Amo Racing Lose Norfolk Appeal

Amo Racing's appeal against the victory of The Ridler (GB) (Brazen Beau {Aus}) in the G2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot has been dismissed, despite the fact that Paul Hanagan's ride aboard the winner was described by the disciplinary panel as being “poor, reprehensible and self-evidently culpable”.

The Ridler, trained by Richard Fahey, caused interference to Crispy Cat (GB) (Ardad {Ire}) and Brave Nation (Ire) (Sioux Nation), who finished third and fourth in that order for owners Amo Racing and Brian Goodyear, respectively. Amo Racing's Walbank (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) ran second and was unimpeded by the winner's erratic passage.

The stewards on the day suspended Hanagan for 10 days for careless riding in the Norfolk, however, the appeals panel rejected the case presented to them by Amo's Kia Joorabchian.

Amo argued that The Ridler should be disqualified or demoted for causing interference to the placed horses.

The written reasons that accompanied the decision said, “Mr. Hanagan's riding performance in the race was poor, reprehensible and self-evidently culpable.

“His inattention and misjudgement were not defensible. He is a jockey of huge experience [with approaching 17,000 rides and 2,200 winners behind him] and should have done much better.

“It was a bad, high-level instance of careless riding and he entirely deserved a suspension of real substance.

“An essential point to emphasise, however, is that at the end of the day we do conclude that what happened did properly fall into the category of careless riding; and not just simply because, under the regulations in this country, it is probable that no other categorisation is in fact possible.

“In the panel's view the prospect of Crispy Cat having won, absent the interference, was slim in all the circumstances to which we have referred.

“That said, we have in any event in the course of explaining our rationale expressed our view as to the ease with which The Ridler won the race.”

Kingman’s 50th Stakes Winner As Habana Strikes At Baden-Baden

Labelled a TDN Rising Star following her emphatic winning debut over 6 1/2 furlongs at Cologne July 10, Gestut Fahrhof's homebred Habana (Ger) (Kingman {GB}) justified all the hype with an impressive follow-up in Wednesday's G3 149th Renate & Albrecht Woeste Zukunfts-Rennen at Baden-Baden. Globetrotting Star State Of Rest Retired To Stud

Joseph O'Brien has revealed that State Of Rest has been retired to stud after Racing Victoria found an issue in an MRI scan that would prevent him travelling to Australia to defend his Cox Plate crown.

The four-time Group/Grade 1 hero was last seen finishing down the field in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville and the O'Brien team feel that the issue that presented itself in the MRI scan was to blame for that poor performance.

State Of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus} – Repose {Quiet American}) shot to prominence when winning the GI Saratoga Derby Invitational S. before beating the best of the Australians in the G1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley last season.

The globetrotting star also made his mark closer to home when landing a memorable Prince Of Wales's S. at Royal Ascot this season. The 4-year-old will now take up stallion duties at Rathbarry Stud in Ireland and Newgate Farm in Australia.

O'Brien said on Tuesday, “Everyone here at Carriganog Racing is so disappointed that State Of Rest's racing career has come to a sudden end. He was without question a remarkably talented, durable and consistent performer. We asked a huge amount of him throughout his career and he delivered every time.”

The trainer added, “He won Group/Grade 1 races on three different continents in the face of a wide variety of tracks, ground conditions and race tempos. It all came alike to him. He had the most incredible constitution and will to win. We'll miss him greatly but we look forward to training his progeny in the years ahead.”

Ferguson To Re-Offer $1m Worth Of Fillies At Magic Millions Sale

Everyone has done something they have almost instantly-regretted at one point in their life. Be it ordering a round of tequila shots at the end of night on the tiles or simply saying hello to a random stranger on the street because you mistook them for somebody else; we've all experienced such pangs.

However, Rob Ferguson took things to a new level when splurging on 22 fillies to the tune of $1 million over a three-hour period at the National Yearling Sale under the banner of Louis Bloodstock back in June.

Not one person had heard of Louis Bloodstock, named after Ferguson's dog, at the time but he sure made his mark that afternoon.

He has since revealed that he experienced a “medical episode” during the spending spree and will now offer all 22 unbroken 2-year-old fillies at the Magic Millions Online Sale between 5-9 September.

Ferguson, who suffers from a lung condition, was in the throes of being weaned off some strong steroids by his doctor when he went out and made a name for himself at the National Yearling Sale. Unbeknown to him, one of the side effects of this process are feelings of invulnerability and euphoria.

He explained, “It is like having been at the Magic Millions bar all day and then deciding to buy some horses. It felt like a great idea at the time.”

All horses have been paid for by Ferguson and, while he admits that he expects to “take a haircut” on each filly when he reoffers them for sale next month, he can at least see the funny side to the episode.

Ferguson said, “It was just one of those things that happened. I'll probably end up famous because of it. I have had some feedback from a few good judges who have seen the horses and they tell me that there are some nice fillies in the group. So, I may not have done too bad a job.”

He added, “One of the vendors has already offered to buy their filly back at what we paid for her, as they felt she was sold too cheaply. I didn't accept the offer, as I want the sale to be fair and transparent. We bought 22, so all 22 will be re-offered.”

Since the National Sale, all fillies have registered at Di Hannel's Warrandale Stud at Biddaddaba. A vet will carry out a clinical and a laryngoscopy examination of each horse on arrival at the Magic Millions complex, and the reports of the vet's findings will be posted on the Magic Millions sale pages.

Ferguson has decided to offer each filly with a reserve of 50% of their recent purchase price.

He said, “Obviously it looks like I am going to show a loss, as I'm willing to take a haircut on each horse. But it was never my intention to own these horses. When I purchased these fillies I am sure I made a lot of vendors happy. This time around I will probably be making a lot of buyers happy.”

All of the fillies will be available for inspection at the Gold Coast Sales Complex from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday 6th to Thursday 8th and 9am until sale closes on Friday 9th.

For details regarding inspection please contact Ben Culham on 0419 646 860.Entries for the Magic Millions Online (5-9 September) auction will close on Wednesday. For more information contact a member of Magic Millions' Bloodstock team or visit www.magicmillions.online.
