Unified Colt a Debut Winner at Fair Grounds

UNDERHILL'S TAB (c, 2, Unified–Mykindasaint {MSW, $171,228}, by Saint Ballado), looking to become the 15th winner for his freshman sire (by Candy Ride {Arg}), was half of the 4-5 favored entry. The dark bay colt tracked pacesetting entrymate Prather (Into Mischief) from third while racing along the rail through fractions of :22.41 and :45.99. He ranged up three wide at the top of the stretch and collared a determined Boss' Dialin In (Dialed In) late despite drifting out to win by 3/4 lengths. A half-brother to Malibu Saint (Malibu Moon), SW, $103,261, Underhill's Tab was a $10,000 KEENOV weanling and a $19,000 FTKOCT yearling before selling for $400,000 after working in :9 4/5 at this year's OBS March sale. Mykindasaint, who sold for $10,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton February sale, produced a colt by Speightster last year and a filly by Preservationist this year before being bred back to Gift Box. Spendthrift Farm's $400,000 OBSMAR purchase UNDERHILL'S TAB (Unified) makes his career bow in this spot for trainer Al Stall. A $10,000 KEENOV weanling and $19,000 FTKOCT yearling, the dark bay breezed in a snappy :9 4/5 at OBS. Out of MSW Mykindasaint (Saint Ballado), the colt is a half to SW Malibu Saint (Malibu Moon). Spendthrift and partners William and Corinne Heiligbrodt will be represented by second timer Prather (Into Mischief). The $475,000 FTKOCT buy was eased and walked off in his debut for Steve Asmussen in the slop at Indiana Oct. 28. Lane’s End 2022 Stallion Roster Topped By Quality Road At $150,000

Lane's End in Versailles, Ky., has released its advertised fees for the 2022 breeding season, led by leading sire Quality Road at $150,000, unchanged from the previous year.

Quality Road, a 15-year-old son of Elusive Quality, is led this year by Grade 1 winner and Breeders' Cup Juvenile contender Corniche, Grade 2 winner Astronaut, multiple Grade 3 winner Dr Post, and Grade 1-placed Dunbar Road.

After a standout debut season for his yearlings at auction, Grade 1 winner City of Light will stand for $60,000 after previously standing for $40,000.

A 7-year-old son of Quality Road, City of Light has been represented by a pair of seven-figure yearlings in 2021, including a $1.7-million colt that topped this year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Veteran sire Twirling Candy also saw his fee increase in 2022, going from $40,000 to $60,000.

The 14-year-old son of Candy Ride was led this year by Preakness Stakes winner Rombauer, joined by Grade 1 winner and Breeders' Cup Juvenile contender Pinehurst, Grade 3 winner Gear Jockey, and Grade 1-placed Dream Shake.

Two stallions' fees will be determined by the results at the Breeders' Cup.

Connect, an 8-year-old son of Curlin, is among North America's leading freshman sires, led by Grade 1 winner and Breeders' Cup Juvenile contender Rattle N Roll, who won the G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland in October. He is also the sire of Hidden Connection, who earned a “Win and You're In” berth to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies after taking the G3 Pocahontas Stakes.

The fee for Liam's Map could also fluctuate by the Breeders' Cup outcomes, starting with a base fee of $40,000. The 10-year-old Unbridled's Song horse has a Juvenile Fillies hopeful in Grade 1 winner Juju's Map.

The roster also includes newcomer Code of Honor, a Grade 1-winning son of Noble Mission whose fee will be announced after his final start in the G1 Clark Stakes.

Unified Represented By Romping Winner at LA Downs

DROP DEAD SEXY (f, 2, Unified–Half a Notion, by Half Ours) became the sixth winner for her freshman sire (by Candy Ride {Arg}) with a dominant debut display. Bet into 49-10 from a morning line of 6-1, the $15,000 KEESEP yearling was driven through by Alexander Castillo to take up the running after a furlong and led narrowly into the turn with three pursuing her from the outside. She began to assert five-sixteenths of a mile from home and widened through the stretch and score by an imposing margin. From the family of MGSW Isotherm (Lonhro {Aus}), Drop Dead Sexy has a yearling half-brother by Sassacaia (Bernardini) and her dam was most recently bred to Catalina Red (Munnings).
