BSA November 2YO Catalogue Released

A 152-strong catalogue for the Bloodstock South Africa November 2-Year-Old Sale has been released by the sales company on Thursday.

Slated for the TBA Complex in Germiston, South Africa, the sale will begin at 11 a.m. local time on Nov. 26. One of the highlights is a Duke Of Marmalade (Ire) half-brother to Equus Champion Nebraas (SAf) (Vercingetorix {SAf}). Some of the sires with juveniles catalogued include: Danon Platina (Jpn), Fire Away, Flower Alley, Gimmethegreenlight (Aus), Lancaster Bomber, Legislate (SAf), Master Of My Fate (SAf), Querari (Ger), Rafeef (Aus), The United States (Ire), Vercingetorix (SAf) and What A Winter (SAf).

BSA August 2YO Sale Topped by Vercingetorix Filly

The second session of the BSA August Two-Year-Old Sale proved more adventurous than the first as four of the five seven-digit purchases came during the portion of the event. The crowning draft arrived in the form of Lucrative (Saf), who topped the sale at R1,400,000 and cemented Vercingetorix as the top sire with an aggregate of R7,300,000 from 12 lots sold.

The jewel of the Maine Chance Farms (pty) Ltd. consignment, the bay daughter of Querari (Ger) mare La Collossa (Saf) hails from a busy Group-winning and performing family including MGSP-Fr La Banderilla (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}) and German champion MG1SW-Ger & GSP-US Lomitas (GB) (Niniski)–grandsire of Vercingetorix–through the female line of La Colorada (Ger), the German champion 2-year-old filly of her year. La Collossa does not claim quite the race record but has produced a winner from two of racing age counting Lucrative.

Of the 257 lots offered for the two-day auction, 245 sold (95.3%) for an aggregate of R59,690,000. The average was R244,631 and the median was R160,000.

Strong Clearance Rate Recorded At Cape Premier Yearling Sale

The one-day Cape Premier Yearling Sale featured a healthy clearance rate of 93%, after 101 sold of 109 offered for a gross of R44,825,000 (£2,193,921/€2,469,962/$2,679,212 /A$3,847,200). The average was R443,812 (£21,716/€24,453/ $26,528/A$38,091) and the median came in at R300,000 (£14,681/€16,530/$17,932/A$25,745). Gimmethegreenlight (Aus) was the sire of the day, accounting for three of the top four lots, while Vercingetorix (SAf) had four yearlings in the top 10. Overall, there were 10 yearlings to bring seven figures or more.

Topping proceedings was Valley Of The Kings (SAf) (Gimmethegreenlight {Aus}) (lot 107), who was offered by Maine Chance Farms. The Hong Kong Jockey Club extended to R3.8 million (£185,990/€209,384/$227,158/A$326,105) for the son of listed heroine Victoria Lavelle (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}), who ran third in the G3 Poinsettia S.

Colts by Gimmethegreenlight filled the third and fourth places, with lot 112, a son of African Daisy (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}), making R1.5 million on the bid of Greg Bortz from Klawervlei Stud. His third dam is the influential blue hen Ebaziya (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}), who produced The Queen's G1 Gold Cup heroine Estimate (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}).

IRC Krish Nagendran snapped up Supreme Green (SAf) (Gimmethegreenlight {Aus}) (lot 99) for R1.2 million from Drakenstein Stud. Already a half-brother to stakes winner See It Again (SAf) (Twice Over {GB}), the colts dam is a half-sister to South African Horse of the Year Do It Again (SAf) (Twice Over {GB}).

Second on the buyers' sheets was Handsome Prince (SAf) (Querari {Ger}) (lot 59) at R2 million. Hailing from the Varsfontein Stud consignment, the colt was bought by Westward Bloodstock. His dam, the Judpot mare Maleficent (SAf), won at listed level and was second in the G3 Starling S.

Trippi's daughter of Call To Account (SAf) (Captain Al {SAf}) (lot 1) was the day's dearest filly, going to the Tawny Syndicate for R1.1 million. Another from Klawervlei Stud, her dam is a dual stakes winner.

Cape Yearling Sale Topped By Vercingetorix Colt

A yearling colt by Vercingetorix (SAf) (Silvano {Ger}) took top billing during Sunday's Bloodstock South Africa Cape Yearling Sale. Consigned by Wilgerbosdrift as lot 64, the yearling, named Galic War (SAf), hammered at R375,000 to the Hollywood Syndicate. Produced by the winning Oojooba (SAf) (Dynasty {SAf}), the colt's second dam is the group-placed Salsabeel (Aus) (Elusive Quality) from the extended family of G1 Cheveley Park S. heroine Dead Certain (GB) (Absalom {GB}).

The top filly (lot 9) of the sale was by What A Winter (SAf) (Western Winter) and she was purchased by GMB Bloodstock. Consigned by Daytona Stud and named Inner Sense (SAf), the filly brought R320,000.

Overall, the sale grossed R11.77 million for 141 sold (81%) from 174 offered. The average was R84,071 (+26%) and the median also rose to R65,000 (+62.5%).
