Six Share Bullet at Texas Breeze Show

Six juveniles shared the fastest furlong time of :10 1/5 during the breeze show ahead of the Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale held Monday at Lone Star Park. Four of the group were consigned by Pike Racing: hip 2, a filly by Daredevil; hip 28, a colt by Street Boss; hip 36, a filly by Outwork; and hip 42, a colt by Aurelius Maximus.

Also sharing Monday's bullet: hip 49, a filly by Cinco Charlie consigned by Asmussen Horse Center; and hip 77, a filly by Cutting Humor consigned by Bryan Ford Training Stable.

“Overall, it was a great breeze show,” said TTA Sales Director Foster Bridewell. “We had a head wind all day and the horses handled it well. We had six tie for the fastest breeze of the day and many others stopped the clock in 10 2/5 and 10 3/5. I think the track was consistent all day and that's a credit to the track team at Lone Star Park. Thank you to the team at Lone Star and to our consignors and owners for bringing a good group of horses to our sale.”

The breeze results and videos are available online at TTAsales.com. The Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale will be held Wednesday at Lone Star Park. Bidding begins at 10 a.m. CT.

Record-Sized Catalogue Available for Texas 2YO Sale

A catalogue featuring 186 horses has been released for the 2023 Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, the highest number cataloged for a 2-year-old sale in Texas Thoroughbred Association (TTA) sales history. The sale will be held Apr. 5 at Lone Star Park with a breeze show scheduled for Apr. 3.

Last year's edition of the sale was topped by Free Drop Maddy (Free Drop Billy), who was consigned by Carl Deville and brought $200,000 from Mansfield Racing. The now-sophomore has since won four black-type events, including the Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity at Lone Star and the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie S. at Fair Grounds.

“This is an impressive catalog for our 2023 2-year-old sale,” TTA Sales Director Foster Bridewell said. “It's deep, it's full of pedigree and stallion power, and we're proud to offer the depth and quality come April that hasn't been seen around here in a decade.”

Bridewell continued: “The commitment of our consignors, breeders, and owners to bring such quality athletes and pedigrees to our sale is unmatched.”

The catalogue is highlighted by a number of leading sires, including Bernardini, Bolt d'Oro, City of Light, Classic Empire, Good Magic, Justify, Kantharos, Malibu Moon, Midshipman, Munnings, and Practical Joke, as well as a number of first-crop stallions. Regional stallions are also represented, including leading Texas stallion Bradester and Louisiana's El Deal.

Paper catalogs will be available shortly. Visit ttasales.com to view the interactive catalogue, a full downloadable catalogue, and expected supplements.

Texas 2-Year-Old Sale Set for Apr. 5

The Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale will be held Apr. 5 next year at Lone Star Park, while the auction's breeze show will be held Apr. 3.

“We've already had a lot of interest in our 2023 sale season,” Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Director Foster Bridewell said. “Our 2-year-old sale has certainly gotten stronger in terms of quality in the past few years and those horses have been performing well at tracks around the midwest and south.”

Free Drop Maddy (Free Drop Billy), who topped this year's sale after a final bid of $200,000, broke her maiden in the $150,000 Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity and, most recently, captured the Donovan L. Ferguson Memorial S. at the Fair Grounds for Mansfield Racing and Bret Calhoun.

“Our graduates are proof of the quality our consignors have offered each year,” Bridewell said. “We're excited to get to work on putting together another solid edition in April.”

The entry deadline for the Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale is Jan. 16 and consignment forms are now available at www.ttasales.com.
