National Museum Of Racing And Hall Of Fame’s Foal Patrol Season Five Now Live

Season Five of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame's popular live webcam series Foal Patrol is now live online at www.foalpatrol.com. Live footage will expand as the mares approach their expected foaling dates.

Foal Patrol is a one-of-a-kind collection of live cameras following the daily activities of in-foal mares and their foals produced by the National Museum of Racing. Millions of people throughout the world have viewed the popular webcam program since its initial season in 2018.

Foal Patrol Season Five participants are: Elate (in foal to Speightstown at Claiborne Farm, Paris, Ky.), Spanish Bunny (in foal to Uncle Mo at Gainesway Farm, Lexington, Ky.), Traveling Tiger (in foal to Audible at Safari North at Pauls Mill Farm, Versailles, Ky.), Repeta (in foal to Volatile at Three Chimneys Farm, Versailles, Ky.), and Floripa (in foal to Vekoma at Old Tavern Farm, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).

Season Five will feature a new education site to connect Foal Patrol fans of all ages to online resources, videos, and podcasts that begin with breeding and reproduction and span the life of the Thoroughbred. With a page Just for Kids; the Insights videos for youth considering industry careers; online resources about the health and care of the horse; and the platform of Your Stories for viewers' photo submissions and stories of how Foal Patrol has inspired them; the site will feature something for the youngest to oldest viewers. New content will be added to the site weekly from January through June.

A variety of Thoroughbred industry partners have committed to supporting Foal Patrol's educational efforts with regular content, support, and promotion throughout Season Five.

Gun Runner Colt Named ‘TDN Rising Star’ at Gulfstream

American Icon (Gun Runner), sent off at 6-5 in this unveiling after a steady series of works at Palm Beach Downs, led from flagfall to finsh and scampered home to a 8 1/2-length win, good for the 'TDN Rising Star' nod.

Sold as a yearling from the draft of Denali Stud, agent, the April foal brought $400,000 from Maverick Racing, the buying arm of WinStar. He duly made his career bow for WinStar Farm and Siena Farm in the white WinStar silks Sunday. The last horse to load, American Icon broke like a shot and raced about a length in advance of the field through splits of :22.75 and :45.75. A trio of challengers loomed leaving the turn, but American Icon slammed the door when asked by pilot Luis Saez. He poured it on from there to wrack up a visually impressive win. Red Line Overdrive (Nyquist), who broke poorly, closed to take second. The same connections were represented by 'Rising Star' Emmanuel (More Than Ready) at Gulfstream Dec. 11. American Idol is the third of his sire's produce to become a 'Rising Star.'

American Idol's MSP dam is a full-sister to SW and GI Santa Anita Oaks second Third Dawn (Sky Mesa). Sky America has a weanling colt by Runhappy and was covered by the winner's sire this spring. The third dam, the unraced Sunset Heat (Dixieland Band), was a full-sister to Grade III winner and sire Dixieland Heat (Dixieland Band). Sunset Heat left Brazilian Group 2 winner Estrela Byrnhild (Lion Cavern), who was also placed in the G1 Roberto e Nelson Grimaldi Seabra.

Season 5 of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame's popular live webcam series Foal Patrol will debut online at www.foalpatrol.com on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.

Season 5 will feature in-foal mares at Claiborne Farm, Gainesway Farm, Safari North at Pauls Mill Farm, and Three Chimneys Farm — all based in Kentucky — and Old Tavern Farm in New York.

Foal Patrol is a one-of-a-kind collection of live cameras following the daily activities of in-foal mares produced by the National Museum of Racing. Millions of people throughout the world have viewed the popular webcam program since its initial launch in late 2017.

Here is a closer look at the Foal Patrol Season 5 participants:

Elate (Claiborne Farm, Paris, Ky.)

In foal to WinStar Farm stallion Speightstown, Elate is an 8-year-old dark bay daughter of Medaglia d'Oro out of the Distorted Humor mare Cheery.

She was bred and campaigned by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider and trained throughout her four-year career by Hall of Famer Bill Mott. After breaking her maiden in her career debut and only start as a 2-year-old at Aqueduct in November 2016, Elate won back-to-back Grade 1s in the Alabama Stakes and Beldame Stakes as a sophomore. As a 4-year-old in 2018, she won the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap and placed in the Personal Ensign. In her final season, Elate won the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap and repeated in the Delaware Handicap (a Grade 2 in 2018). She also finished second in the Azeri, Personal Ensign, and Spinster. Overall, Elate posted a record of 7-7-2 from 19 starts and earned more than $2.6 million.

Elate has delivered one foal to date, a dark bay filly by War Front, in 2021. Her foal by Speightstown has an expected due date of March 13, 2022.

Spanish Bunny (Gainesway Farm, Lexington, Ky.)

In foal to Coolmore stallion Uncle Mo, Spanish Bunny is a 15-year-old bay daughter of Unusual Heat out of the El Gran Senor mare Spanish Beam. Purchased by Gainesway for $130,000 at the 2015 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, Spanish Bunny made 20 starts in her career from 2008 through 2011. Her lone victory was at Del Mar in 2010. She competed exclusively in California.

Of her six foals to date, Spanish Bunny has produced four starters, including Grade 1 winner Spanish Queen (2015 American Oaks) and multiple stakes winner Spanish Loveaffair. Her foal by Uncle Mo has an expected due date of Feb. 2, 2022.

Traveling Tiger (Safari North at Pauls Mill Farm, Versailles, Ky.)

In foal to WinStar Farm stallion Audible, Traveling Tiger is a 6-year-old bay daughter of Candy Ride out of the Stormy mare Atlantic Voyage. Purchased by Susan Moulton's Safari North at Pauls Mill Farm for $40,000 at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, Traveling Tiger was unplaced in her only two career starts at Penn National in 2019.

Traveling Tiger has delivered one foal to date, a chestnut colt by Good Magic, in 2021. Her foal by Audible has an estimated due date of late January 2022.

Repeta (Three Chimneys Farm, Midway, Ky.)

In foal to Three Chimneys Farm freshman sire Volatile, Repeta is an 11-year-old daughter of Broken Vow out of the Atticus mare Attico. Bred by Wertheimer et Frere, Repeta was unraced. She was purchased by Mulholland Springs for $70,000 at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Of her six foals to date, Repeta has produced four starters, including three winners. Her foal by Volatile has an estimated due date of late March or early April 2022.

Floripa (Old Tavern Farm, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.)

In foal to Spendthrift Farm stallion Vekoma, Floripa is an 8-year-old gray or roan daughter of Tapit out of the Dixieland Band mare Southern Sonata. Unplaced in seven career starts, Floripa was purchased for $57,000 by Old Tavern Farm at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Floripa has delivered two foals to date, including one winner. Her foal by Vekoma has an expected due date of May 5, 2022.

Gun Runner Sets All-Time Earnings Record For First-Crop Sire

Three Chimneys' Gun Runner, the 2017 Horse of the Year and the Leading Sire of Two Year Olds worldwide as well as the Leading Freshman Sire in 2021, has established an all-time progeny earnings record for a first crop sire, eclipsing super sire Uncle Mo's first crop earnings record established in 2015. To put the significance of this accomplishment into perspective, Uncle Mo's first crop earnings surpassed the previous record established by the legendary Tapit back in 2008.

The previous first crop progeny earnings record of $3,670,354 as reported by the Blood-Horse and $3,717,490 as reported by the TDN, was surpassed today when the Tom Amoss-trained Shotgun Hottie won a $92,000 MSW race at Churchill, becoming winner number 22, boosting Gun Runner's earnings over $3.8 million. Gun Runner's milestone earnings record mirrors that of Uncle Mo's, having sired two Grade 1 winners including a Breeders' Cup champion. Their records differ, however, in that Gun Runner has sired one more graded stakes winner than Uncle Mo, with fewer starters.

“Gun Runner's record start at stud is a crowning achievement for the farm and its philosophy.” said Three Chimneys' owner Gonçalo Torrealba. “To surpass a record established by Uncle Mo, and Tapit previous to that, clearly compares Gun Runner favorably at this point in time with two of the most influential sires at stud today.
