Ebendi Brings €165,000 From Joseph O’Brien at Goffs Online

The winning Ebendi (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}), offered through the first ever timed Goffs online platform, brought €165,000 from trainer Joseph O’Brien on Tuesday. A 3-year-old gelding out of Ebalista (Ire) (Selkirk), Ebendi is out of a winning daughter of G1 Irish Oaks heroine Ebadiyla (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) and is a half-brother to Group 2 winner Ebiyza (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}), among others. Originally catalogued for the Goffs Autumn Horses in Training Sale, the Dermot Weld trainee was withdrawn after being cast in his box.

“Following the success of our two recent live online sales, we are pleased to have secured a good price for Ebendi in this alternative online format and are grateful to HH The Aga Khan Studs for the opportunity,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby.

BHA Publishes Brexit Update

The likely new arrangements pertaining to the movement of horses and people to and from the European Union from the UK beginning on Jan. 1 has been published for the British racing and breeding industries by the British Horseracing Authority. The information covers four key areas:

A timeline for the requirements for horse movement has also been created. Additionally, for the latest Brexit information, please visit the Brexit FAQs document and the www.britishhorseracing.com, as well as the UK Government website.

Julian Richmond-Watson, Chair of the Thoroughbred Industry’s Brexit Steering Group, said, “Like many industries, we face a difficult balancing act in light of deciding when the right time is to communicate to our participants with negotiations still ongoing. Nonetheless, deal or no deal, there will be key changes to the way our interconnected industry operates from 1 Jan.

“We are keen to ensure we give participants sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the relevant processes and have aimed to keep the information in as simple, short and engaging a format as possible. Given we still require clarity on a number of key policy areas, it is possible that this guidance may change, but the Steering group felt it was right to be proactive and communicate what we anticipate the likely arrangements to be from 1 Jan. from the information available.

“It remains our advice not to move horses in the first two weeks of January and to engage a shipping and or customs agent to assist you, particularly if you are operating on an individual basis or familiarising yourself with these new processes for the first time. We will continue to press Government for clarification on the outstanding policy areas and communicate further progress to the industry as soon as we are able to.”

Siskin to Stand at Shadai Stallion Station in 2021

Classic winner Siskin (First Defence-Bird Flown {GB}, by Oasis Dream {GB}) will stand for ¥3,500,000 at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan, the stud announced on Tuesday. It was earlier revealed the Juddmonte homebred’s breeding rights had been sold to a group of breeders in June.

He saluted in the G1 Phoenix S. two months later and was put away for the winter. The son of the winning Bird Flown returned at three to salute in the June 12 G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and was also third in the G1 Sussex S. in July. Fourth in the G1 Prix du Moulin later that summer, he was unplaced in the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile and his record stands at 8-5-0-1 and $566,021 in earnings.

Siskin’s dam is a half-sister to SW & GSP Barsanti (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) and SW & MGISP Lockdown (First Defence), as well as the dam of U.S. Champion Older Mare Close Hatches (First Defence), herself the dam of MGSW and GI Belmont S. runner-up Tacitus (Tapit). His third dam won the G3 Ballyogan S. and foaled European Champion 2-Year-Old Xaar (GB) (Zafonic) among others notable runners.
