Too Darn Hot’s Darnation Too Good In The Prestige

Newtown Anner Stud's homebred Darnation (Ire) (Too Darn Hot {GB}–Monday Monday {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}) improved off a debut third at Haydock to post an impressive 10-length tally over the same seven-furlong distance at Thirsk last month and made a smooth transition upped to pattern-race level with a game tally in Saturday's G3 William Hill Prestige Fillies' S. at Goodwood.

Positioned in a stalking second after a smart getaway, the 5-2 favourite fanned wide with the field off the home turn and kept on relentlessly under a drive inside the final quarter-mile to prevail by an ultimately comfortable two lengths from 11-4 market rival Carla's Way (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Flight Plan (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) held every chance entering the final furlong and was outbobbed by a head for second.

Pedigree Notes

Darnation, half-sister to a yearling filly by Fastnet Rock (Aus), is the first of two foals produced by an unraced full-sister to dual Group-placed G2 Beresford S. third Exemplar (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The April-foaled homebred bay's dam is also a half-sister to G1 1000 Guineas, G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Blue Bunting (Dynaformer). Descendants of her second dam Miarixa (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}), herself out of stakes-winning G1 Prix Saint-Alary third Mrs Arkada (Fr) (Akarad {Fr}), include dual stakes-winning GIII Intercontinental S. and GIII Franklin S. placegetter Star Devine (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and G3 Earl of Sefton S. runner-up Poker Face (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}).

Fallen Angel Gives Too Darn Hot A First Black Type Winner In The Sweet Solera

Providing her first-crop sire Too Darn Hot (GB) with his first black-type winner on Saturday, Clipper Logistics' Listed Star S. runner-up Fallen Angel (GB) proved far too strong in Newmarket's G3 Molson Coors Sweet Solera S. Denied by Shuwari (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) in that Sandown contest over this seven-furlong trip last month, the Karl Burke-trained 9-4 favourite travelled strongly near the front end under Danny Tudhope before starting the stretch of her rivals approaching the final furlong. Soon clear of the Star S. third Soprano (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), the grey daughter of the G2 May Hill S. winner and G1 Fillies' Mile runner-up Agnes Stewart (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) had three lengths to spare over that rival at the line, with 1 3/4 lengths back to Les Bleus (GB) (Blue Point {Ire}) in third.

“It was very impressive,” Tudhope said of the winner, whose debut success came over this trip at Haydock in May. “I probably learned a lot about her the last day at Sandown, I maybe didn't make as much use of her but the ground that day was very soft and you're always a bit wary of how quick you're going. This filly stays this trip well, she wants a mile now and she may even get 10 furlongs in time. The further she went today the better–she powered clear up the hill. She's just a classy filly who goes on all types of ground and she's got a great mind on her. The future is very bright.”

Pedigree Notes
Fallen Angel is the fourth and currently last known foal out of the aforementioned Agnes Stewart, whose daughter Divine Jewel (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was runner-up in the recent G3 Stanerra S. Kin to the Listed River Eden Fillies' S. scorer Sorrel (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), who was also placed in the GIII La Prevoyante S. and GIII Orchid S., she is related to the G1 National S. hero and G1 Irish Derby runner-up and sire Definite Article (GB) and the G2 Dante S. winner Salford Express (Ire) (Be My Guest).

Observations: Ballydoyle Newcomer Takes The Eye In Curragh Opener

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Saturday's Insights features the son of G1SW Together Forever, the Justify colt City of Troy.

13.40 Curragh, Mdn, €20,000, 2yo c/g, 7fT
CITY OF TROY (Justify) looks a significant member of the contingent for this Barronstown Stud Irish EBF Maiden for colts and geldings, being the chosen Ballydoyle representative in a race used for the stable's past luminaries Rip Van Winkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Roderic O'Connor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Duke Of Marmalade (Ire) (Danehill), Horatio Nelson (Ire) (Danehill) and Australia (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). A son of the G1 Fillies' Mile winner Together Forever (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), the March-foaled bay is a full-brother to the stable's smart 3-year-old Bertinelli and a half to the useful War Front trio Military Style, Absolute Ruler and King Of Athens.

14.25 Newmarket, Mdn, £10,000, 2yo, f, 7fT
RACE THE WIND (IRE) (Too Darn Hot {GB}), one of two Charlie Appleby-trained newcomers in the line-up alongside William Buick's choice Dance Sequence (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), is a half-sister to the triple group 1 winner Cascadian (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) and the GI Summer S. scorer Albahr (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) from the family of Dubawi's Master Of The Seas (Ire). Dance Sequence, who due to riding arrangements may ultimately edge favouritism in the race won two years ago by Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), is a descendant of Magnificient Style (Silver Hawk) whose most famous progeny was Nathaniel (Ire) who made his own debut at this track.

19.12 Chantilly, Cond, €34,000, 2yo, 6fT
ALCANTOR (FR) (New Bay {GB}), who earned a TDN Rising Star tag with a scintillating debut display at Saint-Cloud in June, is dropped back a furlong by Ande Fabre for more experience prior to being tested at Deauville next month. From the family of Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}), Baron Edouard De Rothschild's colour-bearer faces five rivals including the Saint-Cloud debut scorer Havana Cigar (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) representing White Birch Farm and Jean-Claude Rouget.
