Pearls Galore Confirmed For BC Mile

Dual Group 1 runner-up Pearls Galore (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) has been confirmed for the upcoming GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar in November. A winner of the G3 Brownstown S. on July 11 and G3 Fairy Bridge S. on Aug. 26, the Haras de Saint-Pair homebred was second in both the G1 Matron S. at Leopardstown on Sept. 11 and the Oct. 3 G1 Prix de la Foret.

Trainer Paddy Twomey said, “She came out of the race last weekend fantastic and she's in good form. She's going to the Breeders' Cup Mile. She wouldn't have liked the ground last week, she wants fast ground. If she gets a low draw in Del Mar I'd be very hopeful of her running a good race. I spent a summer out in Del Mar when I was a kid and I'd love to have a winner there.”

The Breeders' Cup is also the target for Oct. 8 G3 Cornwallis S. victor Twilight Jet (Ire) (Twilight Son {GB}). Owned and trained by Michael O'Callaghan, the colt will run in the GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.

“Hopefully he's going to the Breeders Cup now,” said O'Callaghan. “It'll be his 11th start of the year. After he won the other day I was saying 'I'll give this lad a break'–but he arrived home the next morning and he told me different.

“He absolutely loves racing, he has a great constitution. He's just a bit of an animal, he loves his job and he's a dream to train. He's won the Cornwallis now and he's danced every dance this year so whatever he does at the Breeders' Cup will be a bonus.”

He added, “If he goes there in good fettle he'll run a big race. He runs in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint and we're looking forward to it.”

Adayar Possible For QIPCO Champion S.

Godolphin's G1 Cazoo Derby and G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. winner Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) might be seen once more this season in the G1 QIPCO Champion S. at Ascot on Oct. 16. Fourth in the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after leading into the home straight, the bay has been pleasing trainer Charlie Appleby since his run in Paris.

“He will be left in the Champion S. tomorrow, for the simple reason at the moment he has come out of the Arc well,” Appleby told Racing TV's Luck On Sunday. “Should connections ask me next week how the horse is, and I say 'jumping around' and they say 'where can we go?', I'd look a bit daft saying I'd taken him out of the Champion S. on the Monday.

“He will stay in tomorrow. We've an open book and should connections want to run him again and I can't at that time give a negative for not to run him, then the Champion S. will be looked at.”

Appleby also provided an update on G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas runner-up Master Of The Seas (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who will run in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. The G3 Craven S. hero was last seen running third in the G2 Joel S. at Newmarket on Sept. 24. Godolphin stablemate and Group 3 winner Creative Force (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) will also be in action on QIPCO Champions Day, but in the G1 Champions Sprint.

“The way the weather forecast is potentially looking, Master Of The Seas will run in the QEII and Creative Force will head to the Champions Sprint. Two handy horses,” he said. “Creative Force is learning how to sprint now. We've seen what he can do over seven. He's been competitive at six and he's still learning. As we all know, dropping back into sprinting divisions at that level it takes a bit of getting the hang of, but he's getting there and he'll go into the weekend a big player.

“Master Of The Seas has definitely come on for that run in the Joel and we're looking forward to him.”

Half-Brother To Torquator Tasso Graduates At Cologne

Holger Renz's €38,000 BBAG September graduate Tunnes (Ger) (Guiliani {Ire}), a half-brother to last week's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), bettered a debut second at Cologne last month with a three-length score in Sunday's Alson-Rennen back at the Weidenpescher venue.

TUNNES (GER) (c, 2, Guiliani {Ire}–Tijuana {Ger}, by Toylsome {GB}), who ran second going one mile in his Sept. 26 debut at this venue last time, was swiftly into stride and led from flagfall. Untroubled on the front end for the most part, the 4-5 favourite kicked clear in early straight and ran on strongly under whipless coaxing inside the final quarter mile to easily defeat Antinanco (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) by three lengths. Tunnes, the fourth of five foals, becomes the second scorer produced by a half-sister to three stakes performers headed by the G2 Diana-Trial victrix Tusked Wings (Ire) (Adlerflug {Ger}). The April-foaled chestnut is a half-brother to MG1SW G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero and G1 Deutsches Derby runner-up Torquator Tasso (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), who also shed maiden status at this venue, and a yearling filly by Adlerflug (Ger). His third dam, Listed Prix Occitanie runner-up Turbaine (Trempolino), is also the dam of Guiliani's sire Tertullian (Miswaki) which gives Tunnes a 3×3 inbreeding to Turbaine. Colin Keane Makes History On Power Under Me

Irish racing's new jockey sensation Colin Keane bypassed Joseph O'Brien's Irish Flat Championship record of 126 winners in a season on Sunday when steering Power Under Me (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) to success in the Listed Hatstone Solicitors Waterford Testimonial S. at The Curragh. Third before being promoted to second behind A Case of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}) in the G3 Lacken S. over this trip at Naas May 16, the bay was third tackling an extra furlong in the G2 Minstrel S. here July 18 and runner-up in the G3 Phoenix Sprint S. over this course and distance Aug. 8. Dropping his level when sixth in the Sept. 25 G3 Renaissance S. again over this track and trip when last seen, the 15-8 favourite proved a relatively straightforward conveyance for Keane's historic 127th by racing near the pace and taking control before two out en route to a 2 3/4-length defeat of Teresa Mendoza (Ire) (Territories {Ire}).

“We've been getting close to it slowly but surely, I've had plenty of seconds in the last two weeks,” the rider said. “It was great to level it for the boss and then to go and beat it for the boss is even better. It hasn't sunk in and probably won't until we start on zero next year and we're looking back on it. We try to beat every year's tally, we mightn't have a year like this again for a while so we'll appreciate it while it's here.”

Ger Lyons commented, “Colin is a credit to himself, his family and the whole racing industry. He's a fine example of what a champion jockey should be. He keeps himself to himself and lets his riding do the talking. You see Billy Lee going over to shake his hand after the race and that tells you all you need to know about the huge respect he has in the weighing room. He's just a genuinely good guy. The industry is full of people trying to make heroes out of x, y and z but Colin has done it his way, the old-fashioned way, his riding doing all the talking. Every winner he rides from now until the end of the season is going to be a record and, you know what, next season he will want to better whatever total he finishes with this season so he is going to keep us on our toes!”

Power Under Me's dam, whose yearling colt by Belardo (Ire) sells at the upcoming Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale, is kin to the dual listed winner and G3 John O'Gaunt S. runner-up Majestic Myles (Ire) (Majestic Missile {Ire}) and the G2 Coventry S. runner-up Parbold (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}). The fourth dam is the GI Matron S. and GI Spinaway S.-winning champion Talking Picture (Speak John), whose six stakes winners are headed by the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Trusted Partner (Affirmed), in turn the dam of the GI Matriarch S. heroine Dress To Thrill (Ire) (Danehill).
