Florida Champ Chance It Represented by First Foal

Shooting Star Thoroughbreds' Chance It (Currency Swap-Vagabon Diva, by Pleasantly Perfect), who currently stands at Journeyman Stallions, was represented by his first foal, born at Jeff Crooks Olsen and Crooks Acres in Ocala, Florida Jan. 4. The filly is out of Jost Sayin (Big Drama-Jost D'Oro, by Medaglia d'Oro). A multiple stakes winner at two en route to being named 2-year-old champion, he returned at three to take the Mucho Macho Man S. before finishing third in the GI Forego the following season. He retired with $583,330 in earnings. His advertised fee this year remains at $2,000, live foal, stands and nurses.

New Positions For Egan at Santa Anita; Hammerle at 1/ST

Veteran horseman and racing official Jason Egan was promoted as the Director of Racing and Racing Secretary for Santa Anita Park beginning Jan. 27. He served as the track's Racing Coordinator since 2020, and he was named to his new post after Chris Merz announced his desire to take a more expansive operational role in the racing industry.

Additionally, Rick Hammerle will join 1/ST Racing as a consultant. After stops in California, New Jersey and Florida, he was most recently the Racing Coordinator at Oaklawn Park and Director of Racing Operations at Kentucky Downs.

Like Hammerle, Egan is a graduate of the University of Arizona's Racetrack Industry Program. While there, Egan interned with trainer Michael Dickinson and went on to work for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher.

Uncle Mo’s Kingsbarns Runs To The Money For Todd Pletcher And Spendthrift Farm

KINGSBARNS (c, 3, Uncle Mo–Lady Tapit {GSP}, by Tapit), an $800,000 2-year-old purchase by Spendthrift Farm out of the Gulfstream Sale last year, rewarded his backers as the 3-1 favorite in his debut start. Fourth in the early going while racing a path off the rail, Kingsbarns began to inch up into the far turn and found racing room between rivals as the top trio straightened into the lane. Game Warden (Tapit) closed with a run to be second at 19-1 but Kingsbarns was clear into the final furlong for the 1 3/4-length win. Out of a half-sister to GISW Gozzip Girl (Dynaformer), Kingsbarns has a 2-year-old half-brother by Union Rags who was exported to Saudi Arabia last year and a yearling half-brother by Gun Runner. First Foal for Spendthrift Farm’s Yaupon

Spendthrift Farm's Grade I winner Yaupon (Uncle Mo) sired a colt, his first reported foal, on Jan. 13 at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, New York.

Bred by Rockridge Stud, Saratoga Glen Farm and Pete Beals, the dark bay is out of MSW Frost Giant mare Frostie Anne, an earner of $584,443.

“This colt is good sized, born at around 122 pounds. He's very balanced and correct, and you can tell he's going to have a big hip,” said Lere Visagie, owner of Rockridge Stud. “I've had three foals out of this mare and every foal has been better than the one before. I'm quite happy with this Yaupon.”

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Yaupon won six of his eight races including the first four starts of his career in 2020. Those wins included the GII Amsterdam S. at Saratoga and GIII Chick Lang S. at Pimlico, and he was the favorite in that year's GI Breeders' Cup Sprint as a 3-year-old. Yaupon's 4-year-old campaign was highlighted by the final race of his career, when he won the GI Forego S. at Saratoga.

Campaigned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, the son of leading sire Uncle Mo earned $703,264. He is out of the Grade I-placed Vindication mare Modification.

Yaupon is set to stand his second season at stud at Spendthrift for a fee of $30,000 S&N.
