Greatest Honour Preps For Florida Derby

The continuously improving Greatest Honour (Tapit) continued his preparations for the Mar. 27 GI Curlin Florida Derby at Payson Park Saturday, covering a half-mile in :50.20 (3/21).

“He worked nice–his typical work,” trainerr Shug McGaughey said. “I think he bounced out of the [GII Fasig-Tipton] Fountain of Youth good.”

Greatest Honour broke his maiden at fourth asking at Gulfstream Dec. 26 and has swept the first two of three GI Kentucky Derby preps held at Gulfstream: the Jan. 30 GIII Holy Bull and the Feb. 27 Fountain of Youth.

Summer Wind Homebred A No-Brainer ‘Rising Star’

It was a stroll in the park for Summer Wind Equine's TRIPLE TAP (c, 3, Tapit–Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman), who was really only asked to run the final 150 yards en route to becoming a new 'TDN Rising Star' Saturday at Santa Anita. The homebred left the outside stall in a scratched-down field of four without incident and was content to take back to sit in second, as the filly Eyes Open (Street Sense) went very easily on the engine through an opening quarter in just :23.31. Triple Tap was camped on the filly's flank into the turn, passing the three-furlong pole in a tepid :46.63, but he eased past his rival at will in upper stretch and was allowed to finish his race off, covering his final eighth of a mile in a sharp :12.15 before turning in a strong gallop out. Triple Tap is the immaculately bred half-brother to Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) and his dam was acquired by Jane Lyon's operation for $2.1 million carrying a full-sibling to American Pharoah at Fasig-Tipton November in 2014. The resulting foal was St Patrick's Day, Group 3-placed in Ireland, and Littleprincessemma produced a filly to Tapit in 2016. Chasing Yesterday upheld the family tradition with a victory in the 2018 GI Starlet S. and is recently gave birth to her first foal, a filly by Curlin. Subsequent produce include the 2-year-old filly Lasting Tribute (Tapit), the yearling filly Sunrise Service (Tapit), and Littleprincessemma is due to Tapit this April. Read more on Triple Tap from Saturday's TDN. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. O/B-Summer Wind Equine (KY); T-Bob Baffert.

OBS Breeze Show Wraps with Six Bullet Workers

Four more juveniles breezed in a bullet :9 4/5 and two stopped the clock in :20 4/5 at the final day of the OBS March Breeze Show Saturday.

The first :9 4/5 breezer of the day was a Blame filly (Hip 439) out of the unraced Cry Value (Street Cry {Ire}). A $17,000 FTKFEB purchase, she was acquired by King's Equine for $28,000 at Keeneland September.

A colt from the first crop of Gormley (Hip 531) stopped the clock in :9 4/5 for consignor Eddie Woods, who purchased him for $160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Select Yearlings Sale.. His dam Green Eyed Cat (Tale of the Cat)– a daughter of MGISW Critical Eye (Dynaformer)–is also responsible for SW Little Kansas (El Kingdom).

A Carpe Diem filly (Hip 539) registered a :9 4/5 breeze Saturday for Becky Thomas' Sequel Bloodstock. Bred by Chester and Mary Broman, the New York-bred is out of MGSW Hard to Stay Notgo (More Than Ready), who is a half to stakes winners Mark My Way (Noonmark) and Haul Anchor (Bernardini).

Midnight Storm was another first crop sire to be represented by a :9 4/5 bullet breezer Saturday with a filly (Hip 344) from Robert Brewer's consignment. Out of MSP All On The Table (Holy Bull), she was picked up by Paul Neatherlin for $27,000 at the FTKSEL sale.

A son of first-crop sire American Freedom (Hip 461) was one of two :20 4/5 workers Saturday. Out of Divine Happiness (Divine Park), the $110,000 FTKSEL purchase by Marquee Bloodstock is consigned by Pick View LLC.

The other :20 4/5 breezer was a daughter of Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (Hip 547). The bay is out of MSW & GSP Henny Jenney (Henny Hughes), who is a half-sister to MSW & GISP Zeewat (Harlan's Holiday). Consigned by Wavertree Stables, she was a $200,000 KEESEP acquisition.

Bears Watching, Half Bro to Code of Honor, Gallops at Gulfstream

7th-Gulfstream, $45,000, Msw, 3-13, 3yo, 7f, 1:22.95, ft, 7 3/4 lengths.
BEARS WATCHING (c, 3, Karakontie {Jpn}–Reunited {GSW, $326,771}, by Dixie Union) continued to live up to his moniker, building on a strong debut third–two spots ahead of subsequent 'TDN Rising Star' Collaborate (Into Mischief)–in the local slop Feb. 6 to dismantle an overmatched group of Gulfstream maidens Saturday afternoon. Speedy enough to argue the pace through the early exchanges, the 3-5 pick was eased back out of a potentially tight spot to stalk the pacesetters while racing on his lonesome in fourth. Going nicely on the turn and in need only of somewhere to run, Bears Watching was tipped out into the four path at the quarter pole and ran up the score from there, scoring by 7 3/4 lengths over Gran Runner (Runhappy) in racehorse time. Bears Watching is a half-brother to these connections' Code of Honor (Noble Mission {GB}), MGISW, $2,731,320, who won the 2019 GII Fountain of Youth S. over the Gulfstream main track before going on to add the GI Runhappy Travers S. and GI Jockey Club Gold Cup later that season; and Big League (Speightstown), GSP, $318,806. Reunited's most recent produce is a Honor Code colt of 2019.  Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $30,600. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
