Jumping from the middle of the field and carrying an expensive $650,000 KEESEP tag in addition to Irad Ortiz Jr. is CHP Racing's SPENDALOT (More Than Ready). The full-sister to MGSW & GISP Consumer Spending comes into this race with a consistent work tab for conditioner Chad Brown. Cheyenne Stables bought into the filly out of a half-sister to MSW Pickapocket (Mecke); GSW & GISP Wild At Heart (Indian Charlie) and that one's full-sister GSP Visavis. Ack Naughty Supplemented To Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale; November Horses Of Racing Age Sale Adds Eight

Keeneland has supplemented four horses, including Ack Naughty to Book 1 of the 80th November Breeding Stock Sale on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. ET, and has added eight supplements to the November Horses of Racing Age Sale, which begins at noon Nov. 17, the sales organization said in a release Thursday.

Consigned by Sequel New York, agent, Ack Naughty (Hip 246) is an 11-year-old stakes-placed daughter of Afleet Alex who is in-foal to Into Mischief. Her son Practical Move (Practical Joke), winner of the GI Runhappy Santa Anita Derby, will make his next start during the Breeders' Cup World Championships.

“Ack Naughty is already one of the top broodmares in North America with a promising future,” Sequel's Becky Thomas said. “Her second foal, Practical Move, is undefeated in 2023. He has added multiple graded stakes victories to his résumé this year, and he is sure to be a strong favorite in the Breeders' Cup. Mares of this caliber, in foal to Into Mischief, do not become available often, and Sequel is happy to have had the opportunity to both buy and now sell this mare for Chester and Mary Broman at Keeneland.”

Another supplement is Gambling Girl (Hip 245), a 3-year-old stakes-winning filly by Dialed In. Consigned by Highgate Sales, agent, she is out of Tulipmania, a winning daughter of Empire Maker.

Additional supplements to the November Sale are:

  • Hip 247 is Lady Edith (Street Boss) who is consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
  • Hip 248 is a weanling filly by Authentic who is consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

The November Breeding Stock Sale covers a total of nine sessions through Nov. 16 and supplements to Book 1 will continue to be accepted until then.

Keeneland will begin its November Horses of Racing Age Sale the next day with supplements will be considered until the day of the sale. A total of 285 horses have been cataloged, including eight additions, which include:

  • Hip 4280 is Meow Meow Hiss, a 3-year-old filly by Creative Cause who is a half-sister to recent GI American Pharoah S. runner-up Wine Me Up (Vino Rosso) is consigned by Hidden Brook, agent.
  • Hip 4284 is Tyson, a 4-year-old Tapit colt who this year captured the GII Seagram Cup and the GIII Dominion Day S. and was third in the GI Jockey Club Gold Cup and the GII Eclipse S. He is consigned by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa, agent.

GISW Zandon Powers Home A Winner In The Woodward S.

A groomsman no more. After three consecutive second-place efforts from as many starts this season, Jeff Drown's Zandon (Upstart) finally got his place at the altar with a come-from-behind victory in the rescheduled GII Woodward S. at Belmont's Aqueduct meet.

Not seen in the winner's enclosure since a victory in the GI Toyota Blue Grass S. on the 2022 Kentucky Derby trail, the 4-year-old continued to throw good performance after good performance throughout the rest of last year and into his season's campaign. Just this year alone, he's finished behind the likes of Sunday's GII Vosburgh S. winner Cody's Wish (Curlin), runaway GI Whitney S. hero White Abarrio (Race Day) and MGSW Repo Rocks (Tapiture). Always just a step after some of the best of his generatio, Zandon seemed poised to deliver when bet down to even money Sunday.

Away in orderly fashion under jockey Flavien Prat, the Chad Brown trainee was caught in a mid-pack scrum into the first turn and had to check back off of heels while in tight between horses. Taken back to race a solo sixth, Zandon chased in pursuit of pacesetter Pipeline (Speightstown) up the backstretch as the opening half went in :46.66. The field stayed together with only one trailing runner with four furlongs to run but Prat stayed motionless until the quarter pole when, still faced with a wall of horses in front of him, Zandon began to pick up the bridle. Angled outside of the frontrunners at the head of the lane, the favorite got clear running room and made the most of it, striking the front at the sixteenth pole and opening up daylight on a pair of closing longshots to win going away.

“He's been a horse that's been knocking on the door and he's had a little bit of bad luck running into really, really top horses in some of these races,” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “I felt a little bad for him because he's run such fast numbers in defeat that would have been good enough to win a lot of these races any other year when you really look at it. He's always run into really top class horses along the way. Like I've said before, one thing I'll always point out is even in a lot of runner-up finishes, look at the horses that were behind him. I mean, he's beat a pile of good horses in those valiant runner-up races. This horse is a really consistent horse and has been a pleasure to train.”

“He'll probably have his last career start in the Breeders' Cup Classic,” Brown continued. “Obviously, it's going to be a much, much tougher race than today, but at least we're going in off of a decisive victory and a horse that's had a very consistent year. That's all you can ask for and anything can happen in a horse race.”

Tyson Keeps Punching In Seagram Win

Never off the board in his four prior career starts, Tyson (Tapit) avenged his sole defeat–a third behind Treason (Constitution) in the GII Eclipse S. June 4–with a win last time out over that rival in the GIII Dominion Day S. July 1.

Heavily bet down to 2-5 going for his second straight graded-stakes win, the 4-year-old wasted no time going right for the lead and assumed command a path off the rail ahead of Carrothers (Mshawish). Always under a wrap by jockey Rafael Hernandez, Tyson was briefly headed as he faced pressure up front from that same rival as the opening half went in :49.88. The top pair raced in tandem around the far turn but the grey had another gear left to find and, when roused at the furlong marker, easily dispatched Carrothers and quickly put open lengths on him to hit the wire much the best.

“He's a really nice horse,” said Hernandez. “[trainer] Josie [Carroll] told me, 'Raffi, just play it by ear. It's a small field, just see what happens and try to give a good race to the horse.' He'll do anything you want him to do. He showed up today.”

“It's one of our best pedigrees, one that we've cultivated for more than 30 years,” added owner/breeder John Sikura. “I have great admiration for Mike Tyson, and I thought this is a special horse, so I wanted to name him Tyson. Wonderful horse, beautifully bred and I want to thank everyone at the farm for the great job they've done, and Josie, for being a magnificent trainer and holding this horse together and getting him on the right track. It looks like he's going to be a champion.”

Pedigree Note:

Out of a winning full-sister to both GI Hollywood Starlet S. winner Streaming and SW Treasuring, Tyson counts MGSW Cezanne (Curlin), GSW/G1SP Arabian Hope (Distorted Humor), and recent GI Belmont S. hero Arcangelo (Arrogate) as members of his extended family under just his second dam. Third dam Better Than Honour is responsible for a pair of Belmont S. winners in champion 3-year-old filly Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) and Jazil (Seeking the Gold) along with GSW/G1SP Casino Drive (Mineshaft) and GSW/GISP Greatest Honour (Tapit). Honouring has not produced a live foal since reporting a full-sister to Tyson in 2021 but did visit leading general sire Into Mischief for the 2024 season.
