1/ST Technology Pairs With Bet365

1/ST TECHNOLOGY has partnered with Tier-1 operator bet365 to deliver horse racing to that company's U.S. customers via 1/ST BET, The Stronach Group said in a Wednesday release.

The partnership will power the stateside launch of bet365's Advance Deposit Wagering on horse racing, across web and mobile app channels, in U.S. jurisdictions where ADW is accepted.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to partner with one of the premier brands in sports betting and for 1/ST BET to showcase its best-in-class pari-mutuel horse racing wagering experience to bet365's customers,” said Keith Johnson, Chief Revenue Officer, 1/ST TECHNOLOGY.

Wagering on U.S. Races Declines in February

Wagering on U.S. races dipped 2.85% in February, with 11 fewer racing dates, in year-to-year comparisons released Tuesday by Equibase, while through two months of 2024, wagering is down 6.83% with 59 fewer race days than the same period in 2023. Wagering in February totaled $838,195,585, compared to $862,782,585 in February, 2023. Through two months, a total of $1,618,055,698 was wagered in U.S. races. That figure was $1,736,625,054 after two months of 2023.

While available purse money increased 6.44% to $86,413,218 in February, that figure year-to-date is down 4.03% to $164,357,301.

There were 252 race days in February, compared to 263 in 2023, bringing the year-to-date total to 469 versus 528 a year ago. There were 4,007 races in January and February, compared to 4,508 during that period in 2023.

Average field size rose slightly during the first two months of the year, from 7.66 in 2023 to 7.77 in 2024.

Letter to the Editor: ‘Time to Roll Up Our Sleeves’

Picture waking up to a world where our beloved industry doesn't exist. This thought isn't just a scare tactic; it's a serious wake-up call about what's at stake–our jobs, our skills and the legacy many families have built over generations.

Our industry, known for its grit and passion, is facing serious threats, both from inside and out. And yet, we've been too comfortable, too stuck in our ways, too scared to change.

We've heard the tough feedback, and it's not all unwarranted. Claims that we lack emotional maturity and are stuck in our ways beg us to take a hard look in the mirror.

Is it that we can't handle the tough, honest conversations necessary for growth or have we just been taking the easy way out?

Our future depends on us coming together, being open to change and facing the hard truths. Leadership needs to be about collaboration and empowering everyone.

We can't let those who love to see us divided win. It's time to show the doubters what we're really made of, not with just words, but with action.

We're at a crucial point. The choices we make now will shape the future of Thoroughbred racing.

Let's make the smart choice and take bold steps forward. The clock is ticking, and we've got too much to lose.

Holding on to the hope that being underestimated is our secret weapon–they won't know what hit them. Time to roll up our sleeves and show them they're wrong!

Horseshoe Indianapolis Adjusts Post Times, Race Days Due to Extreme Heat

Horseshoe Indianapolis has moved up its first post Wednesday to 10 a.m. and has moved its entire Thursday card to next Monday due to excessive heat warnings for Central Indiana this week.

“Safety for our equine athletes and all the individuals who work outdoors during our racing program always comes first at Horseshoe Indianapolis,” said Eric Halstrom, Vice President and General Manager of Racing. “After reviewing weather predictions for this week that includes excessive heat warnings, we want to be proactive and get the necessary changes in place. We wanted to avoid any cancellations of racing days as our horsemen work hard to get their horses ready to race and a cancellation directly impacts their business operations. We feel by moving post times and racing dates, it should be a better environment for everyone involved.”

Live racing will go on as planned Tuesday, with its scheduled 2:30 p.m. first post time.
