Tiz the Law Breezes at Keeneland

MGISW Tiz the Law (Constitution) continued his preparations for the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic with a six-furlong breeze in 1:13.20 over a fast track at Keeneland Friday.

With regular rider Heather Smullen aboard, the NY-bred colt worked in fractions of :26, :49.60, 1:13.20 and galloped out seven furlongs in 1:25.80.

“I wanted to get him used to the track, and I think he gets over any track better than Churchill,” trainer Barclay Tagg said in reference to Churchill Downs, where Tiz the Law suffered the only two losses of his stellar career. “If he shows improvement next week, even better.”

“The first time he works at a track, he looks around,” Smullen said. “Today he went out and did his job and galloped out nicely. His next work he’ll be more aggressive and that should set him up nicely for the race.”

Del Mar Releases Protocols for Owners Attending the Fall Meet

For the Del Mar Fall meet, which begins Saturday, Oct. 31, all CHRB licensed owners will be permitted on track for both morning workouts and afternoon races. Unfortunately, due to state and local guidelines, non-licensed guests are still not permitted. Owners wishing to attend the races should email or call Mary Forney, Executive Director of TOC (mforney@toconline.com) to secure access, and reservations can be made up until 24 hours before race day. To attend morning workouts, no advanced reservation is required.

On race days, owners must show their license when entering the track and park in the designated area just outside the clubhouse. Owners will enter through the gate on the east side of the track across from the receiving barn. Owners will be required to be on the owner reservation list, provide their CHRB owners license, and undergo a full COVID-19 health screening, including a temperature check. Masks will be required to be worn at all times, and owners must respect social distancing guidelines.

On non-race days owners attending morning workouts must use the vehicle gate adjacent to the fire-station off Jimmy Durante Blvd. The first come, first served seating is located in the spacious clubhouse box seat area. At this time, owners must remain in the clubhouse seating area and may not enter the paddock or the winners circle. Owners are still not permitted to access the backstretch. Any violation of this strict policy will result in a forfeiture of racetrack privileges.

Fasig-Tipton Supplements Include Dream Tree’s Dam and Vequist’s Half-Sister

Fasig-Tipton continues to add supplements to its upcoming November sale, scheduled to be held Sunday, Nov. 8, and the most recent include a dam of a Grade I winner and the half-sister to a recent 2-year-old Grade I winner.

Afleet Maggi (hip 281), a winning daughter of Afleet Alex from the family of GI Travers S. winner Golden Ticket (Speightstown), is the dam of 2017 GI Starlet S. winner Dream Tree (Uncle Mo). Dream Tree’s four black-type wins also included the GII Prioress S. and GII Las Virgenes S. Afleet Maggi produced a yearling full-brother to Dream Tree, who hammered for $335,000 at the recent Keeneland September yearling sale, and is back in foal to American Pharoah.

Voting Agreement (hip 280), by stalwart sire More Than Ready and a winner as a juvenile last year, is a half-sister to Vequist (Nyquist), the runaway 9 1/2-length winner of the GI Spinaway S. Sept. 6. Since second in the GI Frizette S. Oct. 10, Vequist is pointing toward the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Voting Agreement is offered as a racing or broodmare prospect.

Uncle Mo Tops Ashford 2021 Roster on Fee Raise to $175K

Leading Coolmore’s Ashford Stud’s 2021 roster is North America’s leading sire by graded stakes winners, Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie), who will stand for $175,000 in 2021 after being priced at $125,000 for 2020. The Eclipse winner had 19 black-type winner so far this season, led by Girl Daddy, Harvest Moon, Yaupon, Bast.

Ashford’s two Triple Crown winners, Justify (Scat Daddy), whose first foals are weanlings, and American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile), who leads the second-crop sire list by graded stakes winners, will stand for $125,000 and $100,000, respectively. Justify stood for $150,000 in 2020 and the reduction is in keeping with what many farms are doing for the upcoming breeding season in response to the economy’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. American Pharoah was officially listed as private in 2020.

New sires for the Versailles location include champion and multiple Grade I winner Maximum Security (New Year’s Day), as well as Echo Town (Speightstown), who won the GI H. Allen Jerkens S. this summer at Saratoga. Their fees will be determined upon retirement. In addition, Coolmore announced Thursday that popular Ireland-based Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) will relocate to Kentucky for the upcoming breeding season.

“Our established sires have enjoyed great success on the racetrack this year, but in recognition of the challenging times we find ourselves in, we have reduced the fees of all of our sires yet to have runners with the one exception of Mendelssohn, who we have probably under-priced all along,” said Ashford’s Director of Sales Charlie O’Connor. “We have three exciting new additions to our roster and we look forward to watching Echo Town and Maximum Security continue to show their brilliance on the racecourse before they retire.”

Echo Town to Stand at Ashford Stud

Echo Town (Speightstown–Letgomyecho, by Menifee) will take up residence at Ashford Stud upon his retirement from racing.

Purchased by L&N Racing for $100,000 at KEESEP, the ‘TDN Rising Star’ has captured four of his nine starts thus far for earnings of $410,020. The Steve Asmussen trainee scored a career-high this summer when winning the GI Runhappy H. Allen Jerkens S. at Saratoga and was most recently in the GII Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix S. at Keeneland Oct. 2.

“We are delighted that Echo Town will be coming to Ashford. He is a very good-looking horse and Speightstown is making an impression as a sire of sires,” said Coolmore’s Director of Sales Charlie O’Connor. “As one of the best sprinters of his generation we think Echo Town offers a similar profile to our own Munnings, who continues to go from strength to strength.”

“We are extremely excited for Echo Town to stand at Coolmore America,” said L&N’s Michael Levinson. “He has been a star on the racetrack, and we’re confident Coolmore will give him every opportunity to succeed as a stallion, we look forward to seeing his foals hit the ground in 2022.”
