Ghaiyyath, Pinatubo and Earthlight To Shuttle To Australia

Darley has confirmed the addition of four champions to its Australian roster for 2021. The treble Australian Group 1 winner Bivouac (Aus) will be joined by European shuttlers Pinatubo (Ire), Earthlight (Ire) and Ghaiyyath (Ire), as first reported in TDN AusNZ.

The announcement marks a significant show of faith in the Australian market just 12 months after Microphone (Aus), Blue Point (Ire) and Too Darn Hot (GB) made their debut on Darley's Australian roster.

“The Australian market is going very well and, at the same time, having access to these horses is quite extraordinary. Retiring seven champions to stud in two years, I doubt it has ever been done before. The four we retire this year, Ghaiyyath, Bivouac, Earthlight and Pinatubo, they are the proper, proper articles,” Darley Australia's Head of Sales, Andy Makiv, told TDN AusNZ.

“What is exciting about this is that these are horses that raced in the blue and that we bred, or are by our stallions. To have sons of Dubawi, sons of Shamardal and sons of Exceed And Excel, who are all champions to stand on the roster, it's really exciting for the whole team.”

Tweenhills Takeaway Vans Raise Over £9.8K For Racing Welfare

Tweenhills Angus Burger and Tweenhills Coffee vans were launched at the Tattersalls December Sales to raise money for Racing Welfare by Tweenhills and Qatar Racing. Dawn Goodfellow, Racing Welfare Chief Executive added, “We have been blown away by this generous donation from Tweenhills and I would like to say a huge thank you to Sheikh Fahad, David Redvers and the team at Tweenhills. We are continuing to see the widespread impact of the pandemic on the industry's workforce and the number of people Racing Welfare is supporting continues to grow.  We are incredibly grateful for their support at a time when our services have never been more needed.”

Maurice Filly Lands Hochi Hai Fillies’ Revue

The G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas is on Apr. 11, and Shigeru Pink Ruby (Jpn) (Maurice {Jpn}) punched her ticket for that Classic affair with a neck victory in the Hochi Hai Fillies' Revue over 1400 metres on Sunday.

Sent off at 13-1, the chestnut perched in a tracking sixth as Paul Neyron (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}) carried the field into the single bend. She faced a wall of horses to get through turning into the home straight, but she burst in between horses late and nailed new leader Yoka Yoka (Jpn) (Squirtly Squirt) narrowly on the line. Minnie Isle (Jpn) (Mikki Isle {Jpn}) rounded out the trifecta another length behind. Favoured Opal Moon (Jpn) (Victoire Pisa {Jpn}) was dead last for much of the race, but made up some ground late on to take ninth.

A Hanshin debut winner over 1400 metres, Shigeru Pink Ruby was unplaced in the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies in December and Sunday was her 3-year-old bow.

Pedigree Notes

From the first crop of Maurice, Shigeru Pink Ruby is the second group winner for her young sire after G3 Nikkan Sports Sho Shinzan Kinen victor Pixie Knight (Jpn).

The winner's dam is unraced, but she has already left Shigeru Pink Dia (Jpn) (Daiwa Major {Jpn}), who ran second in the G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas and third in the G1 Shuka Sho. Moonlight Bay also foaled 2-year-old colt Shigeru Rosemary (Jpn) (Silver State {Jpn}) and a yearling filly by Daiwa Major (Jpn). The daughter of Group 3 winner Moonlight Dance (Ire) (Sinndar {Ire}) was covered by Kizuna (Jpn) last spring. Moonlight Dance is a half-sister to G1 Irish Derby hero Grey Swallow (Ire) (Daylami {Ire}).
