Epsom Gallops Morning For Eydon

Listed winner Eydon (Ire) (Olden Times {GB}) will go to Epsom to test his aptitude for the course during the Cazoo Derby Gallops Morning on May 23, Prince Faisal's racing manager Ted Voute revealed. Depending on his results, that will see the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas fourth take his chances in the G1 Cazoo Derby on June 4. Alternatively, he will be re-routed to the G1 Prix du Jockey Club in France one day later.

Voute said, “He'll go on Monday to Epsom and have a little piece of work down the hill and around the turn and into the straight.

“We'll see how he handles the bend and the camber and then the Prince will have a think about what he wants to do after seeing how balanced he is.”

Voute also had an update on Prince Faisal's globetrotting multiple Group 1 winner Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}), and he is targeting the G1 Prince Of Wales's S. at Royal Ascot. Successful in the G1 Juddmonte International S. in August of 2021, the 2020 Prix du Jockey Club hero was fourth in the G1 QIPCO British Champion S. in the autumn. Defending his Saudi Cup title, the 5-year-old entire faded to last of 14 in Riyadh on Feb. 26.

“I said to the Prince the other day that he'd already won the French Derby and he said 'oh well, I don't mind winning it twice,'” Voute added. “Ascot is where we're heading [with Mishriff]. We're just waiting to see whether we'll be ready for then, but it's pretty much the same agenda as last year and we'll just take it one race at a time.

“I'm not sure I really want to take on Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), but if we're going to be a champion then we've got to.”

Also heading to the Cazoo Derby Gallops Morning on Monday are Eydon's fellow Derby contenders Westover (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and West Wind Blows (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) as well as Oaks entrant Emily Upjohn (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}).

Eydon Camp Mulls 2000 Guineas Option

The Listed bet365 Feilden S. hero Eydon (Ire) (Olden Times {GB}), emerged from his win in good order and is still under consideration for the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas, owner Prince Faisal's racing advisor Ted Voute revealed on Wednesday. Although the Roger Varian trainee has been left in the entries for that Newmarket Classic, his long-term target remains the G1 Cazoo Derby at Epsom on June 4.

“I went to see him on Monday and he looked magnificent, so I relayed that information to the Prince, who is still in Saudi Arabia and after discussions with Roger as well, we have left him in the Guineas for the time being to keep all the options open,” said Voute.

“The Prince has said the best trial for the Derby is the Guineas, so that is definitely on our mind, but it's just the timing from the Feilden to the Guineas is the shortest of all the options we have, so that's really why we're sitting and deliberating.

“Going down to Newmarket myself and having a look at him was one of the pieces of the puzzle, which I fed back into the system and as a result we've left him in. Sometimes you're forced to make decisions before you want to make them, but by leaving him in the race it buys us a week.”

He added: “Obviously, we've got the likes of Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and some very good horses to face up to, but you don't become the best unless you race against them and the Prince has never been shy, he likes to race them at the top table if they are good enough.

“He's 25-1 for the Guineas and I wonder if he was by Frankel (GB) out of an Olden Times mare he would be shorter in the betting, but he's by Olden Times out of a Frankel mare so he's 25s.

“He won the Feilden very nicely and he could be anything, but we've not ruled anything out and he was put in the [G2] Dante [S.] and all the right races in both England and France.”

Mishriff to Skip DWC Meeting and Return in Eclipse

Prince Faisal's globetrotting multiple Group 1 winner Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) has recovered in good order from a last-placed finish in the $20-million G1 Saudi Cup near the end of February, but will not defend his G1 Dubai Sheema Classic title on Mar. 26. The John and Thady Gosden trainee will instead wait until the G1 Coral-Eclipse S. in July. Also, a winner of the G1 Juddmonte International S. at York in August, the 5-year-old entire was fourth in the G1 QIPCO Champion S. on Oct. 16.

Ted Voute, Racing Manager for Prince Faisal, said, “I saw John Gosden at Wednesday at Kempton and he said he was sound and great and he hadn't done any veterinary check-ups yet. He was on Warren Hill and everything appeared fine.

“He definitely wasn't himself in the Saudi Cup. Basically, most of last year, every time he ran in a Group 1 we did a medical check-up afterwards. He is valuable and he is pretty well insured, so we made that a standard practice. I think we are waiting to see if that throws any light on it.

“Looking at it, I think it was multi-factorial. He didn't break as well as last year and David had to fight with him a little bit. Every time you do that he hangs his head on the side slightly and says, 'Oh, I'm not sure I like this'. The track was a little bit deeper and he got some dirt in his face, and he wasn't used to that particularly. I don't think any one of those things beat him, but maybe a combination of all of them might have done.

“I can't pinpoint anything apart from what everybody else can see at this moment. I'm sure John will say something when he has run the tests.”

Voute added, “John did say he is not in any rush. We will try to follow the same plan as last year, so that would be the Eclipse next. We definitely won't go to Dubai. I say that, but last year we said we wouldn't go, then all of a sudden we went to the Sheema Classic.”

New Look For Buyanom In Its Third Year

As it heads into his third year of existence, the stallion nomination trading website Buyanom.com has a new look, and a few new perks for its users. Ahead of the 2022 breeding season, the Buyanom website has been redone, and now includes the capability for its users to sign contracts online. “It's very user- friendly and very quick,” said Luke Lillingston, who operates Buyanom alongside fellow respected horseman Ted Voute. “We're very pleased with the way the website is working.”

Another new aspect of the site designed to improve the experience for the seller is a function that allows them to set a price threshold, below which offers made will not be shown. “That's a new aspect of the site that's designed very specifically to help sellers,” Lillingston explained.

Buyanom has also removed the listing fee for sellers; the only cost to sell a nomination on the platform is a £150 fee that is charged when a contract is signed. If the breeding does not result in a live foal, the seller gets their fee back. There are no fees for buyers.

“What we're trying to achieve is for more people to get on the site–to look, to list, to make offers and to buy nominations,” Lillingston said. “We want to make it as easy as we can for everybody.”

There are currently 32 individual sires from England, Ireland and France with nominations available on Buyanom.com, including proven sires like Acclamation (GB), Invincible Spirit (Ire), Kodiac (GB), Le Havre (Ire), Profitable (Ire) and Territories (Ire), and in the region of 50 total nominations available.

“Even in the last week, we've had some very significant breeders buying, selling and making offers on nominations,” Lillingston said. “Once people get on the site and they use it they're saying, 'wow, I can't believe it's that easy to use.' Once you get into it and have confidence in the system it becomes very easy. We're just trying to encourage more people to use it.”

Lillingston stressed that Charlie Dee, his assistant at Lillingston Bloodstock, is available to help anyone with questions about using Buyanom. He said he thinks platforms like Buyanom are not only the way of the future, but a way to source value.

“It's the way most of us conduct business in our daily lives, buying things online, and we believe nominations should be no different,” Lillingston said. “Equally, for anyone looking for value–anyone who has listed a nomination is obviously a seller, so they're always keen to receive offers.”
