NYRA to Sponsor Saratoga Horse Show Featuring Women In Business

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will sponsor the Saratoga Women In Business (WIB) Spectacular, the first-ever horse show created by women and operated by women to benefit women's health and showcase women in business. Open to all competitors, spectators, and vendors, the show will be held July 13-17 at White Hollow Farm in Stillwater, New York.

“NYRA is pleased to support this spectacular new event designed to highlight women in business and raise critical funds for organizations supporting women's health and wellbeing,” said Joi Garner, NYRA Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “Beyond this sponsorship, we look forward to participating in the event by highlighting the important role women play at the highest levels of NYRA.”

Proceeds from the show will help fund Wellspring, which provides domestic violence and sexual assault services for Saratoga County residents, and Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship Veteran and Active-Duty Military Program, as well as other women's health organizations.

Arvin and Farmer to be Honored by Midway University

Keeneland CEO and president Shannon Arvin and owner, breeder, and businessman Tracy Farmer are scheduled to be recognized for their leadership in Kentucky's equine industry at Midway University's eighth annual Spotlight Awards Thursday evening. The institution, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, was recently featured in TDN.

The night is designed to highlight those who have been leaders in their fields. Arvin will be honored with the Pinkerton Vision Award, which is given to someone who has had a direct impact on improving the lives of women, a woman who has been a role model, or a woman who has shown outstanding leadership or influence in her chosen field. Farmer, a past Midway trustee, will receive the Legacy Award, which is given to someone who has directly impacted Midway University through time, service, support, and resources.

“This is truly an honor, and I am proud and humbled,” said Farmer. “Through my years in business and public service, I have been fortunate to have achieved great success. I consider this honor from Midway University among the top of my achievements!”

Chad Brown Talks Preakness, Triple Crown Spacing On Writers’ Room

Already a four-time champion trainer, Chad Brown became a two-time Classic-winning conditioner Saturday at Pimlico when his Early Voting (Gun Runner) scored in the GI Preakness S., five years after Brown took down the Preakness using a similar formula with Cloud Computing (Maclean's Music). Tuesday, Brown sat down with the crew of the TDN Writers' Room presented by Keeneland from his headquarters in Saratoga Springs as the Green Group Guest of the Week to talk about his decision to skip the GI Kentucky Derby with Early Voting paying off, why he's in favor of keeping Triple Crown races' spacing the way it is, what's next for his other top sophomores Zandon (Upstart) and Jack Christopher (Munnings) and more.

Asked about his recent comments in support of the Triple Crown's current calendar alignment, somewhat surprising given that Brown runs his horses less frequently than average, he said, “I prefer to space my horses out and give them rest, but my answer was really based on the history of the sport. When I got into horse racing right here in Saratoga Springs, I was drawn to the rich, rich history and prestige of the sport. I'm really an old-fashioned guy. I like to stick to the basics. I'm not really in favor of too much change at the top, in the real pillars of the sport, meaning Triple Crown races and older track settings. I don't like changing the names of stakes races. Ironically, I'm in favor of changing things and adapting over time in my training system, but the things that most define the history of the sport, I would leave alone.”

Post Times Set for Belmont Stakes Festival

Post times for the three-day 2022 Belmont Stakes Racing Festival–staged Thursday, June 9 through Saturday, June 11–has been set, according to the New York Racing Association. The Festival, which is highlighted by the 154th GI Belmont S., features 17 stakes, including eight Grade I races to be held om Belmont Day.

Day 1 of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival on Thursday, June 9 is a twilight racing program featuring nine races with a first post of 3:05 p.m. (EST). First post on the 11-race Friday, June 10 card is 12:50 p.m. First post on Belmont Stakes Day, which will feature 13 races, is 11:20 a.m.
