ERA Racing in Dubai Sale Topped By Telemaque

The winning 4-year-old colt Telemaque (War Front–Treasure Trail, by Pulpit) (lot 38) topped the Emirates Racing Authority Racing in Dubai September Sale on Saturday. He was knocked down for AED825,000 to Satish Seemar of Zabeel Stables after being previously campaigned by Godolphin and Andre Fabre. Another that went to Seemar was the day's second highest price-Royal Mews (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), a 4-year-old gelding. Out of Queen Arabella (GB) (Medicean {GB}), lot 37 brought AED520,000 and won once at three. Rounding out the top three horses from the 41-strong sale was Al Nefud (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). The gelded son of Albashara (Arch) (lot 34) was yet another lot bound for Zabeel Stables after bringing AED425,000.

Nominations Open For UK GSSS Awards

Nominations for the 2022 UK Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards are now open. Sponsored by Godolphin and run by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) in association with the Racing Post and Racing TV, the awards recognise and reward the outstanding skill and commitment and contribution of over 10,000 stud and stable staff in England, Scotland and Wales. For 2022, the awards will be worth £128,500, with up to £30,000 available to a single yard or stud. Video submissions are also allowed. The finalists will be judged in person on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2022, prior to a London ceremony at a venue yet to be revealed. Nominations close on Nov. 9, 2021, and can be made online by visiting the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards website here.

Royal Lodge Next For Masekela

Progressive juvenile Masekela (Ire) (El Kabeir) will line up next in the Sept. 25 G2 Royal Lodge S. Mick and Janice Mariscotti's colt holds some of the best formlines of any 2-year-old colt this term, running fifth to subsequent G2 Futurity S. hero Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}) in the Listed Chesham S. at Royal Ascot before a short head second in the G2 Superlative S. to Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) on July 10. The latter stepped up to win the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. at The Curragh on Sept. 12, with Point Lonsdale second. Hailing from the Andrew Balding yard which is enjoying a strong year, Masekela was last seen in action taking the Listed Denford S. at Newbury on Aug. 14, with Bayside Boy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}), future winner of the G2 Champagne S., a head back in second.

“He's in good form and he's going to the Royal Lodge next weekend,” said Balding. “The form of his races is working out well–which is always good to see. An extra furlong should really suit him in the Royal Lodge, so we're looking forward to it.”

Sea The Stars Colt Tops SGA Sale

The ownership group of Scuderia Cocktail and Carlo Borsani secured the two top-priced yearlings at the SGA Yearling Sale on Saturday: a Sea The Stars (Ire) colt (lot 93) for €120,000, and a Almanzor (Fr) filly (lot 65) for €90,000.

Offered by Razza Del Velino, the May-foaled Sea The Stars colt is out of the multiple listed-placed March Madness (GB) (Noverre), and therefore a half-brother to G3 Premio Tudini victor The Conqueror (Ire) (Excelebration {Ire}) and G3 Premio Elena E. Sergio Cumani scorer Candy Store (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}). The Almanzor filly, consigned by Allevamento Le.Gi., is the first foal out of the listed-placed Field Of Roses (Ire) (Epaulette {Aus}), who is herself a half-sister to group winners Voice Of Love (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) and Time Chant (GB) (War Chant).

Also proving popular among the bidders was a Charm Spirit (Ire) half-sister to G2 Premio Lydia Tesio victress Call Me Love (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) and the listed-winning Freetown (Speightstown) (lot 66), and she was hammered down to Stefano Pugliese for €65,000. A half-brother by Ribchester (Ire) to the listed-winning Clockwinder (Ire) (Intikhab) (lot 40) fetched €64,000 from Valfredo Valiani, while a full-sister to the G3 Premio Regina Elena 1000 Guineas winner Fullness Of Life (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) (lot 84) summoned €60,000 from Simone Crecco.

At the close of trade on Saturday, 90 yearlings were sold from 117 offered for a clearance rate of 66%. Turnover was €1,777,000, the average €19,744 and the median €13,000. Last year at this sale, 84 yearlings were sold for €1,651,000 for a clearance rate of 64.6%, an average of €19,655 and a median of €11,000. Pre-pandemic in 2019, 83 yearlings grossed €2,423,000 for an average of €29,193 and a median of €18,000.
