Finley Elected to The Jockey Club Board of Stewards; Highet Reelected

West Point Thoroughbreds President and Chief Executive Terry Finley has been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, it was announced Monday. He fills the expired position of Vinnie Viola. Ian D. Highet, a steward of The Jockey Club, was reelected to the board.

Finley, who has been a member of The Jockey Club since 2019, at the helm of West Point campaigned either solely or in partnership Horse of the Year Flightline (Tapit), GI Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming (Bodemeister), and a number of other Grade I winners. Finley also serves as chairman of the New York Race Track Chaplaincy, the board of directors for the Thoroughbred Charities of America and New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, and the board of trustees for the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

The other members of the Jockey Club Board of Stewards are Barbara Banke, Dr. Larry Bramlage, Louis A. Cella, William S. Farish Jr., Stuart S. Janney III (chair), William M. Lear Jr., and R. Alex Rankin.

TCA Hosts ‘Bid On The Bluegrass’ Online Auction

Halters worn by Kentucky Derby starters including Forte (Violence), Kingsbarns (Uncle Mo), Tapit Trice (Tapit), Angel of Empire (Classic Empire), and Two Phil's (Hard Spun) will be just some of the items listed during this year's Thoroughbred Charities of America's 'Bid on the Bluegrass' online auction, the organization said in a release Wednesday.

Set to open on Thursday, May 4 at 9 a.m. and conclude on Saturday, May 6 at 9 p.m. E.T., all proceeds will benefit TCA.

“Bid on the Bluegrass will feature a wide array of items with a Kentucky focus,” said Erin Halliwell executive director of TCA. “We have bourbon-themed items, racing memorabilia, one-of-a-kind experiences, halters worn by Kentucky Derby starters, and much more. We are very grateful to all of our item donors for making this auction possible.”

TCA Named Beneficiary of Derby Handicapping Event

Thoroughbred Charities of America has been named the charitable beneficiary of the Derby Dozen handicapping event, presented by In the Money, to be held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville May 4 from 7-9 p.m. ET.

Professional handicappers Peter Fornatale, Jonathon Kinchen, and Maggie Wolfendale-Morley will take a deep dive into the analysis of the 2023 Kentucky Oaks and Derby starters as well as explore some of the best bets in some of the other races at Churchill Downs.

“TCA is honored to be selected as the charitable beneficiary for this exciting Derby week event,” said Erin Halliwell executive director of TCA. “We look forward to hearing from Peter, Jonathon, and Maggie about the field of runners in the Oaks and Derby, while raising money for TCA's approved grant recipients working in Thoroughbred aftercare and health and human services for backstretch and farm employees. We appreciate the Galt House's support of TCA.”

Tickets may be purchased here and will include admission to the event as well as food and beverage.
