Repole Pledges Matching TAA Donation

Owner Mike Repole has pledged to match donations to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance up to $100,000 throughout the month of January.

“Every Thoroughbred athlete deserves an enjoyable and quality retirement. I am honored to support Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and their mission of accredited aftercare,” said Repole. “I encourage others to join me in making a charitable donation during the month when Thoroughbreds celebrate their birthdays. Let us all raise awareness and do our part in ensuring these athletes receive the best, well-deserved protection as they transition beyond the finish line. It is our responsibility, and we all owe it to these amazing loving Thoroughbred athletes.”

To help spread awareness of the matching campaign for the month, TAA and Repole Stable encourage anyone with a registered Thoroughbred–whether still racing, bred to race, or retired–to contribute to the campaign, capture the celebratory moment with a photo of their Thoroughbred, and use the hashtag #TbredBDAY2024 to post to social media.

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that accredits, inspects, and awards grants to approved aftercare organizations to retrain, retire, and rehome Thoroughbreds using industry-wide funding. Along with continued funding from its original partners Breeders' Cup, The

Jockey Club, and Keeneland Association, TAA is supported by owners, trainers, breeders, racetracks, aftercare professionals, and other industry members. Since inception in 2012, TAA has granted more than $31.9 million to accredited aftercare

organizations. Currently 86 aftercare organizations comprised of approximately 180 facilities across North America have been granted accreditation.

“The best moment from 2023 was the confirmation that the state of New York would be loaning NYRA nearly half a billion dollars to build a modern Belmont Park. I'd rate this occurrence as possibly the most positive development in the sport since the founding of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. The seeds of this were planted in the years before VLT revenue started flowing in New York and it was decided NYRA wanted a slice of that revenue to go to a capital expenditure fund instead of just diverting it all to purses. That foresight was so very necessary. The future of the sport in New York is bright and that's monumentally important for every other stakeholder in the sport.”

Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Partners With Hallway Feeds

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance announced a new partnership with Lexington, Kentucky-based equine feed manufacturer Hallway Feeds, the organization said in a release Friday.

Family-owned and operated by the Hall Family since 1964, the company is prepared to make a major financial commitment to accredited Thoroughbred aftercare through this collaboration. Select Hallway Feeds bags will proudly feature the 'Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Proud Supporter' Seal. In addition, the partnership will include race presentations and event booths.

TAA Grants $3.8 Million To Accredited Organizations For 2023

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) has awarded over $3.8 million as grants to 86 Thoroughbred aftercare organizations that currently hold Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accreditation for 2023. In total, the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance has now granted over $31.9 million earmarked specifically for equine care. These funds have been directed to Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance-accredited organizations, which, through their collective efforts, have successfully retrained, retired, and rehomed over 16,500 Thoroughbreds across approximately 180 facilities.

“Congratulations to the 86 accredited organizations for receiving grants from Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance this year,” said TAA Accreditation and Grants Manager Janice Towles. “These organizations exemplify exceptional equine care, and we take great pride in supporting their efforts in retraining, retiring, and rehoming Thoroughbreds. As they persist in their tireless care for retired racehorses, Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance's essential funding serves as a valuable resource, helping them to carry out their important work.”
