Gulfstream: Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Gross Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $450,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $450,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for six racing days in a row.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, including the $75,000 Sunshine Filly and Mare Turf in Race 10. The mile turf stakes for older Florida-bred fillies and mares will co-headline Saturday's program with the $75,000 Sunshine Turf, a 1 1/8-mile turf stakes for older Florida-bred horses carded as Race 4.

Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Sugar Fix, who most recently captured the Claiming Crown Tiara, is rated as the 9-5 morning-line favorite in a field of seven. Graham Motion-trained Sister Otoole, who finished second in the Maple Leaf (G2) over Woodbine's Tapeta track last time out, is rated second at 5-2.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Todd Pletcher-trained Shamrocket, who captured the Sunshine Classic last weekend in his dirt debut, is rated as the 7-5 morning-line favorite in his return to turf in the Sunshine Turf.

Irad Ortiz Jr., who has been sidelined by a knee injury, is scheduled to return to action Saturday with to riding engagements. The two-time defending Championship Meet titlist is named to ride Max K.O. in the Sunshine Turf in Race 4 and Ideal Breeze in Race 5.

Who's Hot: Leading rider Luis Saez was victorious on his first four mounts on Friday's program, sweeping the first three races Golden Isle ($4.40) in Race 1, Boldness ($3) in Race 2 and Reconfigure ($6.40) in Race 3 before taking a race off and coming back to win Race 5 aboard Take Charge Ro ($3) in Race 5.

Emisael Jaramillo notched back-to-back wins aboard Big Daddy Dave ($3.20) in Race 8 and Fish Mooney ($15) in Race 9.

Stronach 5: Two Winning Tickets Each Pay $49,623

There were two winning tickets in Friday's Stronach 5, each worth $49,623.90.

The Stronach 5 featured races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields and a low 12 percent takeout.

The Stronach 5 began with the ninth and 10th races from Laurel Park, and both races were wide open and produced nice returns. Joe Mike Jim, trained by leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez, returned $17.20 in the ninth race and Edict, trained by Edward Allard, returned $9.80 for winning Race 10.

Santa Anita's third race was up next and Lookin At Sweetie drove to the lead down the stretch to win at odds of 3-1 for trainer Richard Baltas and jockey Diego Herrera. Gulfstream's ninth race, contested over a mile and 70 yard Tapeta course, was won by Fish Mooney at odds of 6-1 for trainer Mark Casse and jockey Emisael Jaramillo. The Stronach 5 concluded with Golden Gate's third race and the 14-1 shot Perfect Edition

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Weekend Lineup Presented By DRFBets: Road To Kentucky Heads To The Big Easy

This weekend's horse racing action is highlighted by the six stakes races on Saturday's card at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, La., with a pair of prep races for the first Friday and Saturday in May drawing significant attention.

Perhaps the best race on the afternoon, however, is the match-up between Mandaloun and Midnight Bourbon in the G3 Louisiana Stakes. It will be the sixth time these millionaire rivals face one another, and good performances could propel them to the $20 million Saudi Cup next month.

Meanwhile, Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up Pappacap will be challenged by Epicenter in the Lecomte. The latter has won his last two starts for trainer Steve Asmussen, including a listed stakes race over the local surface. Pappacap brings experience to the table for trainer Mark Casse, with two wins and two seconds from five starts thus far.

Also on Saturday are listed stakes at Oaklawn, Aqueduct, Gulfstream, and Santa Anita, while Sunday's feature is the Oaks points-offering Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct.

5:52 PM – $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds

Off an easy win in her career debut at Churchill Downs on Nov. 20, Stonestreet Stables' La Crete has been installed as the 2-1 morning line against five rivals for Saturday's $150,000 Silverbulletday for 3-year-old fillies to be run over 1 mile 70 yards at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, La. By Medaglia d'Oro, La Crete is a half-sister to millionaire Clairiere.

Off a maiden win and a fourth in the Tempted Stakes at Belmont, Westerberg Limited, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith's Sweet as Pie invades from her home base at Palm Beach Downs in Florida to contest the Silverbulletday for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Columbine Stables' Fannie and Freddie swings back off a recent second behind the undefeated North County in the Untapable Stakes for trainer Al Stall, Jr. The daughter of Malibu Moon won her two-turn debut in the start prior, and she looked home free in the stretch of her stakes debut, only to be run down late.

The top four finishers will earn Kentucky Oaks qualifying points (10-4-2-1).

6:49 PM – G3 Louisiana Stakes at Fair Grounds

Lecomte, Risen Star, Louisiana Derby, Kentucky Derby, Haskell: this Saturday's 76th running of the $150,000 Louisiana Stakes (G3) at the Fair Grounds will be the sixth time both Mandaloun and Midnight Bourbon enter the starting gate as rivals. Mandaloun has bragging rights, winning or finishing in front of Midnight Bourbon in three out of five match-ups thus far.

Mandaloun's last start was July 17 in the Haskell (G1) when he dueled through the final furlong finishing a nose short of Hot Rod Charlie, but an impending DQ awarded the Brad Cox-trained Mandaloun his fifth career win out of eight starts.

Last seen setting the pace in November's Clark (G1) with jockey Joel Rosario on board, Midnight Bourbon ran well, only to be overtaken in the stretch by the classy Maxfield and Happy Saver. He gets a slight cut-back in distance to 1 1/16 miles for the Louisiana. As in the Clark, Rosario gets the call.

7:20 PM – G3 Lecomte Stakes at Fair Grounds

Rustlewood Farm's Pappacap, the current points leader on the Road to the Kentucky Derby with 12, headlines a field of nine 3-year-olds for the $200,000 Lecomte Stakes (G3). A sprint winner on debut on May 14 at Gulfstream, the Florida-bred Pappacap has raced in four graded stakes in California since, winning the Best Pal (G2) at Del Mar and most recently finishing as the runner-up behind Corniche in both the American Pharoah (G2) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1).

The close second choice at 9-5, Winchell Thoroughbreds' Epicenter eyes his third consecutive win for trainer Steve Asmussen. After breaking his maiden on the lead, the son of Not This Time dominated the Gun Runner last time out, sitting just off the pace before taking over off the turn and drawing away by 6 ½ lengths.

Columbine Stable's Trafalgar enters the Lecomte off a narrow Fair Grounds allowance victory in his two-turn debut on Dec. 2. After building a comfortable margin in the deep stretch, the son of Lord Nelson had to dig deep to score his second consecutive win for trainer Al Stall, Jr.

Run over 1 1/16 miles, the Lecomte offers ten Kentucky Derby points to the winner, with the rest of the top four earning 4-2-1.

Friday’s Stronach 5: Four Tracks, Five Races In Under 60 Minutes

The Stronach 5 will feature competitive races Friday from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields along with a low 12-percent takeout.

The sequence will include an allowance optional claimer for 3-year-old fillies from Gulfstream and wide-open claiming events from Laurel, Santa Anita and Golden Gate.

The Stronach 5, which continues to offer a strong return on investment, will start at 3:55 with Races 9 and 10 from Laurel.

Laurel's ninth race, a $40,000 maiden claimer for 3-year-old fillies going six furlongs, drew a wide-open field of 10 and a tepid 4-1 favorite in Miss Foxann, a well-beaten favorite in her second start Dec. 17. The daughter of Kantharos is first-time Lasix. Leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez steps up Joe Mike Jim after claiming her Dec. 19 for $25,000 in her second start. Brittany Russell will saddle Market of Stocks, third after a wide trip in her debut Nov. 20. The winner of the race came back to win a $25,000 claimer. Russell also saddles first-time starter Doomscroller, a daughter of Tonalist.

Laurel's 10th race, a $5,000 claimer for 4-year-olds and up at a mile, is another wide-open race with Jungle Warrior a 5-2 favorite. The gelding will be making his first start since February. Hayne's Fever comes off a second-place finish on a muddy track Dec. 31. Edict comes out of the same race, finishing third on the muddy track. The 6-year-old won over a fast track Dec. 10 at Penn National for Edward Allard.

The Stronach 5 heads west for the third leg and Santa Anita's third race, a $20,000 claiming event for fillies and mares at six furlongs. The field of six is led by Cayton Kid, who was competitive at this level Dec. 11 but was a well-beaten sixth last out when running against restricted maiden special weight company. Lookin At Sweetie, beaten in her first two starts by 11 lengths both times, goes out first time for Richard Baltas. It will be the fillies first start since October of 2020.

Gulfstream's ninth race serves as the fourth leg of the sequence. The $61,000 allowance optional claiming event at a mile and 70 yards on the Tapeta drew seven 3-year-old fillies. Todd Pletcher saddles the 2-1 favorite in Morning Nell, a winner in her Dec. 5 debut on turf. The daughter of Kitten's Joy gets first-time Lasix. Qatar Racing's Sunstrike, an Irish-bred who was stakes-placed in Great Britain at two, makes her second start in the U.S. after a sixth-place finish Dec. 3 in the Wait a While. Myfavoritedaughter was second on the turf at Tampa last out after finishing seventh in the Wait a While, 10th in the Alcibiades (G1) and fourth in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). Mark Casse sends out Palmach, ninth in the Wait a While, and Fish Money, third on the Tapeta last out.

The Stronach 5 concludes with Golden Gate's third race, a $4,000 claiming event at a mile for fillies and mares. Mia Solina breaks from the rail and is 5-2 in the morning line. The mare has a second and four thirds in her last five starts. Quick Time, claimed off a victory against $5,000 maidens, drops after finishing eighth against $12,500 claimers. Shanghai Mist goes out for Faith Taylor after a fourth-place finish last out.
