11 Wildcards Join Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale

A total of 11 wildcards, among them four from Coolmore, are late additions to the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale on Oct. 24-27. Coolmore will offer G2 Beresford S. winner High Definition (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 754A), who was also placed twice at Group 1 level; multiple Group 1-placed Wordsworth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 754C); lot 754B, G3 International S. winner Aikhal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}); and Invincible Spirit (Ire)'s son New York City (Ire) (lot 754D), a winner of the Listed Committed S. and second in the G3 Lacken S.

Other wildcards include Wednesday's French listed winner Surrey Mist (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) (lot 754F) from Jamie Railton; Ed Walker consigns Tattersalls October Auction S. and Tattersalls Somerville Auction S. hero Amichi (Ire) (Gutaifan {Ire}) (lot 1139A); Godolphin's multiple Group 1-placed Finest Sound (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) (lot 1011A) has been entered; the winner Flag Flying (GB) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) (lot 1102A) is part of the Juddmonte draft; lot 754E, G3 Mercury S. winner The Highway Rat (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) is consigned by Stragrane House Stables; dual scorer Chairman (Fr) (Almanzor {Fr}) (lot 304A) is part of The Castlebridge Consignment; and Richard Hughes's Weathercock House Stables will send lot 304B, Space Tracker (Ire) (Havana Gold {Ire}), a three-time winner, through the ring.

Baaeed To Stand At Nunnery Stud

Connections of six-time Group 1 winner Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}–Aghareed, by Kingmambo) have confirmed that he will join the stallion roster at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud in Norfolk for 2023.

Sheikha Hissa described herself and her family to be “so proud” of Baaeed's achievements on the track and thanked trainer William Haggas for managing the career of one of the greatest horses of the modern era.

Although the fee at which Baaeed will stand for in his debut season has yet to be announced, Angus Gold, Shadwell's racing manager, told TDN Europe earlier this week that such a decision will have a huge impact on how the horse is received in his first few seasons at stud.

Gold said, “He's the new kid on the block so, hopefully, if we price him right, he will appeal for a considerable time to come.

“There's always a new horse around so that's where we've got to be careful. If we can set the fee correctly so that breeders can use this horse happily, they will use him not just next year, but going forward.

“To be honest, we're still discussing and obviously Sheikha Hissa and her family are involved in those talks, as is Stephen Collins [European bloodstock manager] in Ireland and several people here. We want to get it right and, for the horse's sake, it's important that we do.”

A Shadwell homebred, Baaeed won all six of his starts at three and went from strength to strength this season as a 4-year-old for trainer William Haggas. His triumphs in the G1 Lockinge S. at Newbury, G1 Queen Anne S. at Royal Ascot and G1 Sussex S. at Glorious Goodwood were followed by a breathtaking performance on his first start over 10 furlongs in the G1 Juddmonte International at York.

His only defeat came on his swansong at British Champions Day at Ascot last Saturday when fourth behind Bay Bridge (GB) (New Bay {GB}) in the G1 Champion S.

Baaeed will stand alongside fellow Sussex S. victor Mohaather (GB), exciting first-season sire Tasleet (GB) and Group 1-winning sprinter Eqtidaar (Ire) at Nunnery Stud. His nomination fee will be announced in due course.

Sheikha Hissa said, “On behalf of my family, I am delighted to confirm that Baaeed has now been retired to stand at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud for the 2023 season, where he was born in 2018.

“We are all so proud of what Baaeed has achieved and count ourselves very fortunate to have shared his journey with him. I would like to thank everyone at William's for managing his career so expertly and the teams at Shadwell and Derrinstown for raising him to be the champion that he is.

“His regal pedigree and outstanding conformation will stand him in excellent stead at stud and hopefully attract the top breeders from around the world, so that together we can give Baaeed every chance to prove himself as exceptional a stallion as he was a racehorse.”

Half-Sister To Sottsass Earns TDN Rising Star Rosette At Deauville

Ecurie des Monceaux's unraced 2-year-old filly Snowpark (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}–Starlet's Sister {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}), a half-sister to Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), went postward at odds of 37-10 for Thursday's Prix de Hotot-En-Auge over one mile at Deauville and returned home with a 'TDN Rising Star' rosette after producing an impressive closing burst in the debutantes' heat. Snowpark was swiftly into stride from the inside stall and raced in a close-up third through the early stages. Shuffled down to fifth soon after turning for home, she was shaken up approaching the final furlong and quickened stylishly under mild urging in the closing stages to deny Kamiyah (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), herself a half-sister to G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois-winning sire Al Wukair (Ire) (Dream Ahead), by a half-length nearing the line.

Snowpark is the seventh of nine foals and sixth scorer from as many runners produced by a full-sister to G3 Prix Cleopatre victrix Leo's Starlet (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The April-foaled bay's dam Starlet's Sister (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is also a half-sister to stakes-winning GI Clement L Hirsch H. runner-up and G1 Prix Saint-Alary third Anabaa's Creation (Ire) (Anabaa), herself the dam of the stakes-winning Create A Dream (Oasis Dream {GB}). Starlet's Sister had previously thrown G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 Prix Ganay hero Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), MGISW US champion Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) and MGSW GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and GI Flower Bowl S. runner-up My Sister Nat (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}). She is also the dam of a yearling colt by Siyouni (Fr), a full-brother to Sottsass who was knocked down for a sale-topping €2.1-million at this year's Arqana August sale, and a colt foal by Siyouni (Fr).

Auguste Rodin Heads Field Of Eight For Doncaster’s G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy

Aidan O'Brien has trimmed his overnight entry of eight down to two for Saturday's £200,000 G1 Vertem Futurity at Doncaster, Europe's final juvenile Group 1 contest of the season. TDN Rising Star and G2 Golden Fleece S. victor Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) is the mount of Ryan Moore and has been allocated stall six for the one-mile test. He is set to be joined by Navan maiden winner Salt Lake City (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who will depart from the eight box. The home defence is spearheaded by John and Thady Gosden's G3 Autumn S. runner-up Epictetus (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), another TDN Rising Star who has drawn post seven. Ballydoyle also sends a contingent of three for the two Group 1 contests at Saint-Cloud, with Espionage (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) set to tackle the one-mile G1 Criterium International earlier in the afternoon and Adelaide River (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and Covent Garden (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) declared for the 10-furlong G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud.
