Born To Sea’s Tulipa Chope Best In the Reservoirs

Having beaten the subsequent G3 Prix des Chenes winner Zabiari (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in the Listed Criterium du FEE at Deauville in August, Alain Jathiere's Tulipa Chope (Fr) (Born To Sea {Ire}) took the next step up the ladder in her stride when returning to Normandy to capture Wednesday's G3 Prix des Reservoirs. Settled in behind the leader early by Theo Bachelot, the Stephane Wattel-trained bargain €5,000 Osarus September graduate was travelling best turning in and tanked her way to the front two out. Chased to the line by the Wertheimers' TDN Rising Star Aventure (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), the 2-1 second favourite had first run on that 17-10 market-leader and was not for catching as she registered a 1 1/4-length success.

“We intended to run her in the [G1 Prix Marcel] Boussac, but passed on it because I felt at that point that she was not as well as I would have hoped,” Wattel said of the winner, who was also third behind the subsequent Boussac third Les Pavots (Ire) (No Nay Never) in Vichy's Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles in July. “After watching the Boussac, I had no regrets. She had been off since August and it is always a concern to return after such a long break, but her last piece of work was excellent so we hoped she would run well. You will see her again next year in the [G3] Prix de la Grotte.”

Pedigree Notes
Tulipa Chope is out of Tulipe Rouge (Fr) (Panis), who emanates from The Aga Khan's “V” family which features, among others, the G1 Prix de Diane heroine Valyra (GB) (Azamour {Ire}), the G1 Queen Anne S. and G1 Prix d'Ispahan hero Valixir (Ire) (Trempolino) and the GI Breeders' Cup Mile winner Val Royal (Fr) (Royal Academy). Her yearling filly Winne Chope (Fr) is by Gutaifan (Ire).

Myboycharlie’s Lastotchka Slays Gladiateur Rivals

In the money in three stakes outings since closing last term with a career high in Saint-Cloud's G3 Prix Belle de Nuit, Jean-Marie Beguigne trainee Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}–Muthla {Fr}, by Muhtathir {GB}) regained the winning thread and doubled her pattern-race haul by dominating the closing stages of Sunday's G3 Prix Gladiateur at ParisLongchamp.

The 16-5 chance was quickly into stride to race second passing the judge first time and found a comfortable rhythm in third along the backstraight. Taking closer order on the home turn before claiming the lead in early straight, she was safely clear approaching the final furlong and stayed on strongly under continued rousting to easily hold closest pursuer Fasol (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) by two lengths. Vert Liberte (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}) was 1 3/4 lengths away in third, denying Moon Wolf (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) by a nose in a bobbing finish for third. According to jockey Theo Bachelot, Lastotchka lost her off fore shoe soon after the start.

“She is such a sweet and consistent filly, she stays well and proved it on many occasions last season, such as when winning a Group 3 over 14 furlongs at Saint-Cloud,” said Beguigne. “She has been a bit slow to come around and be at her best this season, but her last run in Deauville did her a lot of good. I will let her recover from her efforts today and have her ready again for the [Oct. 29] G1 Prix Royal-Oak [over this course and distance].”

Pedigree Notes
Lastotchka, a half-sister to the unraced 2-year-old colt Majestic Glory (Fr) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), is the first foal out of Muthla (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}), whose second dam Colza (Alleged) produced G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Linda's Lad (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and G3 Badener Meile placegetter Ulterior Motives (GB) (Selkirk). Descendants of the April-foaled bay's stakes-winning fourth dam Dockage (Riverman) include G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning sire Rail Link (GB) (Dansili {GB}), Rail Link's G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris-winning half-brother Crossharbour (GB) (Zamindar) and G1 Derby, G1 St Leger and G1 Gold Cup runner-up Mojo Star (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).

Tamayuz Colt In Command At Chantilly

Having witnessed their filly Rosacea (Ire) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) overcoming a horror draw to be third in the G1 Prix de Diane, Haras de la Perelle and Stephane Wattel's Sunday at Chantilly got even better as Simca Mille (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) recorded an authoritative success in the G3 Prix du Lys Longines. Off the mark at the fifth attempt in a 9 1/2-furlong handicap on the Polytrack here Apr. 20, the chestnut had bounded to a straightforward win over another two furlongs at Angers at the end of last month and was awarded due respect as the 3-1 second favourite for this Grand Prix de Paris prep. Allowed ample breathing room on the front end from the outset under Theo Bachelot, the homebred was in complete control in early straight and settled the outcome with a 11.32 split from the two to the one. Maintaining to the line, he had 3 1/2 lengths to spare over Virtual Rock (Ire) (Fascinating Rock {Ire}), with the 17-10 favourite Martel (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) a neck behind in third having been asked too big a question.

“This horse has a unique blend of speed and stamina,” Wattel said. “He had won easily in the provinces, but it was hard to imagine that he could be as impressive as he has been in that race. He has improved and, while he is not in the [July 14 G1] Grand Prix de Paris, in the light of this performance it would be the logical next step so we will most definitely consider supplementing.”

Simca Mille is the first foal out of Swertia (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), a daughter of The Aga Khan's Sanjida (Ire) (Polish Precedent) who was black-type-placed on six occasions including when third in the G3 Prix Penelope and G3 Prix Cleopatre. She is in turn kin to three black-type winners headed by Sarafina (Fr) (Refuse To Bend {Ire}), who captured this card's feature Prix de Diane in 2010 having won the G1 Prix Saint-Alary and was later crowned European champion 3-year-old filly. She went on to produce the G3 Prix d'Aumale scorer Savarin (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and her G3 Prix Messidor-winning full-brother Geniale (Jpn). Sarafina's half-sister Sanaya (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}) was second in the Saint-Alary, while this is also the family of Sumayr (Ire) (Ela-Mana-Mou {Ire}) who captured the Grand Prix de Paris in its old guise as a 15-furlong contest in 1985. Swertia has the unraced 2-year-old filly Sadia (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and a yearling filly by Invincible Spirit (Ire).

Outstrip’s Nadette Annexes ParisLongchamp’s Listed Prix Finlande

Team Valor International and Marco Saviozzi's 3-year-old filly Nadette (Fr) (Outstrip {GB}–Ciboulette {Ire}, by Pivotal {GB}) was two places behind subsequent G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) when fifth going one mile at ParisLongchamp in last month's G3 Prix de la Grotte and stepped forward to collect a career high in Thursday's Listed Prix Finlande upped to nine furlongs back at the Bois de Boulogne venue. The 32-5 chance, who also ran fifth in last term's G3 Prix des Reservoirs at Deauville, found a smooth rhythm off the pace in sixth after the initial exchanges. Rowed along in early straight with 500 metres remaining, she quickened smartly for control entering the final furlong and was not for catching under mild urging in the closing stages, keeping on strongly to easily hold Bahasa (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) by 1 1/2 lengths. The hitherto undefeated Yukata (Ire) (Galileo {Ire} was a head away in third, a short head in front of 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in fourth.

“She ran a good race in the [G3] Prix de la Grotte and that is good form as we saw this last Sunday in the [G1 Poule d'Essai des] Pouliches,” said winning trainer Romain Le Dren Doleuze. “I was confident beforehand as I knew that she would love the extra furlong and the faster ground. She has an entry for next month's [G1] Prix de Diane and I have an idea as to what we should do next, but I will talk with the owners before revealing any future plans.”

Nadette is the second of four foals and lone scorer produced by a multiple-winning half-sister to Listed Lure S. victor Kencumin (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}). Her second dam Cumin (Fusaichi Pegasus), herself a full-sister to dual Grade III placegetter Obsequious, ran third in the G3 Prestige S. and is a granddaughter of MG1SW European Horse of the Year User Friendly (GB) (Slip Anchor {GB}). The April-foaled bay is kin to a 2-year-old colt by Kendargent (Fr) and a yearling filly by Al Wukair (Ire).
