Time Test Breeding Right Tops Tattersalls Online Sale

Leading the way at the Tattersalls Online September 15 Sale was a breeding right in first-season sire Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) as lot 27, which went for 85,000gns to Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock. The stallion, who stands at The National Stud, has been enjoying a purple patch of late with his first juveniles and has celebrated black-type success with Group 3 winners Rocchigiani (GB) and Romantic Time (GB), while Tardis (GB) has already won a listed race and Sunset Shiraz (Ire) ran third in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. on Sunday after placing in the G2 Debutante S. earlier in her career. The 9-year-old also boasts Italian Group 3 third The King's Horses (GB) and has seven winners from 23 starters to date.

Ross Doyle said, “He's a young sire going places, by a top sire in Dubawi out of a well bred Dansili (GB) mare which we love. He's been very well supported in recent years and very well managed by Tim Lane and the team at the National Stud. We have bought it for a client who will support him with some very nice mares.”

“It's a great result and a true reflection on his success to date,” said The National Stud's Head of Nominations and Sales Joe Callan. “The Tattersalls Online platform offered an excellent opportunity for a breeding right to be offered on the back of Time Test's recent outstanding results.”

The second highest price on the day was 35,000gns for a breeding right in proven Group 1 stallion Havana Gold (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) (lot 32), who stands at Tweenhills. Haras du Mont Dit Mont purchased the breeding right in the sire of G1 Flying Five S. victor Havana Grey (GB).

Sophomore filly Espouse (Ire) (Elusive Pimpernel) was snapped up for 32,000gns by agent Alex Elliott, who was bidding from America. A winner in five starts, the bay is a half-sister to the placed juvenile filly Azure Blue (Ire) (El Kabeir), while her dam Sea of Dreams (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB]) is a half-sister to group winners Pincheck (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Valeria Messalina (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).

“My mother part owns the 2-year-old half-sister Azure Blue who was very unlucky on her most recent start and we hope could be stakes class,” said Elliott. “She's a filly from a young family that I like a lot who had plenty of ability so I'm excited to have bought her.”

Patrick Cooper, representing Simmonstown Stud, said of lot 9, “We had a great sale. It was all very easy and for the lower end of the market, online is probably the way forward.”

Overall, 11 lots sold from 25 offered for a gross of 188,200gns. The average was 17,109gns and the median settled at 9,000gns.

Romantic Time A Second Pattern-Race Winner in Two Days For Time Test

William Stone trainee Romantic Time (GB) (Time Test {GB}), who snagged five-furlong heats at Great Yarmouth and Sandown in July, stepped forward off a three-length eighth in Newbury's Listed St Hugh's S. last month to pounce for victory in Thursday's G3 IRE Incentive Scheme Dick Poole Fillies' S. at Salisbury. She was an unconsidered 28-1 outsider for this first outing over the six-furlong trip and an attempt at becoming the second pattern-race winner in two days for her freshman sire (by Dubawi {Ire}), following the success of Rocchigiani (GB) in Baden-Baden's G3 Zukunftsrennen. Romantic Time was slowly into stride and raced off the pace in rear through halfway. Making headway and sticking to the far-side rail inside the final quarter mile, she quickened to the front with 100 yards remaining en route to an ultimately snug one-length success from Pearl Glory (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}).

“It's brilliant and I'm absolutely thrilled to get my first Group winner,” said Cambridgeshire-based conditioner William Stone. “Hollie [Doyle] gave the horse a great ride and that was super. The step up to six [furlongs] was great and I think she was a bit unlucky [at Newbury] last time. She got going a bit late there and met a bit of trouble in running, which didn't help her. I don't know what we'll do now, because we came here not knowing if she'd stay six, so I couldn't really look at anything for her until we got today out of the way. We'll just look at different options and go from there.”

Romantic Time, kin to a yearling filly by Tasleet (GB), is the second of three foals and lone performer produced by a half-sister to Listed Chester S. placegetter Top Tug (Ire) (Halling). Her Listed Oh So Sharp S.-winning second dam Top Romance (Ire) (Entrepreneur {GB}) is a half-sister to MGSP GII San Francisco Breeders' Cup H. third National Anthem (GB) (Royal Academy) and a granddaughter of Listed Prix Charles Laffitte victrix La Romance (Lyphard).

Tardis A Stakes First For Time Test at Newbury

Wood Hall Stud's 2-year-old filly Tardis (GB) (Time Test {GB}), who hit the board contesting five-furlong heats at York and Haydock in June, graduated in a July 13 maiden tackling an extended five furlongs at Bath last time and continued on the upgrade with a first black-type win for her freshman sire (by Dubawi {Ire}) in Friday's Listed BetVictor St Hugh's S. at Newbury. Breaking with the tailenders and in rear through the initial fractions, the 11-1 chance made relentless headway from halfway to go seventh entering the final furlong and displayed an impressive array of gears in the closing stages to collar Attagirl (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) by a head in the dying strides for a career high.

“She made a nice debut, but it was trainer error that she was beaten on her second start as I ran her back too quick at Haydock,” admitted trainer Michael Bell. “I gave her a break and brought her back for Bath and gave her another break before bringing her back for this as she's not a filly you can bounce into races. She'd been going well into the race and we'd been very happy with her preparation since Bath. She didn't have the ideal passage through, but she showed a really good attitude and a turn of foot to get the job done. My son Nick bought her and I'm sure he'll have his own idea about plans. She's got black type now and the [G2] Flying Childers [at Doncaster] might be an option. She's not a filly you'd run on autumn ground and she must have a decent surface as she's not very big. I could see her making up into a decent little sprinter next year. [Former stable incumbent] Margot Did wasn't very big and she trained on to win a [G1] Nunthorpe at three. Size doesn't always matter.”

Tardis is the first of three foals produced by a multiple-winning daughter of juvenile scorer Greensand (GB) (Green Desert), herself a half-sister to GII Honeymoon H. vixtrix and GI Beverly D. S. placegetter Country Garden (GB) (Selkirk). The March-foaled bay–who hails from a family featuring stakes-winning G1 Irish Oaks, G1 Prix de l'Opera and GI Flower Bowl Invitational placegetter Mot Juste (GB) (Mtoto {GB})–is a half-sister to a yearling filly by Rajasinghe (Ire) and a weanling filly by Postponed (Ire).
