Team Swish Leads Racing League After Week Three

Halfway through the six-week season, Team Swish leads the William Hill Racing League with 188 points. They are 10 points ahead of Team ThoroughBid after winning with The Attorney (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and Menai Bridge (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) later on the Lingfield card both for Charlie Hills. Jockey Saffie Osborne is in front of all other riders with 132 points, one point better than Jack Mitchell, and she was aboard Menai Bridge.

“We are smashing it tonight,” Team Swish racing manager Rosie Tapner told Sky Sports Racing. “I'm going to go over the top here because it's so exciting, two winners and we are flying above the leaderboard, it's great!

“I have ridden both horses, I can't take credit for them but I'm going to tonight. They're such lovely horses, I am so thrilled and Saffie must be as well. She has done amazingly, she's just absolutely flown and we've loved having her.

“We can give it over to Kieran Shoemark and Adam Kirby as well, we've got a great team. I'm hoping we can keep on flying up and if we dip down, we'll give others a chance and then throw it back at Newcastle.”

Team ThoroughBid jockey Hayley Turner booted home Richard Hannon trainee Typhoon Ten (Ire) (Slade Power {Ire}) for her second win of the series, while Team talkSPORT's Mitchell was aboard another winner with Lydford (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) from the yard of Roger Varian. In third place is Goat Racing, and they had a winner with Billhilly (Ger) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) from Charlie Fellowes's yard.

Innisfree Returns on Friday

Aidan O'Brien takes the wraps off the long-absent Innisfree (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) on Friday, with the 2019 G2 Beresford S. winner and G1 Futurity Trophy runner-up returning in The Curragh's 10-furlong G3 Royal Whip S. Not seen since his 3 1/4-length defeat by Kameko (Kitten's Joy) in that juvenile highlight staged on Newcastle's Tapeta in November of that season, the full-brother to High Definition (Ire) faces a tough tasking giving five pounds to the course-and-distance G3 Gallinule S. winner and G1 Irish Derby fourth Earlswood (GB) (Pivotal {GB}).

Also on the card is the 14-furlong G3 Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trial S., where another Irish Derby protagonist in Wordsworth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) bids to get back to winning ways following a string of solid placings in better company. Third in that June 26 Curragh Classic before running second in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris July 14, Ballydoyle's full-brother to Kew Gardens (Ire) encounters last year's G1 Prix du Cadran winner and June 17 G1 Gold Cup runner-up Princess Zoe (Ger) (Jukebox Jury {Ire}).

Princess Zoe's trainer Tony Mullins said, “I'd say she's coming forward all the time, which is unreal at her age. We believe this is not her ideal distance, but it's an ideal prep race after a lovely bit of rain in the last couple of days. I don't see any reason why she won't go to York and Friday's run will have the bearing factor on which race she goes for–that will tell us a lot more. I was afraid if no rain came for York and we didn't run on Friday, then we'd have nowhere. We're not worried about good ground, I just don't want good-to-firm. It was a brilliant run on good-to-firm at Ascot, but we have no desire to run on that ground again.”

Champs Elysees Filly Tops Tattersalls Ireland August NH Sale

A 3-year-old filly by the late Champs Elysees (GB) brought a sale-topping €50,000 from Jeremiah McGrath during Thursday's Tattersalls Ireland August NH Sale. Nina Carberry's Broad Meadow Stables consigned lot 519, who hails from the family of Australian champion Jeune (GB) (Kalaglow {Ire}).

“This is a well-bred filly,” said McGrath. “She has been bought for trainer Lucy Wadham. She trains the Fame And Glory half-sister Game On For Glory, who finished second in a bumper at the Cheltenham April meeting, they think a lot of her. This is a cracking model with some size and scope.”

At the end of Thursday's trade, 170 lots (67%) sold from 254 offered. The gross was €1,062,650, while the average was €6,251 (-27%). The median was €4,500 (-25%).

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “The Derby Sale registering a record average and median, as well as a clearance rate of 86% and 24 horses who sold for over €100,000, was a real highlight and a positive reflection on the premier quality of the Derby Sale and its' graduates who continually perform at the very highest level.

“The sale's top lot, the son of Walk In The Park bought by Noel and Valerie Moran's Bective Stud for €280,000, is this year's most expensive Store horse sold in Britain and Ireland.

“This week's May Store Sale also broke records with its best-ever clearance rate and its' first six-figure sale–a son of Blue Bresil, sold by Rathbarry Stud, bought by agent Aiden Murphy for €115,000, while the new July Store Sale, despite all of this year's difficulties, got off to a strong start with a session of highly satisfactory trade and a top price of €50,000.

“There was an extensive range of buyers involved across all the sales and at all levels, and horses were bought in numbers by Irish and English trainers and agents, new Irish and British-based owners and breeders, as well as point-to-point consignors, who have reinvested as strongly as ever.

“I would like to express gratitude to our clients who have been incredibly patient and supportive throughout, and we can all look forward to a return to the original sales calendar in 2022.”
