Keeneland Beer to Benefit BGFC

Keeneland and Country Boy Brewing of Lexington have collaborated to create Keeneland Spring Lager, which debuts today around Kentucky and will be sold at the track. Sales of the beer will benefit Blue Grass Farms Charities (BGFC). For every case of beer they sell, Country Boy and beverage distributor Kentucky Eagle, each will donate $1 to BGFC.

Sales of the Keeneland Spring Lager and of Country Boy's Keeneland Fall Ale will support BGFC's Back to School Backpack Program, which provides school supplies for nearly 1,000 children whose parents work in Keeneland's stable area and on Central Kentucky farms.

KY Derby Museum Opens Black Heritage in Racing Exhibit

The Black Heritage in Racing exhibit at Kentucky Derby Museum opens to the public Monday, Mar. 29. The exhibit, a permanent display inside the Museum since 1993, documents the stories and contributions of Black horsemen in the sport of Thoroughbred racing.

With support from Churchill Downs and the James Graham Brown Foundation, the Black Heritage in Racing exhibit has moved from the second floor to a larger and more prominent location on the first floor. This allows them to add new components such as oral history interviews and artwork, and provide visitors the best experience possible.

Baffle ‘Em Tops Wanamaker’s March Sale

Baffle 'Em, a 3-year-old filly by Quality Road, brought a final bid of $75,000 to top the Wanamaker's March online auction. Offered by Bradley Thoroughbreds and purchased by Jay Reese, Baffle 'Em was sold as a racing or broodmare prospect. The sale grossed $110,000 and had an average of $11,000 with a total of 10 horses changing hands.

“It is great to see continued growth in our selling and buying base alongside customers who have returned after their previous experiences. While we take pride in our platform, service, and ability to bring a genuine market online, we really depend on those that have been willing to give us a chance as a new player in the market,” said co-founder Jack Carlino.

Entries are now open for Wanamaker's April online auction. Entries will close Apr. 20, the catalogue will be released Apr. 21, and the horses will sell Apr. 29.
