‘It’s A Reality Now’: Arlington Issues Layoff Notices To Employees

Arlington Park employees received formal notice over the weekend that they will be laid off at the end of the race meet, reports the Chicago Daily Herald. The Arlington Heights, Ill. track was listed for sale by parent company Churchill Downs earlier this year, which the layoff notice indicates “will result in the closure of Arlington International Racecourse.”

Layoffs are expected to begin on Sept. 25, the final day of racing.

Churchill has been evaluating offers for Arlington Park's 326-acre property since June 16, but Nick Micaletti, business agent for Teamsters Local 727, doesn't expect CDI will sell to horse racing interests.

“It's a reality now, whereas before it was, well, hopefully somebody comes in and buys it and does the right things and helps Illinois horse racing,” Micaletti told the Daily Herald.

TOBA National Awards To Be Held At Hill ‘n’ Dale At Xalapa On Sept. 11; Gladys Knight To Perform

The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association has announced that the 36th annual TOBA National Awards will be held at Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa in Paris, Ky., on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Hosted by Gabby Gaudet, the evening will include a special live performance by Motown legend Gladys Knight.

The TOBA National Awards honor breeders from 19 states and Canada. Also recognized are the National Owner of the Year and National Owner Finalists, National Breeder of the Year, Small Breeder of the Year, National Broodmare of the Year, Racing Partnership of the Year, Rood & Riddle Sport Horse of the Year, Claiming Crown Horse of the Year, Industry Service Award and recipient of the Robert N. Clay Award.

Woodbine: Capacity-Limited Queen’s Plate Tickets Go On Sale This Week

Woodbine Entertainment today announced tickets for The 162nd Queen's Plate, the first jewel of the 2021 OLG Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, will be available through a pre-sale on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, and will go on-sale to the general public on Friday, July 30, 2021.

The 162^nd running of The Queen's Plate will take place on Sunday, August 22 at Woodbine Racetrack. A fashion-forward day at the races, The Queen's Plate festivities include live entertainment, unique dining experiences and world-class horse racing.

Contested for a purse of $1 million, The Queen's Plate is North America's oldest continuously-run stakes event, showcasing Canada's top 3-year-old Thoroughbreds.

Annually one of Toronto's must-attend events of the summer, the 2021 Queen's Plate will focus on an enhanced experience for the limited guests who are welcomed to Woodbine Racetrack.

OLG Returns As Title Sponsor Of Canadian Triple Crown

The 86^th running of the $400,0000 Prince of Wales Stakes is set for Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The second leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is performed on dirt surface at Fort Erie Race Track in Fort Erie.
