Racing To Resume In Paris

With Paris having been declared a green zone by the French government, racing will once again resume at ParisLongchamp, Saint-Cloud and Auteuil from next week.

On May 19, eight days after racing in the country resumed behind closed doors, racing was called off by government order in the country’s red zones, including Paris and its surrounding areas, causing meetings to be moved. Racing will still be held without spectators.

Freshman Sire Morandi Off the Mark at La Teste de Buch

Hugues Rousseau and Didier Guillemin’s Healey (Fr) (Morandi {Fr}), who ran unplaced in a five-furlong claimer at Chantilly in his May 13 debut, stepped forward to cause an upset in Friday’s Prix Hyper U Gujan Mestras upped to six furlongs at Bordeaux’s La Teste de Buch venue and become the first winner for his Haras du Mont Goubert-based freshman sire (by Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). Sent forward to lead after a sharp getaway, the 93-10 chance enjoyed a healthy advantage until coming under pressure when threatened in early straight and he rallied gamely once headed by Magic Sword (Fr) (Goken {Fr}) approaching the final furlong to outpoint Sagayan (Fr) (Lucayan {Fr}) by an ultimately comfortable 2 1/2 lengths.

Ryan Moore will probably not ride an easier winner all week as Santiago (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}) spreadeagled the field in the G2 Queen’s Vase. Settled worse than mid-division early, the 10-3 shot moved to the lead with grace two out and powered to a 2 3/4-length success from Berkshire Rocco (Fr) (Sir Percy {GB}), with 8 1/2 lengths back to Al Dabaran (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in third.
