Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival Will Host World Pool

The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival will be a World Pool event for the first time in 2021, York Racecourse and the Tote announced on Monday.

Held at York, the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival begins on Aug. 18 and lasts through Aug. 21, with racing fans around the world able to bet into a single pool ensuring larger and deeper pools, differentiated pricing and for unequaled value for Tote customers over the first three days. There have been a dozen World Pool days hosted by British racing already this year, among them QIPCO 2000 Guineas Day, Cazoo Derby Day, Royal Ascot, Coral-Eclipse Day, QIPCO King George Diamond Day and the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Over £250 million has been bet into the World Pool on these 12 days. In addition, there has been extra value for customers betting on www.tote.co.uk, with advantages like the Tote Guarantee, which ensures the win price always matches or exceeds the Industry Starting Price (SP), while Tote+ (Tote Plus) gives all customers a 10% dividend enhancement on every winning bet. Across Royal Ascot and the Qatar Goodwood Festival, a total of 38 of 57 races beat the Industry SP.

10 Things to Know About The World Pool at Royal Ascot

In advance of the five-day Royal Ascot meeting kicking off on Tuesday, below are 10 things to know about the World Pool, which will be utilised for the third year at the historic event.

World Pool was created by Hong Kong Jockey Club and brings together racing fans from over 20 nations so everyone is effectively betting into one pool creating huge liquidity. It's like the EuroMillions version of the lottery.
World Pool in the UK is operated by the Tote. You can bet with the Tote at tote.co.uk, on the Tote App, at a racecourse, or with a bookmaker as most offer Tote bets in shops and online.
Without bookmakers' commission to pay, the Tote can offer the best value to their direct customers via the Tote website. Here they operate Tote+ (Tote Plus), giving an extra 10% on every winning dividend–that means a £100 win becomes £110 on tote.co.uk. In addition Tote Guarantee ensures the Tote win price will also match or exceed the industry SP, so Tote customers will never feel short-changed on winning bets.
The pool betting model means the Tote is agnostic about results so welcomes winning customers and will not restrict bet sizes.
The international nature of World Pool means there is some great value to be found across markets. For example, Hong Kong racing fans will tend to over bet on jockeys they know so shorten their price, meaning other runners are over-priced respective to their chances.
There are currently five bet types included in World Pool. These are Win, Place, Trifecta (first, second and third in correct order), Quinella (first two in either order) and Swinger (two in the first three).
This is the third year of World Pool at Royal Ascot with pools growing to £137 million in liquidity last year, compared to £19 million before World Pool.

World Pool means bigger financial returns to British racing through increased media rights payments to racecourses and more revenue generated via pool betting.

Ten to Follow Mini Game For Royal Ascot Launched

A Tote Ten to Follow Mini Game for Royal Ascot was launched by the Tote on Monday. Players can pick stables of 10 horses to compete across the five days of the Royal Meeting. It is £5 per paid game with unlimited entries allowed, with all stakes being redistributed as prizes and pay outs going down to the 500th position in the contest. There is also a free-to-play game with one free entry per person on offer. There are a number of racing-specific prizes for the free-to-play game supported by Ascot Racecourse including:

1st prize: 2022 annual membership for 2022, covering all racedays in the King Edward enclosure (except Royal Ascot)
2nd prize: Hospitality for two on Victoria Cup day in 2022
3rd prize: Two tickets for Royal Ascot 2022 (Tuesday or Wednesday)

Players have until 12 p.m. on June 15 to submit their stables. Points are scored when a horse wins or places and depend on the quality of the race and the price of the horse. The Mini Game has six bonus races which are worth an additional 25 points for a win and 12 points for finishing second. Those races are: the G1 Queen Anne S., G1 King's Stand S., G1 Prince of Wales S., G1 Gold Cup, G1 Commonwealth Cup and the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. 2021 Furlong Factor Open For Entries

Racing Welfare in conjunction with Great British Racing (GBR), the Tote and Sky Sports Racing, have launched the 2021 edition of the pop idol competition, Furlong Factor. Introduced last season, the competition is free to enter and first prize is £1,500 in cash and a trophy from Inkerman London. All funds raised from the Furlong Factor will go toward Racing Welfare's Lost Events Appeal. Entries close Apr. 21. To enter, contestants are asked to record themselves singing into their phone and email their videos to communications@racingwelfare.co.uk or send in by WhatsApp to 07970 631170.

Selected entries will go through to a round of heats which will run from Apr. 26-30. A winner will be selected from each heat, as voted for by the public, and will go through to the May 4 final, during which fans will have the opportunity to back their favourite contestant through the Tote before voting on Twitter to find the grand winner of the Furlong Factor. The winner will be announced live on Sky Sports Racing.
