Scottish Racing To Resume On June 22

Racing in Scotland will resume behind closed doors on June 22 with a meeting at Ayr. It will be the first meeting held in Scotland since a spectator-free card at Kelso on Mar. 16. Racing is Scotland’s second-most attended sport, supporting 3,400 full-time equivalent jobs and generating over £300 million annually for the Scottish economy.

Nick Rust, chief executive of the BHA, said, “I am very pleased that Scottish racing is returning safely from next Monday at Ayr racecourse, ensuring that our truly nationwide sport can resume in line with the protocols which have been working well since our resumption at Newcastle on June 1. It is a sign of horse racing’s preparedness that we are the first major sport to return in Scotland as the recovery from COVID-19 continues. We are extremely grateful for the support of the Scottish government in enabling this risk-managed return.”

Tattersalls to Host Inaugural August Sale

The first edition of the new Tattersalls August Sale, to be held at Park Paddocks in Newmarket on Aug. 25-26, was announce by the sales company on Wednesday. Comprised of primarily horses and fillies in training, the catalogue will also include some breeding stock and is in a similar mould to the Tattersalls July Sale.

“The decision to stage an August Sale is entirely in response to the unique COVID-19 related circumstances we all find ourselves facing,” said Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony. “We were acutely aware as we took entries for the July Sale that the absence of racing was posing major difficulties in terms of assessing the merits of stock and what was suitable for entry in the July Sale. We spoke with a wide cross section of vendors and it became clear that there was significant demand for an extra fixture to accommodate requirements related to the impact of the global pandemic which has caused so much disruption in every walk of life.

“In a normal year there would be a major yearling sale in the week we have chosen for the August Sale, but with that sale moving to a later date we have been able to react positively and collaboratively for the benefit of all concerned.”

Entries are now being taken and should be made at www.tattersalls.com, with an expected closing date of July 20, but that is subject to change.

Dubawi’s Lord North Sensational In the Prince of Wales’s

John Gosden’s decision to pitch Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed Racing’s June 7 G3 Brigadier Gerard S. winner Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) into Wednesday’s G1 Prince of Wales’s S. paid handsome dividends as the 4-year-old demolished his rivals. Settled in rear by James Doyle early, the 5-1 shot stormed to the front approaching the furlong pole and surged clear to beat Addeybb (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) by 3 3/4lengths, with Barney Roy (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}) 1 1/4 lengths back in third.
