I first voted for the Eclipse Awards in 2006, and this year will mark the 18th straight year I’ve voted in the year-end awards for Thoroughbreds in North America. There are no set guidelines or standings that voters must use to vote for Eclipse Award winners, so you’ll see some very surprising votes cast in some divisions and occasionally an extremely controversial award winner.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Winner White Abarrio Top-Rated Dirt Horse in Longines Rankings
White Abarrio improved his rating from a 122 to a 123 in the ninth edition of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2023, and the 4-year-old Race Day colt is currently rated as the top dirt horse in the rankings after a win in the $6 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 4 at Santa Anita Park.
