Nico Archdale Joins ThoroughBid as Consignment Agent

Nico Archdale has joined the team at ThoroughBid and will take on the role of consignment agent; responsible for primarily sourcing flat horses-in-training to be sold online as well as building relationships with trainers and consigners. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh and the Godolphin Flying Start Programme, Archdale brings expertise from both training establishments and bloodstock agencies in the UK and abroad including America, Australia, and Dubai.

“ThoroughBid is a really exciting and innovative concept and I can't wait to get started. Horses are always there to be traded and ThoroughBid's online platform offers frequent opportunities for this in an efficient and transparent way,” said Archdale. “This platform can offer more free-flowing international trading as well. I'd like to see it increase the gateway between the UK and the rest of the world.”

King Wins Business Excellence Award at GFS Summit

Gary King, the Senior Vice President at the Thoroughbred Daily News, was the winner of the Business Excellence Award at the Godolphin Flying Start Impact and Influence Conference alumni event Thursday night at the K Club in County Kildare, Ireland.

“The fact that I was voted on by fellow graduates means an awful lot,” said King in accepting the award, which is voted on by the approximately 250 graduates of the program. “A couple of the other award winners touched on it as well, that people recognized what you've done in the industry over the last 13 years. I graduated in 2010, and I've been with the TDN since then. I'm surrounded by such talented, hard-working people every day, and it's such an inspiration.”

The conference brought together 20 years of graduates from the program, an international management training program which spends two years teaching aspiring future industry leaders in various aspects of the field.

Other winners on the night were Annise Montplaisir, who won the Rising Leadership Award; Craig Rounsefell, who won the Leadership Excellence Award; and Tim Donworth, who won the Rising Star Business Award.

Irish, German Derbys Make World Pool Debut

The world's largest globally commingled horse racing pools, created and powered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, will now include both the Irish and German Derbys for the first time on Sunday, July 2. Germany's richest race, the G1 Deutsches Derby, will mark the inaugural time the World Pool has operated in the country and will also be available two hours later for all eight races on the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day card from the Curragh.

“The various international Derbys carry particular importance in Hong Kong across various stakeholder categories,” said Sam Nati, Head of Commingling at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. “These include racing fans, wagering customers and owners, so the German and Irish Derbys are an important addition to the World Pool schedule.”

Auguste Rodin Faces Eight In Irish Derby

Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) will have eight peers to overcome on Sunday in his bid to become the fifth Derby winner for Aidan O'Brien to double up in the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at The Curragh. Among them are the Derby third White Birch (GB) (Ulysses {Ire}) and fourth Sprewell (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), the only runners not representing the O'Brien family with the Donnacha-trained Proud And Regal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Joseph-trained Up And Under (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) the others taking on a Ballydoyle quintet. Auguste Rodin is drawn next to the rail in one, with the habitual slow-starter White Birch widest of all in eight.

Incredibly, Ryan Moore is looking for a first renewal of this Classic and said in his Betfair blog, “If he runs up to the level of his form at Epsom, something is going to have improve markedly to beat him. I am sure the connections of White Birch and Sprewell will fancy their chances of at least getting closer to us on this more conventional track. And who is to say they won't. Different day, different course, different result maybe. But everyone saw the real Auguste Rodin in the Derby, stepped up to a trip more in keeping with his superb pedigree and everyone has seen how strong the form is with King Of Steel and Waipiro coming out and winning at Ascot.”
