Justify Filly Romps On Ellis Unveiling

Away in good order from a middle gate, the $150,000 Keeneland September yearling took up a pace-pressing role to the outside, eased to the front with a furlong and a half to race and–despite a few swishes of her tail–pulled away to score by five emphatic lengths to become the fifth winner for her freshman sire (by Scat Daddy). A Z Warrior, the first-ever 'TDN Rising Star' for her sire, won the 2010 GI Frizette S. and was sold on for $1.25 million at Fasig-Tipton November in 2011. Ribchester’s Ruthin Prevails in the Limestone

Ruthin (GB) (Ribchester {Ire}) led home a 'TDN Rising Star' 1-3 finish in Friday's co-featured TVG Limestone S. at Keeneland, as she turned away a bid from her pace-pressing and favored stablemate, fellow 'Rising Star' Her World (Ire) (Caravaggio) and held off a late dive from Derrynane (Quality Road) for a narrow victory.

So quickly into stride that jockey John Velazquez reported post-race that he surged back in the irons, Ruthin, a six-length graduate in a course-and-distance maiden 51 weeks ago to become the first winner for her sire, cut out the running, but was kept in about the four path through an opening couple of furlongs in :22.59. Fractionally closer to the fence as they raced around the turn, Ruthin held the advantage, but there was plenty of room at the inside for stablemate Her World–herself a debut victress against the boys in the Tyro S. at Monmouth last August–if good enough when push came to shove. Try as she might, the gray filly just could not bridge the gap and the wire came in the nick of time for Ruthin. Derrynane, a late-running fourth to Stonestreet's Twilight Gleaming (Ire) (National Defense {GB}) in last year's GII Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, switched off at the back, was produced in upper stretch and attacked the line hard to just miss.

Seventh of 27 as the 3-1 favorite in last year's Listed Windsor Castle S. at Royal Ascot, Ruthin could return to that meeting, pending a dinner discussion with Barbara Banke, trainer Wesley Ward said.

The second stakes scorer for her G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and G1 Queen Anne-winning sire (by Iffraaj {GB}), Ruthin was the most expensive of the Darley stallion's first-crop yearlings when hammering to Ben McElroy on behalf of Stonestreet for 350,000gns at Tattersalls October in 2020. The dual stakes-winning Selinka is also the dam of a yearling colt by G2 Richmond S. hero Land Force (Ire) (No Nay Never).

Frankel’s TDN Rising Star Raclette Doubles Up in Style at Chantilly

Juddmonte's 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) backed up an Aug. 8 debut triumph with a command performance upped to one mile at Chantilly.

RACLETTE (GB) (f, 2, Frankel {GB}–Emollient {MGISW-US, $1,350,400}, by Empire Maker), who earned 'TDN Rising Star' status with a taking display in a winner-producing debutantes' test over 7 1/2 furlongs at Deauville last month, was swiftly into stride and settled third behind a steady tempo through halfway. Making smooth headway in the straight, the even-money chalk cruised to the front with 300 metres remaining and powered clear in impressive style to easily outpoint Welwal (GB) (Shalaa {Ire}) (Shalaa {Ire}) by a geared-down four lengths. “She's a very nice filly and we used this race as a test,” explained Andre Fabre. “She won very well and, all being well, will now go for the [Oct. 3 G1] Prix Marcel Boussac [at ParisLongchamp].” Raclette is the fourth of five foals and one of three scorers produced by four-time Grade I heroine Emollient (Empire Maker), herself a half-sister to GI Belmont S. and GI Florida Derby placegetter Hofburg (Tapit) and GII Hall of Fame S. third Courtier (Pioneerof the Nile). Zoffany Filly Earns TDN Rising Star Tag at Deauville

Carrying Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani's second strip for Tuesday's Prix Le Cyrano at Deauville, 2-year-old filly Osmose (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) was very much the lead violin coming home and powered to 'TDN Rising Stardom' with a taking performance in the 6 1/2-furlong debutantes' heat. The well-backed 2-1 favourite was sharply into stride and stalked the pace in third through halfway. Looming large full of run passing the quarter-mile marker, she seized control with 300 metres remaining and powered clear in hand inside the final furlong to easily outpoint Enfant Rouge (Fr) (Bated Breath {GB}) by a geared-down two lengths.

“She broke alertly and was a bit keen in the early strides, but I was able to get some cover and she relaxed beautifully,” said winning rider Cristian Demuro. “She quickened nicely when I took her out with 2 1/2 furlongs to go and, when she found her best stride, she was very impressive.  She needs more experience, but will get that with racing and she should stay the one-mile trip easily.”

Osmose is the second of four foals and first winner produced by an unraced half-sister to MGISW dual US champion Unique Bella (Tapit), whose three elite-level victories came in the GI La Brea S., GI Clement L. Hirsch S. and GI Beholder Mile. The March-foaled homebred bay's second dam is GI Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic heroine Unrivaled Belle (Unbridled's Song), herself a daughter of GII Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup H. and GII Princess S. victrix Queenie Belle (Bertrando). Osmose is half to a yearling filly by Showcasing (GB) and a weanling colt by Wootton Bassett (GB).
