Prats Keep Now-Retired Crosscheck Carlos All In The Family, Even In Retirement

Stakes winner Crosscheck Carlos may be retired from the racetrack, but I Am Horse Racing points out he's still seeing some familiar faces in his new career. The 7-year-old was piloted by jockey Flavien Prat during his maiden victory in 2016 at Santa Anita, and after his retirement the following year, he was adopted by Prat's wife Manon.

Manon Prat retired from her work as an exercise rider and said that he work with Crosscheck Carlos gives her a way to remain involved with horses beyond watching her husband's career.

Prat and Crosscheck Carlos went to their first jumper show and have a good base to build their new skills together.

Crosscheck Carlos retired the winner of the D.S. Shine Young Futurity and runner-up in the Barretts Juvenile Stakes and Gold Rush Futurity.

Ask Ray: Christmas Cheer And The Return Of Comments To The Website

It's been just over a fortnight since our publisher, Ray Paulick, in a fit of pique suspended reader comments on all stories at the Paulick Report. We told him it wasn't going to go over very well, and when he urged readers in the last episode of Ask Ray to send their opinions about this new policy, you flooded his inbox.

Well done!

Most of the emails were constructive, even understanding. But the overwhelming majority landed on the same conclusion: please bring the comments back.

Ray is usually not a very good listener, but in this instance we are grateful that not only did he read every one of the emails received, he actually comprehended some of them.

So along with our best holiday greetings – Merry Christmas to those who celebrate – we are very happy to announce that we once again are permitting comments on all stories. The only difference: rather than reviewing comments after they are published and deleting those that were offensive or had personal attacks, all comments are going into a moderation queue prior to publication and will be approved as quickly as possible. Please understand that we have a small staff with other responsibilities and will get to comments as quickly as possible, but there will be a delay between the time you share your words of wisdom and when they are published.

With that, we hope for 2021 to be a year of good health and happiness and a return to the relative normalcy we all enjoyed before the coronavirus pandemic turned our world upside down last March.

In this newest episode of Ask Ray, our publisher explains why the decision was made to reinstate comments. But no matter what he says, it's because we all miss Tinky … whoever he or she is.

#VoteHollie – Doyle Bidding To Become First Female Jockey To Win Sports Personality Of The Year

Great British Racing (GBR) has been hard at work creating a social media campaign supporting 24-year-old British jockey Hollie Doyle in her bid to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, according to the Racing Post. Doyle has been nominated for the award along with five other British athletes, and the winner will be voted on during the live awards show on BBC One this Sunday, Dec. 20.

Doyle has had a busy 2020 racing season: she rode her first Royal Ascot winner and won her first Group 1 race with Glen Shiel in the British Champions Sprint at Ascot in October. Doyle also broke her own record for most winners in a calendar year by a female jockey, and became the first female jockey to win a race during Hong Kong's LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship earlier this month at Happy Valley.

The only racing figure to win the award was Sir Anthony McCoy in 2010, so GBR is urging racing fans to rally together for world-wide support of the female jockey's bid for history through the use of social media and the hashtag #VoteHollie.

GBR published a feature story about Doyle's meteoric rise through the racing industry, which can be viewed here, as well as the video shown below.

A public vote will be conducted during Sunday's live show, which begins at 8:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. Eastern) on BBC1.
