California Horses Of Racing Age Supplement Now Online

Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 59 horses of racing age entries for its upcoming California Fall Yearlings and Horses of Racing Age sale, the auction house said in a release late Thursday.

These entries, which are catalogued as hips 301-359, will be sold immediately following the conclusion of the yearling portion of the catalogue. They include several stakes performers, unraced 2-year-olds with recent public works and 3-year-olds and older horses with current form.

“There's a lot of quality among the horses of racing age entries, and the timing works well for those looking to add to their stables as Santa Anita's Fall meet begins,” said Fasig-Tipton California Representative Mike Machowsky. “Last year's horses of racing age supplement produced two stakes winners, including Ceiling Crusher [Mr. Big], now a multiple stakes winner including the GIII Torrey Pines S. a couple of weeks ago.”

These entries may now be viewed online, including Daily Racing Form past performances, Ragozin sheets and race replays for all horses that have started. Print catalogues for the horses of racing age supplement will be available on the sales grounds.

The California Fall Yearlings and Horses of Racing Age sale will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Fairplex in Pomona, California. The sale will begin at 11 a.m. (PDT).

Talla, West Point Strike for $1.05M Not This Time Colt

Mike Talla and West Point Thoroughbreds partnered up to acquire a colt by Not This Time (hip 879) for $1.05 million from the St George Sales consignment Thursday at Keeneland. The yearling is out of Foreign Affair (Exchange Rate), a half-sister to multiple group winner So Perfect (Scat Daddy). He will be trained by John Sadler, who stood alongside West Point's Terry Finley during the bidding.

The colt was the fourth seven-figure purchase of the auction for West Point, which teamed with Chuck Sonson and Woodford to acquire the sale's $3-million top lot so far.

The colt was the second seven-figure pinhook for Archie and Michelle St George and their pinhooking partners. The group acquired hip 879 for $375,000 at last year's Keeneland November sale. Earlier in the sale, the partners sold a colt by Into Mischief (hip 283) for $1.8 million. That yearling had been purchased for $550,000 at Keeneland last November.

Churchill Downs Establishes New House Claiming Rules

Beginning with the September Meet, Churchill Downs has established new “house rules” for claiming horses, the Louisville racetrack said in a release Thursday afternoon.

The licensed trainer for claimant must have made a start at the current meet or within the state of Kentucky since July 7, which was the start of the Ellis Park meet.

Also, a claimed horse may not race outside of Kentucky for 60 days following the date of the end of the meet during the which the horse was claimed or Jan. 1, 2024, whichever is first to occur.

Additionally, the claimant or licensed trainer representing the claimant must have a signed Claiming Agreement on file with the Churchill Downs racing office prior to submitting a claim.
