Fairmount Park To Be Renamed FanDuel Sportsbook And Horseracing Through New Partnership

Fairmount Park in Collinsville, Ill., will soon have a new name through its partnership with the sports betting giant FanDuel. The 95-year-old racetrack just east of St. Louis, Mo., will be known as FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing.

In an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, FanDuel Group CEO Matt King outlined plans for a sportsbook at the racetrack, but added “We're investing broadly to revitalize the track itself.” The Post-Dispatch reports plans for the track to bring back the St. Louis Derby – last run in 2006 – and fund it with a $250,000 purse.

The sportsbook could open as early as late January 2021.

The Illinois Racing Board has approved 53 days of live racing at Fairmount Park in 2021, with a meet extending from April 27-Sept. 6

Fairmount Park is also in the process of getting a casino license made possible through a gaming bill passed by the Illinois legislature in 2019. The track has been owned since 2000 by William Stiritz and Associates.

FanDuel and the horseracing network and advance deposit wagering company TVG are related through their common ownership by Flutter Entertainment.

Albuquerque Outrider Handed Five Year Suspension After ‘Abusive Behavior’ Caught On Video

New Mexico stewards have suspended all state licenses to outrider Roger Franklin Cadwallader for five years for what their final ruling describes as “abusive behavior towards a horse.”

According to the ruling, Cadwallader was captured on video at the Downs of Albuquerque Racetrack during morning workouts on Aug. 20. During a track break, Cadwallader was shown hitting a horse multiple times with his hands and reins. He was also recorded kicking the horse in its legs several times.

“The horse in the video was clearly in distress and tried to lie down multiple times,” the ruling read.

Cadwallader was on summary suspension at the time of his hearing and the ruling on Nov. 11. The suspension runs from Aug. 28, 2020 to Aug. 27, 2025.

According to steward Ron Walker, the horse was returned to its owner after the incident but had no further information on its condition.

Cadwallader has ten days from the date of the ruling to file an appeal.

24 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Linked To Golden Gate Stables Since Oct. 30; Racing Cancelled Through Nov. 20

With the utmost regard for the safety and well-being of 1/ST RACING employees, those working on the backstretch and the community at large, and in following the best guidance from local health authorities, Golden Gate Fields in Northern California will temporarily pause live racing effective noon Friday, Nov. 13 through to Nov. 20.

Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Golden Gate Fields has implemented stringent health and safety measures including strict social distancing and masking policies and regular COVID-19 testing with isolation requirements for any positive cases or identified close contacts.

Since Oct. 30, there have been 24 confirmed cases linked to the Berkeley stable area. All positive cases are overseen by the Berkeley Public Health Division (BPHD) through their case managers, are required to isolate as per BPHD protocols and are not able to return to Golden Gate Fields until health clearance has been provided by BPHD.

During the period of temporary closure, track facilities will undergo thorough cleaning and track-wide COVID-19 testing will be performed for all employees and backstretch workers in the stable area. Upon completion of testing all data will be shared with the BPHD.

The 1,300 horses stabled onsite will continue to receive the daily care and exercise they require.

Golden Gate Fields will continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with the BPHD and will look forward to resuming live racing as soon as possible.

California horsemen were notified by the Santa Anita racing office that anyone from Golden Gate will be required to provide a negative COVID test before gaining access to the grounds at Santa Anita or San Luis Rey Downs training center. Officials at Del Mar, which races through Nov. 29, were not immediately available for comment.
