds at Woodbine will begin the roads toward the 2021 Woodbine Oaks and Queen's Plate.

Racing from Belmont Park is televised on “America's Day at the Races” on FS2. “America's Day at the Races” will also broadcast races from the Churchill Downs' fall meet.

Saturday, Oct. 31

4:57 p.m.-$100,000 Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap at Belmont Park

Trained by Daniel Velazquez, the 6-year-old Arch Cat will be making his 38th career start in the seven-furlong test for 3-year-olds and up on Big Sandy. The hard-knocking Arch gelding, who sports a record of 13-3-12 with purse earnings of $363,485, was claimed for $16,000 in June 2019 at Parx and has since won 6-of-14 starts for the new connections.

Dreaming of Drew, a two-year-old daughter of Speightster, chases her first added-money title in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes, one of two ($100,000 Overskate) features on Saturday's 11-race card at Woodbine. Eight starters are slated to go postward in the 75th renewal of the Princess Elizabeth, a 1 1/16-mile main track race for Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies. Trained by Barbara Minshall, who has 380 career victories, Dreaming of Drew arrives at Saturday's engagement off a fourth-place finish in the Natalma Stakes (G1T) on Sept. 20 at Woodbine.

The Bing Crosby Season kicks off with a salute to the classy wife of the late singer and track co-founder – Kathryn Crosby – with a stakes race named in her honor and limited to fillies and mare aged 3 and up. Pick a filly or mare in this lineup and you can make a ready case why she could or should win. Morning line maker Jon White gave just the slightest of edges for favoritism to Donnie Crevier's veteran mare Cordiality as he hung her at a lukewarm 7-2. He put Branham, Baltas or McClanahan's Colonial Creed next at 4-1, then put a 5-1 projection on four different horses. It figures to be a tight one in the wagering and just as tight out on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course.

1:40 a.m.-about $3,104,299 G1 Tenno Sho Autumn At Tokyo Racecourse

The “Emperor's Cup,” run over 2,000 meters of turf, will feature 12 horses including seven-time Grade 1 winner Almond Eye. A total of seven Grade 1 winners will be participating, including double Tenno Sho (Spring) winner Fierement and Chrono Genesis, who crushed the competition in the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen at the end of June. Ages range from 4 to 6, with three females and one gelding competing against the boys.

4:48 p.m.-$250,000 Coronation Futurity at Woodbine

Eight hopefuls, including Barb Minshall trainees British Royalty and Threefiftyseven, and Gail Cox charge Tio Magico, square off in Sunday's $250,000 Coronation Futurity Stakes, at Woodbine. The 1 1/8-mile Tapeta event for Canadian-foaled 2-year-olds is a significant race on the road to the 162nd running of the Queen's Plate, first jewel of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Minshall, in the midst of a strong campaign, packs a powerful punch in the form of British Royalty and Threefiftyseven. British Royalty, an Ontario-bred son of English Channel, impressed in his career bow on October 11 at Woodbine. Under Jerome Lermyte, who once again gets the call in the Coronation Futurity, the Bruce Lunsford-owned gelding was pinched back at the start of the 1 mile and 70 yard main track race. Last of nine early, British Royalty steadily gained on his eight rivals, and was travelling well around the final turn. Sixth at the stretch call, he continued to gobble up ground and went on to a 1 ¾-length score in a time of 1:43.74.

7:00 p.m.-$75,000 Let It Ride Stakes at Del Mar

Alfred Pais homebred Margot's Boy was a tabbed a narrow 3-1 favorite in a competitive field of 10 on oddsmaker Jon White's morning line for Sunday's featured $75,000 Let It Ride Stakes at one mile on turf for 3-year-olds. A son of Clubhouse Ride out of the English-bred mare Margot Machance trained by Craig Lewis, Margot's Boy has three wins from nine career starts and earnings of $172,020. He shortens up from 1 1/8-mile assignments in the Grade II, $200,000 Del Mar Derby on September 6 (2nd) and Grade II, $200,000 Twilight Derby (7th) on October 18 at Santa Anita.
