Trio Of Turf Sprints Highlight Friday’s Stronach 5 Wager

Races from Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, including three turf sprints, will highlight Friday's Stronach 5.

The popular wager with an industry-low 12-percent takeout will begin with Gulfstream's seventh race at 4:15 ET.

A dozen 4-year-olds and up have entered the five-furlong turf sprint for claimers to kick off the Stronach 5. Raymond Murphy's French Reef, the 3-1 favorite, enters off a troubled trip last time out for trainer Rohan Crichton. Ron Paolucci Racing, LLC's Going for Gold draws the 12 post and drops from allowance company.

Laurel's ninth race will serve as the second leg of the Stronach 5. A claiming event at 6 ½ furlongs for non-winner of three lifetime has a 2-1 favorite in Pascal Chant for Dale Capuano and a 5-2 choice in Extra Medium for leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez.

Santa Anita's third race, the third leg of the sequence, is a wide-open, $50,000 maiden claiming event for 3-year-olds at five furlongs on the turf. The morning-line favorites are Amanofmystature (5-2), Cross Indian (7-2) and Soulong (4-1). Peter Miller trains Amanofmystature, a gelded son of Into Mischief, and Soulong, a son of Perfect Soul. Cross Indian returns from a seven-month layoff after finishing second by a nose in maiden special weight company at Del Mar.

Golden Gate's third race, a maiden special weight event for California-bred 3-year-olds, will serve as the fourth leg of the sequence. The mile event has a 2-1 favorite in Tribal Nation, coming off two second-place finishes at Golden Gate and Los Alamitos.

The Stronach 5 wraps up at Gulfstream with a five-furlong turf event for 3-year-olds with a $25,000 maiden tag. It's a wide-open finale with Supplication a 3-1 favorite dropping in company for trainer Mark Casse. George Weaver will saddle a first-time starter in Gael Power, a son of Soldat to be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione. Leading rider Irad Ortiz Jr. has been named on 6-1 shot Congrats Again for trainer Michael Yates.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Aqueduct’s Empire 6 Wager To Offer Daily Mandatory Payout During Month Of February

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced the Empire 6 wager will continue to offer a daily mandatory payout in the month of February at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Featuring a $0.20 bet minimum and 20 percent takeout, the Empire 6 wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the card. The full pool, minus takeout, will be distributed to bettors who select the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races on the card.

NYRA established a daily mandatory payout of the Empire 6 for all 19 race dates in the month of January at Aqueduct as part of a pilot program in response to horseplayer interest in wagers that reward the daily player with the opportunity for impressive payouts.

“The extension of this pilot program will benefit horseplayers and allow NYRA to continue to analyze the Empire 6,” said Joe Longo, General Manager of NYRA Content Management Solutions. “The wager saw significant growth in January, and we thank all those watching and wagering from home for their continued support.”

Aqueduct will offer 16 racing dates in February with live racing generally conducted Thursday through Sunday, with the addition of a special Monday card on February 15 for Presidents' Day.

The Empire 6 was launched in August 2019 with a jackpot provision in which the full pool would be paid out only to a single ticket selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, otherwise 75 percent of the day's net pool would be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races with the remainder added into a jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.

Saturday’s Cigar Mile Card Features Mandatory Payout Of Empire 6 Wager

Cigar Mile Day on Saturday at Aqueduct will feature a mandatory payout of the New York Racing Association's Empire 6 wager, which carried a jackpot of $48,311 heading into Friday's card at the Big A.

The Empire 6 will start with Race 5 [1:30 p.m. Eastern post time] for Saturday's 10-race card, with the sequence encompassing three graded stakes, including the Grade 3, $100,000 Go for Wand in Race 6 and the two concluding races with the Grade 2, $150,000 Demoiselle for juvenile fillies in Race 9 and the Grade 1, $250,000 Cigar Mile for 3-year-olds and up in the finale.

The Empire 6 requires the bettor to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the day's card. On non-mandatory payout days, if one unique ticket exists, then 100 percent of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover if applicable, will be paid to the winner. If there is no unique wager selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, then 75 percent of the day's net pool will be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races. The remainder will be added into the jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.

The Big A fall meet will conclude on Sunday, December 6 with a stakes-laden card that offers a pair of rich New York Stallion Stakes Series races, including the Great White Way for 2-year-olds and the Fifth Avenue for juvenile fillies, with purses of $250,000 each. Also featured on Closing Day is the $100,000 Garland of Roses at six furlongs for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Live racing action will then continue with the 56-day Aqueduct winter meet which kicks off Thursday, Dec. 10 and runs through Sunday, March 28, offering 42 stakes races worth $4.57 million in purses.

Stronach 5: Friday’s Wager Features Pair Of Turf Races, 12 Percent Takeout

The Stronach 5, which continues to provide a strong return on investment as well as an industry-low 12-percent takeout, features three races Friday from Gulfstream Park and two from Laurel Park.

The Stronach 5 begins at 3:49 p.m. and its last two legs will be on the turf from Gulfstream.

The Stronach 5 begins at Laurel with the eighth race, a starter optional claimer at six furlongs. Bull Shark, a lightly raced 4-year-old for trainer Cathal Lynch, has won three of six starts at Laurel. He gets Trevor McCarthy in the saddle. Phantom Ro, a former Florida Sire Stakes winner, enters off a 3 ½-length victory last time out.

Gulfstream's eighth race, the second leg, is an allowance optional claimer at six furlongs for 2-year-olds. Gary Barber's Carson City Kid is the 2-1 favorite while Arindel's homebred Tiger is the 5-2 second choice.

Laurel's ninth race serves as the third leg. A claiming event for fillies and mares at a mile, Lady Macho ships in from Finger Lakes after two second-place finishes under allowance conditions for trainer Jeremiah O'Dwyer.

The Stronach 5 returns to Gulfstream for the final two legs, both turf races at 1 1/16 miles. The ninth race, an allowance optional claimer for 3-year-olds and up, is extremely competitive with 5-2 morning-line favorite Flowmotion breaking from the hedge and a winner of three of his last five for trainer Jane Cibelli and jockey Paco Lopez. Jolting Joe comes into the event of a second-place finish Nov. 7 in the Showing Up at Gulfstream Park. The colt won the New York Stallion Series Stakes at Saratoga in August.

The final leg of the sequence, Gulfstream's 10th race, is a claiming event with the 3-1 favorite Lets Play Hardball breaking from post 12 for trainer Mike Maker and jockey Luis Seaz. Spinning Kitten a last-out winner, is 10-1 in the morning line with jockey Joe Bravo. Time for Trouble, another Maker trainee, gets jockey Edgard Zayas.
