NYRA, Meadowlands Partner For Cross-Breed Cross Country Pick 5 On Saturday

The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) will host a unique cross-breed Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday featuring stakes action from the Breeders Crown at the Meadowlands and Empire Showcase Day at Belmont Park.

Free Equibase past performances for the Cross Country Pick 5 sequence are now available for download at https://www.nyra.com/belmont/racing/cross-country-wagers.

Current New York State regulations allow NYRA to accept wagering only on standardbred races that take place in New York. As such, the cross-breed Cross Country Pick 5 will not be available on-track at Belmont or to NYRA Bets customers located in New York State. The cross-breed Cross Country Pick 5 is available to NYRA Bets, LLC customers outside of New York State.

Saturday's sequence kicks off in Race 7 at 2:51 p.m. at the Meadowlands with the $650,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Fillies Trot led by the Nifty Norman-trained Hambletonian Oaks winner Bella Bellini, who bested Herculisa in last week's elimination in rein to returning driver Dexter Dunn. Altar, who won her elimination for trainer Nancy Takter, will again be piloted by Yannick Gingras.

The second leg will see Kentucky Futurity-winner Jujubee look to go one better for trainer Greg Wright, Jr. after finishing second to Cuatro De Julio in last week's elimination for the $650,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Trot [Race 8, 3:27 p.m.]. Trainer Marcus Melander will send out In Range [Tim Tetrick] and Dancinginthedark [Brian Sears].

Action switches to the Belmont main track for the middle leg with a field of 10 juvenile fillies lining up for the $250,000 Maid of the Mist in Race 7 at 3:47 p.m. Leading the charge is a pair of contenders for trainer Jorge Abreu in Gold Square homebred Sue Ellen Mishkin and NY Final Furlong Racing Stable and Parkland Thoroughbreds' Venti Valentine.

Sue Ellen Mishkin romped to a 7 1/4-length score against fellow state-breds in August at Saratoga Race Course but finished a disappointing seventh last out after a troubled trip in the Grade 1 Spinaway traveling seven furlongs over the Spa main track. Venti Valentine rallied from off-the-pace to notch a nose score on debut after leaving post 11 in a field of 12 state-breds.

The penultimate leg returns to the Meadowlands for the $330,000 Breeders Crown Filly and Mare Pace in Race 9. Jim King Jr.'s Lyons Sentinel [Tim Tetrick] will look to make amends after finishing third as the mutuel favorite in her elimination which was won by Rocknificent over longshot Peaky Sneaky.

Closing out the sequence is the $250,000 Empire Distaff at 1 1/16-miles for New York-bred fillies and mares in Race 8 from Belmont Park.

Gary Barber's multiple graded stakes placed Make Mischief leads a talented field that includes last year's Grade 3 Go for Wand-winner Sharp Starr as well as the streaking Bank Sting, who has won her last four starts led by a last-out score in the Critical Eye Handicap in May at Belmont.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool.

America's Day at the Races is presented by America's Best Racing, Runhappy, and Claiborne Farm. For the complete broadcast schedule, and additional programming information, visit https://www.nyra.com/belmont/racing/tv-schedule.

Friday’s Stronach 5 Features Average Field Size Of 10 Entrants

The Stronach 5 will feature an average field size of 10 and a low 12-percent takeout when it returns Friday with races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields.

There were four winning tickets last week in the Stronach 5 with each returning $98,311. The popular wager had a carryover of $78,823.

The Stronach 5 begins at approximately 4:07 ET with a field of 12 allowance runners going 5 ½ furlongs on the turf at Laurel Park. Montauk Daddy gets the rail for trainer Rob Atras and jockey Charlie Marquez. Fourth over a “good turf” at Monmouth Park last out, the 4-year-old son of Daddy Long Legs won consecutive races this summer sprinting on the turf and dirt at Saratoga. Hard to Be Humble just missed last out at the distance and surface for trainer Hugh McMahon. Irish Mias hasn't raced in a year for trainer Graham Motion, but as a 3-year-old was beaten just four lengths in the Saranac (G3) and three in the Kitten's Joy (G3).

The Stronach 5 stays in Maryland for the second leg. Laurel's ninth race, a starter allowance for 3-year-olds and up at seven furlongs, Kingston Pike has had some tough luck his last two starts under jockey Grant Whitacre. The 6-year-old finished second Sept. 26 despite stumbling at the break and was placed third in his last after being checked at the eighth pole. Whitacre remains aboard for trainer Mario Serey Jr. Sneakiness arrives at Laurel after racing at Parx and Monmouth this summer. The 5-year-old has finished first or second in five of his last six starts. Rock and Fellers likes to show speed and goes for his fourth win in his last five starts.

The action shifts to California for the third leg of the Stronach 5. Santa Anita's third leg features 11 maidens, 3 and up, at 1 1/16 miles. After finishing eighth on the turf last out, Mayhem and Chaos drops in company and returns to the main track, where he finished second Sept. 24 at Los Alamitos against $40,000 claimers. The son of Union Rags will also be equipped with blinkers for trainer Ron Ellis. Mongol Altai will try to find the winner's circle in his 18th try after finishing second in both of his last starts. Big Well returns from a two-month layoff for Ryan Hanson. The first and third finishers from his last race at Del Mar both returned to win. Flavien Prat gets the mount.

Gulfstream's ninth race serves as the fourth leg of the Stronach 5. The 5 ½ furlong maiden claiming event drew a dozen 2-year-old fillies including Greatest Glory, claimed last time out by Jorge Delgado, who is 28-percent first off the claim and 31-percent in maiden claimers. Chantal Sutherland gets the ride. Mi. Tallawah and La Bokaina make their second starts after finishing third in their debut. Trainer Antonio Sano will saddle first-time starter Hannita's Empire. Edgard Zayas has the mount.

The Stronach 5 wraps up at Golden Gate Fields with the third race, another maiden race, this one a maiden special weight, for 2-year-old fillies at 5 ½ furlongs. Delia Mo, a daughter of Outwork, will try to break her maiden in her fourth race. She finished fifth in September against maiden special weight company at Los Alamitos and enters this race off a second-place finish at Fresno. Jonathan Wong sends out first-time starter Midnight's Girl as does Jamey Thomas with Don't Tell Hydee. Gold Rush Gal comes into the race off a second-place finish against restricted company Oct. 2 at Golden Gate.

Friday's races and sequence

Leg One –Laurel Race 8: (12 entries, 5 ½ furlongs turf) 4 :07 ET, 1:07 PT
Leg Two – Laurel Race 9: (9 entries, 7 furlongs) 4:39 ET, 1:39 PT

Fans can watch and wager on the action at 1/ST.COM/BET as well as stream all the action in English and Spanish at LaurelPark.com, SantaAnita.com, GulfstreamPark.com, and GoldenGateFields.com.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Saturday’s Cross Country Pick 5 Features Action From Belmont, Keeneland

The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) will host a Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday featuring graded-stakes action from Keeneland and Belmont Park.

Free Equibase past performances for the Cross Country Pick 5 sequence are now available for download at https://www.nyra.com/belmont/racing/cross-country-wagers.

Saturday's sequence kicks off in Race 8 at Belmont Park at 4:21 p.m. Eastern with trainer Chad Brown saddling Tamahere and Love and Thunder as he attempts to win the Grade 3 Noble Damsel for the sixth year in a row.

Tamahere enters the one-mile Widener turf test for fillies and mares from a dominant 7 1/4-length score in the 1 1/16-mile Violet in September over yielding Monmouth Park turf. Love and Thunder won a seven-furlong turf allowance sprint last out on October 1 over the Belmont green. Steep opposition will be provided by High Opinion, runner-up last out in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa; and the speedy multiple stakes winner Shifty She.

Action switches to Keeneland [Race 8, 4:44 p.m.] for the second leg with a dozen 3-year-olds and upward signed on for a 1 1/16-mile turf allowance led by graded-stakes winners Mr Dumas and Bizzee Channel.

Trained by John Ortiz, Mr Dumas matched a career-best 100 Beyer winning a similar Keeneland turf allowance last October. He enters from a fading sixth in the Grade 3 Ack Ack on October 2 at Churchill Downs. Bizzee Channel, trained by Larry Rivelli, won the Grade 3 Arlington three starts back traveling 1 3/16 miles over good going. He enters from a distant eighth in the Grade 3 Mint Million on September 6 at Kentucky Downs.

In the third leg, the Grade 2, $400,000 Hill Prince [Race 9, 4:52 p.m.], Brown sends out a formidable trio in Public Sector, Sifting Sands and Founder in the nine-furlong inner turf test for sophomores at Belmont. Public Sector, by Kingman, enters from back-to-back scores at Saratoga in the one-mile Grade 2 Hall of Fame in August and the 1 1/16-mile Grade 3 Saranac on September 4.

Sifting Sands, winner of the restricted Better Talk Now on August 29 at the Spa, and Founder, who captured the Tale of the Cat two starts back at Monmouth Park, are both in search of their first graded score. A longshot contender is the well-related stakes-winner War Bomber [by War Front], who is a full sibling to Group 1-winner Lancaster Bomber and a half-brother to multiple Group 1-winner Excelebration [by Exceed and Excel].

The final two legs take place at Keeneland with the penultimate race featuring a field of 13 sophomore fillies in the seven-furlong Grade 2 Raven Run in Race 9 at 5:16 p.m. led by multiple Grade 1-placed Juddmonte homebred Obligatory for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

The Curlin grey, who won the Grade 2 Eight Belles in April at Churchill Downs, has made her last three starts in Grade 1 company including runner-up efforts in both the Acorn in June at Belmont and the Cotillion at Parx last out on September 25. The regally-bred Zainalarab, by War Front and out of the graded-stakes winning Tapit mare Delightful Joy, steps into stakes company for the first time off a sharp allowance win in August at Saratoga.

Closing out the wager is a loaded one-mile turf allowance for 3-year-olds and up that drew a field of 12, including Grade 1-placed Ginsburned and an impressive Godolphin homebred maiden winner in Santin – a Distorted Humor bay out of the multiple graded-stakes winning Medaglia d'Oro mare Sentiero Italia.
