As the oldest of the three Triple Crown races, the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets has seen its fair share of upsets, and the majority of those have come in roughly the last third of the race’s 156-year history. During the post-World War II era, 20 horses have come into the Belmont Stakes with wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, only to have their bids for immortality denied (this includes I’ll Have Another in 2012, who was scratched the day before the Belmont with an injury).

1935 Triple Crown Winner Omaha: The Belair Bullet

He stands alone in the annals of Thoroughbred racing, the only Triple Crown winner sired by a Triple Crown winner. Omaha had big shoes to fill when he was foaled at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky. on March 24, 1932. His daddy was 1930 Triple Crown winner Gallant Fox who scored nine victories in 10 races and had become the greatest money winner in the history of American racing.
