TERF Grants $16,000 to PA’s Wilson College

The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) has awarded $16,000 to Pennsylvania's Wilson College for four $4,000 scholarships for students with equine and animal-related majors. The recipients are Kaylee Bill (veterinary nursing); Drew Stevens (equestrian studies); Natalie Cowdrick (equestrian studies); and Rebekka Visniesky (veterinary nursing).

Since 2015, 22 students have been awarded TERF scholarships based on student need, scholastic achievement, and equine-related aspirations. For more information, visit terfusa.org.

TERF Awards $100,500 in Grants

The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) has awarded $100,500 in grants to 12 organizations. With the vision and mission of bettering the life of Thoroughbred, TERF primarily aims to support students in pursuit of education in Equine Medicine and to fund research efforts which better the life of the Thoroughbred horse.

To fund scholarships and education, $10,000 was awarded to the Belmont Child Care Association, Inc., $2,500 to Amplify Horse Racing, $12,000 to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, $4,000 to the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue, $5,000 to the Retired Race Horse Project, $5,000 to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, $4,000 to the University of Minnesota Foundation, $10,000 to the Maryland Horse Industry Foundation, $14,000 to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, $16,000 to Wilson College and $4,000 was awarded to HorseMen U. Additionally, $14,000 was awarded to the Foundation for the Horse, the charitable arm of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), to fund a graduate student/resident research grant.

MD Horse Foundation Receives TERF Grant

The Maryland Horse Foundation has received a grant from the Thoroughbred Education & Research Foundation, a fund of the Chester County Community Foundation for educational programs.

“We are thrilled to receive this funding and grateful to the TERF Trustees for considering our application” said Jordyn Egan, MHF director of development. “TERF has been a great partner in the past and this support allows us to work creatively with people that are committed to a career in the Maryland Thoroughbred industry.”

TERF Grant Applications Open, Due Apr. 1

The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation announced the opening of their 2021 grant awards cycle. This year's grant awards will reflect TERF's strategic focus and vision to support and promote equine education and research. Awards will be considered for qualified federally tax exempt 501-c-3 organizations. Information regarding the grant award program can be found at www.terfusa.org. Grant applications will be accepted through Apr. 1.

Grant recipients will receive written notice of TERF's acceptance of their funding request and/or notice via phone or e-mail by no later than July 15 of the application year. In 2020, TERF awarded $108,000 in grants to nine organizations.

Headed by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis, TERF's current Board, includes co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM, and James Orsini, DVM, Margaret H. Duprey, Gretchen and Roy Jackson, Ellen and Herb Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Scott Palmer VMD, Josh Pons and Lucy Zungailia.
