Dream Of Dreams “Remarkably Well”

Dream Of Dreams (Ire) (Dream Ahead) exited his popular victory in last weekend's G1 Diamond Jubilee S. “remarkably well,” according to Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail. The 7-year-old gelding was winning the Royal Ascot sprinting showpiece after finishing runner-up in the prior two renewals for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

“We were delighted, and he's come out of the race very, very well,” Raymond said. “His owner was absolutely delighted; he wanted to know if he can keep the trophy so I said, 'no, you have to win it twice.' He just said, 'well, we'll do it next year then!'”

Raymond also praised Stoute's training performance.

“He looks straightforward but he's a horse that doesn't work with any other horses at all and exercises mostly on his own, not because he's crazy or anything, I just think it suits him better,” Raymond said. “I haven't seen him gallop, he just breezes on his own and to do it with a 7-year-old is good, to get him there in a top-class race without a prep run is pretty clever.”

Dream Of Dreams holds an entry for the July 11 G1 July Cup, but Raymond said the Aug. 8 G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest is more likely.

“I don't know [if he'll run in the July Cup] but I would doubt it, I'm just not sure about him going down the hill at Newmarket,” Raymond said. “Maybe the race in Deauville over six and a half furlongs [Prix Maurice de Gheest], we might step him up, there's only certain races we can go for when you've got to stick to a pattern.”

Although the Diamond Jubilee was a 'Win and You're In' qualifier for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, Raymond said that is also unlikely.

“I personally think the horse would get a mile in America, but it hasn't been discussed, these are only just my thoughts,” he said. “I think he'd get the mile in America, I really do, because he stays the seven well at Newbury. The Breeders' Cup Sprint I think would be too sharp for him, they'd be gone.”

Chacun Pour Soi’s Sister To Arqana

The Arqana Summer Sale, which starts its two-day run on June 30, now has a total of 18 wildcard entries after a further seven late additions were announced on Tuesday.

The 4-year-old filly Historique Reconce (Fr) (Lauro {Ger}), a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1-winning steeplechaser Chacun Pour Soi (Fr) (Policy Maker {GB}), is to be sold as a broodmare prospect as lot 327 from the stable of Emmanuel Clayeux.

The remaining sextet are all horses in training, including the Edouard Monfort-trained Parmenion (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}), a winner on debut earlier this season over 2,400m who will be sold at lot 490.

The dual winner Pomahaka (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) (lot 504) will make his way north to Deauville from Christophe Ferland's stable at La Teste de Buch. The 3-year-old colt is a half-brother to G2 Prix du Muguet winner Don Bosco (Fr) (Barathea {Ire}).

Extra jumping stock will be supplied to the mixed sale by three entrants from the stable of leading French National Hunt trainer Francois Nicolle, including Epic Tale (Fr) (Doctor Dino {Fr}) (lot 527), a winning 4-year-old hurdler who is from the family of the classy jumper A Plus Tard (Fr) (Kapgarde {Fr}). Also among the young jumpers on offer is 4-year-old Hititi (Fr) (Great Pretender {Ire}) (lot 505), the winner of an AQPS bumper in May for owner/trainer Hugo Merienne.

No July Cup For Campanelle

Stonestreet Stables's Campanelle (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), the winner of last week's G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, will skip an intended start in the G1 July Cup on July 10 and instead ship back to trainer Wesley Ward's Keeneland base on Wednesday. Campanelle's new target is the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, Ward confirmed.

“We're going for the Maurice de Gheest on Aug. 8, so we'll have plenty of time to get her back here tomorrow and get her ready and get her there a couple days before the race,” he said, noting that the 3-year-old filly came out of the Commonwealth Cup “beautifully.” Campanelle crossed the finish line a head behind Dragon Symbol (GB) (Cable Bay {GB}) at Royal Ascot, but was promoted to the win after stewards deemed she was significantly interfered with by Dragon Symbol, who drifted and carried her across the track in the closing stages. Campanelle was winning for the second time at the Royal meeting, having taken last year's G2 Queen Mary S.

Ward could have another European runner this summer in the form of last year's G2 Norfolk S. runner-up and GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal (Uncle Mo), who will make his first start since the Breeders' Cup during opening weekend at Saratoga and, if all goes well there, target the G1 Nunthorpe S. at York on Aug. 20.

Eclipse Target For St Mark’s Basilica

Dual French Classic winner St Mark's Basilica (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) looks unlikely to have a rematch this summer with Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}), with St Mark's Basilica set to target 10-furlong features like the July 3 G1 Eclipse S., Aug. 18 G1 Juddmonte International and Sept. 11 G1 Irish Champion S.

The Coolmore partners' St Mark's Basilica has gone unbeaten in three runs since taking last year's G1 Dewhurst S., adding the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains over a mile on May 16 and stepping up to 10.5 furlongs to take the G1 Prix du Jockey Club three weeks later. He had the G1 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare back in sixth in the Poulains, and that colt's owner/breeder/trainer Jim Bolger indicated after Poetic Flare's latest win in the G1 St James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot that the colt would stick to a mile for races like the G1 Sussex S. and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois this summer.

“St Mark's is in the mix for the Eclipse; something like that will be the plan for him,” said trainer Aidan O'Brien. “I'd have thought the Eclipse, the Juddmonte and the Irish Champion are all the races we'll be looking at for him. I think at the moment we're happy to keep him at 10 furlongs, but obviously he could drop back. I think that's the sort of plan we're thinking of at the moment.”

O'Brien also provided an update on last week's G1 Prince Of Wales's S. winner Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Last year's champion 3-year-old filly could meet St Mark's Basilica over 10 furlongs this summer, but also has options over 12 furlongs including the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. and the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

“Love is good. We're happy with her,” said O'Brien. “Obviously she's done very little since Wednesday, she's only back cantering again now, but we're very happy with her. To do that after a long break, we were delighted. She hadn't had a run since the Yorkshire Oaks so we were delighted. Anything over 10 furlongs or a mile and a half is her all over. She's in the mix for all those types of races now, anything over that trip. It's great to have her started again and now we can look at all those races.”
