Biding his time a bit as the half went in :44.73, the 2-5 chalk swept past the leader in the final sixteenth for a decisive score in the GIII Lazaro Barrera S. Opening his account with a pair of wins, including the GII Best Pal S. in August, Collusion Illusion was pulled up and walked off in the GI American Pharoah S. Sept. 27 when trying two turns. Tiz the Law is ‘A Number One’ in the Belmont

Native New Yorker TIZ THE LAW (c, 3, Constitution–Tizfiz, by Tiznow) was a fitting winner in Saturday’s unconventional renewal of the GI Belmont S., which was run as the first leg of the Triple Crown and reduced to 1 1/8 miles. Heavily favored at 4-5, Tiz the Law stalked from a two-wide third as Tap It To Win (Tapit) seized command with Fore Left (Twirling Candy) pressing from second through a :23.11 opening quarter and :46.16 half-mile. Drawing alongside the pacesetter turning for home, the native New Yorker powered clear in the lane to register a decisive victory in 1:46.5. Dr. Post (Quality Road) got up for second and Max Player (Honor Code) rallied from well back to complete the trifecta. Opening his account with a pair of wins, includng the GI Champagne S., Tiz the Law was third in the GII Kentucky Jockey Club S. in November. Returning to winning ways in the GIII Holy Bull S. Feb. 1, he followed suit with a win in  the GI Curlin Florida Derby Mar. 28. Lifetime Record: 6-5-0-1.

Oleksandra Mows Down the Boys in the Jaipur

OLEKSANDRA (AUS) (m, 6, Animal Kingdom-Alexandra Rose {Saf}, by Caesour) got the best of the boys and secured a spot in the gate at the Breeders’ Cup with a late-rallying victory in the GI Jaipur S. at Belmont. Trailing the field early, Oleksandra bided her time as Pure Sensation (Zensational) zipped through opening splits of :21.43 and :43.52. Launching a three wide big at the top of the lane, she was still left with plenty to do as Kanthaka (Jimmy Creed) took over in the final sixteenth, but Oleksandra kept on finding to mow down her male competitors in the final strides and win by a head. Lifetime Record: 15-7-3-3.

Into Mischief’s Gamine Dominates Acorn

GAMINE (f, 3, Into Mischief-Peggy Jane, by Kafwain) ran them off their feet from start to finish, demolishing the GI Acorn S. by 15 lengths. Going straight to the front from her rail draw, the 3-5 chalk appeared out for a morning gallop as she clocked an opening quarter in :22.48. Registering a half-mile in :45.28, the $1.8-million EASMAY topper turned for home on a clear lead and sailed away with ease in the lane for a never-in-doubt victory. Pleasant Orb (Orb), a 39-1 shot, was second. A 6 1/4-length debut graduate Mar. 7, the ‘TDN Rising Star’ captured her two-turn bow at Oaklawn next out May 2. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0.
