Sea the Stars’s Fanny Logan Takes the Hardwicke

There was a surprise in Friday’s G2 Hardwicke S., as the 4-year-old filly Fanny Logan (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) rolled back the years as a Frankie Dettori-ridden Royal Ascot winner in Sheikh Mohammed’s vintage maroon-and-white silks. Runner-up in Haydock’s G3 Pinnacle S. over this mile-and-a-half trip last time June 7, last year’s G3 Darley Pride S. winner who campaigns under the Sheikha Al Jalila Racing banner was reserved in rear early off the honest tempo. Launched wide in the straight, the 17-2 shot struck the front approaching the furlong pole and stayed on strongly to beat Alounak (Fr) (Camelot {GB}) by 2 1/2 lengths, with 1 3/4 lengths back to Defoe (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}) in third.

Prince of Lir’s The Lir Jet Wins the Norfolk

Having broken the all-aged track record on debut at Yarmouth June 3, Qatar Racing’s acquisition The Lir Jet (GB) emulated the 2009 success of his sire Prince of Lir (Ire) in this G2 Norfolk S. Registering the first success for his first-season sire on fast ground at the East Anglian venue, the 9-2 shot had easier conditions to deal with here and also a trailblazing Wesley Ward runner to deal with as Golden Pal (Uncle Mo) powered over the easy turf. It took until the final yards for the Michael Bell-trained bay to get to the US raider, but Oisin Murphy found the line in time to prevail by a neck, with three lengths back to Imperial Force (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) in third.

Dandy Man’s Dandalla Streets Albany Rivals

Off the mark over five furlongs at Newcastle June 2, Nick Bradley Racing and Elaine Burke’s Dandalla (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) really turned it on in Friday’s G3 Albany S. as she came home alone. Sent off at 13-2, the bay travelled with zest anchored in rear by Ben Curtis as Flying Aletha (Tiznow) cut out the running. Moving between rivals with menace approaching the two pole, she was in front soon after and galloped resolutely to the line for an emphatic six-length success from the 11-4 favourite Setarhe (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}), with Mother Earth (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) a neck back in third.

Khalid Abdullah’s SUNRAY MAJOR (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-brother to MG1SW sire Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) out of MG1SW G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Zenda (GB) (Zamindar), makes a swift return for the John Gosden stable less than two weeks after romping to victory in his June 7 debut over this strip. Burdened by a seven-pound penalty for that success, he is accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s fellow once-out winner Montather (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a Roger Varian trainee from the family of MG1SW G1 1000 Guineas heroine Shadayid (Shadeed), who too carries extra for annexing a one-mile novice heat at Chelmsford in November.
