Areion’s Lancade On Top In the German Guineas

Successful over 8 1/2 furlongs at Dusseldorf on her seasonal bow May 16, Stall Raffelberg’s Lancade (GB) (Areion {Ger}) was the one at the end of Sunday’s G2 Wempe 100th German 1000 Guineas back at that venue. An 11-1 shot, the Yasmin Almenrader-trained chestnut was settled in mid-division early against the rail by Adrie de Vries. Angled out in early straight, she swamped her rivals with 150 metres remaining before readily asserting for a comfortable 1 1/4-length success from No Limit Credit (Ger) (Night of Thunder {Ire}), with a nose back to Rose of Kildare (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) in third.

Freshman Sire Coulsty Off the Mark at Kempton

On a banner weekend for his sire Kodiac (GB) (Danehill), Coulsty (Ire) made a mark of his own on Sunday when Eve Johnson Houghton trainee Enduring (GB) justified market support to garner the six-furlong Unibet Thanks The Frontline Workers Maiden Auction S. at Kempton and become the first winner for his Rathasker Stud-based freshman. The February-foaled bay was sent off as the 5-2 joint-favourite coming back from a June 3 debut fourth tackling five furlongs at Great Yarmouth, behind the track-record performance of subsequent G2 Norfolk S. hero The Lir Jet (Ire) (Prince of Lir {Ire}), and obliged in style. Slick from the stalls to claim an immediate lead, he held sway throughout and kept on strongly under urging inside the final quarter mile to win, going away, by two lengths from Mitrosonfire (GB) (Lethal Force {Ire}).

It’s Kodiac Again As Hello Youmzain Prevails In the Diamond Jubilee

The G1 Diamond Jubilee S. was another thriller on Saturday, with Haras d’Etreham and Cambridge Stud’s Hello Youmzain (Fr) (Kodiac {GB}) just holding on from last year’s runner-up Dream of Dreams (Ire) (Dream Ahead) in a pulsating finale. Breaking rapidly before gradually making his way to the stand’s side, last year’s G1 Haydock Sprint Cup hero looked to have been beaten by Sceptical (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) inside the final furlong but he battled gamely to regain the initiative in the last 100 yards. Driven out to the line by first-time Royal Ascot winner Kevin Stott, the 4-year-old had a head to spare as Dream of Dreams pulled off a replica of his 2019 effort, with a neck back to the 2-1 favourite Sceptical.
